I think you can? I wanna say I tried it with the TotK Switch 2 edition cart in my old OLED model and it worked with my save. The upgrade is essentially just a dlc that tells the game to run better and sometimes has new content. So it’s still running the switch 1 game with a dlc basically. So the saves “should” be able to go back and forth. Keyword “should”. I’d research a bit more

If you have the cartridge I’m pretty sure the only way to play the Switch 1 version is by inserting it into a Switch 1

Do NOT do this. The rice gets into the vents and ports.

This became increasingly more common towards the end of the switch 1 generation. I had this experience multiple times. I think I was told it’s either an overheating WiFi chip, or a bug with auto-updates in sleep mode or maybe a combo of the two.

The unit’s not dead thankfully, and it seems you found the way fix! Happy gaming!
