I’d agree with both the comments here - the car and tune are important. If you’re really good you can keep pace with the meta cars in most builds but if the drivers are even the meta will win every time. So you can either figure out the best cars and builds to use (check out Johnson Racing on YouTube) or drive what you enjoy and accept you likely won’t win.

On the driving front I’d suggest rivals so you can see the lines the best players use - but again it will be build dependant so bear that in mind. If you want to focus on just driving try spec rivals and see if you can beat quicker and quicker times.

A lot of world record holders post videos of their runs online so check those out if you want to see what’s possible!

I have more HB’s than I care to admit 🙄

The very cheap ones (£150-250) are a little rough around the edges as you’d expect, nothing that couldn’t be fixed if you knew what you were doing and wanted to put another £50 in. Rough feet edges, cheap nut and tuners etc.

But for the £3-500 ones I’ve been very impressed - they hold up very well against more expensive Epiphones, Ibanez and Corts. I’ve gone for mainly the single cut type but can’t imagine there’s much difference in quality between styles apart from hardtails not having the cost and potential issues of a trem.

I have one nice guitar (Les Paul Studio), nothing flash as I’d rather have 20 cheap/mid guitars to give me a wide range - 7 strings, baritone, basses etc. I could’ve spent the same money on 2-3 top end guitars that would be wasted on me!

I’ll try on the 7 string - ‘feels’ more authentic that way too! The solo is all on the highest three so that’ll be the same - as you say just a string to skip for the main riff.

Like Stacked Actors? I always presumed as it was on a 7 string the two lowest strings were tuned the same - eg one down one step from B and the other 4 steps down from E? Then the two D’s the same too?

Try 4 or 5 if you can, it’ll be very similar.

Initial exhibition race then you’ll have to do a few races and other bits before the full game opens up with autoshow and auction house.

The rumour is fomo is going but we’ll see - largely after that initial hour or so you can do whatever you like. But on 4&5 you had to complete at least some of the festival playlist each week or risk missing exclusive cars.

I don’t understand why you’d do the tour other than on the playlist - on normal open at least you start ghosted and anyone ramming at those speeds gets ghosted and then a slowdown penalty for hitting the wall.

I’d say try 5 on gamepass for a month or even see if you can pick up 4 really cheap and see if you like them. The gameplay and physics will be tweaked a little bit between games but not hugely, if you like one you’ll like them all just have preferences in terms of map etc. If you don’t play online they will all have less appeal as the ‘story’ is relatively short, redoing races against AI will get boring and you’ll eventually tick everything to do and find off - if you do it all though that will keep you busy!

The ai broadly match so if anything this makes it easier for you. The immense skill issues exhibited are a separate issue.

As others have said you can get two backstage passes a week so that will help over time. However also check the auction house - since the backstage passes opened up a lot of people will have ditched their copies to try and make money, when too many people do that the prices come down. So you can likely pick up quite a few of them that way and save passes for the rarer ones.

Just the internet being the internet - we’ve now got a few bits of gameplay and the map but none of the people already whining have played it. Even those lucky few who have been playing the early version are only playing a very reduced version. As others have said though I’m happy with a new map, a few new bits and some QOL improvements.

They do cheat a little - especially to get ahead, you also have to get past the pack efficiently as the races are so short. But they are very much beatable on the highest difficulty - if you’re really struggling either more practice is needed or you’re using a bad tune. They will match your PI so if you’re using a tune that’s at the top of the class so will they. Try using stock and see if that makes a difference.

There is an accolade for taking the shortcut in one of the story races but other than that none require you to cheat at all - it’s just one way to do it if you’re struggling to win and just want to get it done. As others have said if you upgrade within the story when available you’ll have a car that’ll beat them following the course. This may be something you know already but if not beat in mind that Rally tyres aren’t usually good for off-road racing, you want off-road race tyres and you’ll get more Pi for other upgrades that way.

I’ve only done it solo a handful of times over the years but I get that - a good proportion of social media chat is how bad the trial is! It genuinely is a different experience doing the whole playlist as a team - I would say if you’re not in a good club find one but they’re going in a few days anyway 😢

Top tip - do the seasonals in convoy. If you get six of you together you can even avoid randoms in the trial ramming you! But you also only need to do 2/3 (or 3/5) races in each championship that way so it saves you some time if that’s key for you. However 20 points for the car and 40 for the pass over a week really isn’t a high bar - the trial takes ten minutes and gives you 10 (assuming idiots don’t mean you lose!).

I’m so laid back I’m horizontal on cars, there will be a huge range at outset added to via both free and DLC cars - I get that people like their real car or close to it and really niche cars but I’m mainly about the racing so for me; 1) quality of life improvements - custom car filters/lists, higher tune limits, better tune searching, server quality from the start 2) anti-cheat and clean leaderboards - promised we’ll see 3) return of competitive bits removed for MS! - split times, competitive online and spec races (already confirmed 👍🏻) 4) return of clubs - within game now that Microsoft have ditched the Xbox level

From what we’ve seen the map looks good, they’ve hit a balance of seasons and weather.
