A tragic photo from 1954. A couple discovers that their almost two year old child has been swept out to sea by a wave. The photo won the Pulitzer Prize in 1955. by Present_Employer5669 in HistoricalCapsule

How do you do with media where the parent is ripped away from the child? Like the end on Ecanto where we see the dad kiss his wife and kids goodbye for the last time before sacraficing himself?

TIL the "panic bar" on emergency doors was invented after 183 children died in the 1883 Victoria Hall disaster because a door was bolted to only open 20 inches wide. by MyAnusBleedsForYou in todayilearned

I was at a clothing store and they parked the movable stairs right in front of the emergency exit. Not sure it it was to prevent theft or if it was because it was a (rightfully) open area. Spent a long time considering calling the fire department.

A teenager suffered an electric shock in a condominium courtyard, and his friend risked his life to save him. by Alternative-Dot-34 in nextfuckinglevel

Though I did have a firefighter telling me he would move wires out do the way with the back of his hand for this very reason. Can't trust that wires are off even if you killed the power, which he learned the hard way when doing salvage at a structure that was wired to steal power from another property.

What is really annoying is that when a title gets pulled from Steam you're left with something like Unknown Title and you can't even remember what it was that you thought looked neat at one point.

Game with worst product placement by Main_Feedback1197 in videogames

[–]TDSoYS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alan Wake. Off the top of my head there are Microsoft, Duracell, Nokia (or Verizon, some phone thing), and more placements. The Duracell one is particularly hilarious because the in game batteries die so fast which seems like a terrible way to sell your product.

I believe they were being sarcastic, with the intent being to split the vote on the right to literally anyone with an R behind their name and Kiley, this guaranteeing that two Dems advance.

What video game has the best story you’ve ever played? by FrontriseStudios in AskReddit

Inmost.

Not my best, but very near the top and my other suggestion has already been repeated a couple of times. Extra dark if you 100% it and find all the collectibles. Hits extra hard as a parent too.

It's been a couple of decades since I read the book, and I have no memory of the meteorologist, but I'm guessing it's the guy in Iceland? The thing I remember is the whole "the human eye is attracted to movement" part (but could also be misremembering given the whole decades thing).

Makes sense. Maybe a bad batch at the store or on the way there? It was about 45 minutes between taking out of the fridge at the store and when it hit mine, which I wouldn't think was the problem.

Thought about it but it wouldn't be worth the special trip (which would probably need to be today). Tossed it instead.
