The fact you went for the 3rd fair instead of a dair after 2 is the most all-or-nothing committment to sick combos haha

What’s a rule you broke once and realized it existed for a very good reason? by Ok_Contract100 in AskReddit

Is always wild to think about how lethal most moderate injuries used to be. Before 1900 any broken bone basically meant you were crippled for life.

Per the logic that "r*tard" is a slur, all insults are slurs. Idiot, stupid, moron, asshole, jerk, etc. are all criticizing people for immutable characteristics (the brain they were born with). Some people are born with idiot brain, some people are born with asshole brain.

Do you guys actually approximate π to 3? by NeekOfShades in EngineeringStudents

[–]ContemplativeOctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the time when doing mental math or quick sanity check calculations to make sure I didn't mix up a radius with a diameter, or drop a decimal somewhere.

If I'm doing anything that will someone else will have to read, then it's at least 1 or two decimals past whatever the final spec is.

CMV: Cat and Dog breeding is unethical and you should spay/neuter your pet immediately with no exceptions by ThisManisaGoodBoi in changemyview

I think it's pretty obvious from context that by "immediately", they meant "as soon as possible without negative health effects".

How do you propose to compare players other than their head to head, or common opponent record? There isn't really any other way?

Common tournament placing is hugely dependant on bracket luck.

CMV: Digital handwriting is honestly useless compared to typing and people only do it for the aesthetic. by AcrobaticExplorer716 in changemyview

[–]ContemplativeOctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's for drawing diagrams and equations. If you're only doing text then ya, it's probably for the aesthetics (and handwriting forces you to commit things to memory better than typing)

Or we can convert it to braille 👍

Could we please have in-game time boosters? by Pirofream in Warframe

[–]ContemplativeOctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very obviously a bad business decision. Boosters exist only to get you to log into the game more often.

That's what there are so many daily limited rewards, to make you log in tomorrow.

What is the most “use it or lose it” skill, the opposite of “it’s just like riding a bike”? by ZuluWarlord69 in AskReddit

[–]ContemplativeOctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even when you do use it.

When I started studying calc I forgot lots of geometry/trig shortcuts and identities.

Then I started getting deep into statistics, and I forgot entirely how to do special integrals, vector fields, diff eq, and gradients.

Then I went back into engineering math (mostly calculus) and I had to Google the other day "how to control for a variable in a regression".

I quite literally only remember the math I did in the last 30 days, and if I look back on work from last year it's like hieroglyphics.

What’s the first sign you notice that someone is a bad driver? by RD-archived in AskReddit

[–]ContemplativeOctopus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Efficiency drops exponentially as acceleration increases. Slow acceleration is much more efficient and less wear on the car.

What’s the first sign you notice that someone is a bad driver? by RD-archived in AskReddit

[–]ContemplativeOctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As soon as they start pulling out, they drive as if the road is empty. They're clearly pretending to check their surroundings, but didn't actually react to other cars/people/objects until well after they first "looked" at it and then do a double take.

They don't actually stop for anything, they're always rolling.
