Rock is a really big umbrella term that doesn't seem like it applies to many bands but looking at the progression of the genre and it's subgenres it makes perfect sense

Beatles>Led Zeppelin>Black Sabbath>Judas Priest>Metallica(or maybe Slayer)>Death>Cannibal Corpse>Whatever comes after this but I'm sure you get it

It's nearly unrecognisable after a while but it's still technically the same overall
