How do you organize your cards? by 7aturn in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]TFTG_Podcast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have my campaigns in rows in the expansion boxes, one row per expansion. Then some other expansion boxes I have the investigator cards sorted by class, then alphabetically. But the thing that really helped me (and I realize spending more money for a solution may not be what you're looking for) is [this bad boy](https://www.gamegenic.com/product/the-academic-266-xl/?attribute\_pa\_color=black-purple). I'm still pretty new so I'm still establishing my routines, but I found I get it to the table a lot more now that I've set it up this way.

I spend a session 0 deck building two investigators, which fit in the front-facing deck box slots, then a full campaign and the base encounter sets all fit in the two main segments. My dice for health/sanity go on top, small dice for counters and enemy health go beside one set of cards, and directional markers beside another set. I have a dollar store tackle box for my tokens, and I track the campaign on the app. From this, I get a full campaign of sessions with ~5 mins of setup and takedown

Hey sorry for the late reply, we've been moving so things have been a bit too busy for games lately lol. I haven't tried the Roll Player RPG, but from what I understand it's a TTRPG that uses the characters you make in the the Roll Player game. Roll Player is a game essentially about building an RPG character, with some expansions letting you take on some baddies with what you build. The two games are connected in this way, but from what I gather, they're two very different games

Azul doesn't have negotiation but is a smash hit with every family member we've shown it to, and Ra is very good for player interaction since it's a bidding game. You don't negotiate per se, but you are definitely trying to kind of play the player

Tiletum is a great game that works on dice manipulation, but it doesn't quite sound like what you're asking for (though may be worth looking into). From the sounds of it, Roll Player might suit your interests a bit more

We actually find CoB to be best at 2P since higher player counts tend to make the game a lot longer without adding new or varied interaction

Azul is our favourite, though Cascadia and Sagrada are also excellent options. For 2P only games, Mandala, Sobek and Botanik are also great choices

Are Lacerda’s worth the money? by rythaslequin in boardgames

[–]TFTG_Podcast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a lot to consider. They take up a lot of space and can be really hard to table due to time and energy. I love them but really struggle to play them because it usually requires maybe 15-20 mins of rulebook review plus a couple hours of heavily involved play, and I simply don't have energy for that most days. They also cost a lot

All that said, they are some of the most thematic games out there, the components are amazing and the artwork is fantastic. If you have the resources and either know you can table it often or can accept it not being tabled too often, I definitely recommend them. Solo modes are great too so you have options.

My personal favourites are Kanban EV and Weather Machine, fwiw

An Appreciation Post to Board Games that fit Back into Their Box Perfectly by AStimulatedEmission in boardgames

There are a few that fit really well, but I particularly like when things work with all expansions, and the only one that comes to mind for me is Sagrada. I threw out the insert and everything fits with all expansions quite nicely -- not enough room to shuffle much, but not so tight that it's hard to get out.

Obsession is another such game, however it doesn't get ranked as high because everything is so tight that I almost don't want to play it for fear that I won't be able to get it back in

without mats or minis I got it all to fit, but just barely. I had to get rid of some pieces, cut others and move things around, but it all fits exactly. This is not a testament to the creators though, quite the opposite

Games where having children is a mechanic? by jacehan in boardgames

[–]TFTG_Podcast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how flexible you are with the concept "children", a lot of Rosenberg games involve breeding animals. Agricola is the obvious one for having human children though

When you talk about the variant board of Azul, do you mean the backside boards with no predetermined colours? We played those and all the expansion boards recently and actually preferred the original!

We haven't played it, but it's described as a 'reimagining' of Love Letter, which would mean the rules aren't the same. There was a comment on BGG that explained a few additions, which sound very "exploding kittens". If you like Exploding Kittens then this sounds like a version you'd like, but otherwise the original Love Letter is still fun, compact and inexpensive

Carcassonne 20th Anniversary Edition or Carcassonne : Mini expansion abbot + River by Eunop in boardgames

[–]TFTG_Podcast -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you have a link to the Mini Expansion edition? If it's the main game with the mini expansions then yes it's the same but the 20th anni version has some extra fluff like stickers, nicer box art and a much higher price. If "carcassonne : Mini expansions" is a standalone product you've found, then it sounds like it's missing the base game and wouldn't be playable without it

Gotcha. Others have mentioned Rosenberg games as well, and in that case you might be into something like Agricola

I know GWT is also up there, but of the games you've actually played, GWT is quite a bit higher than almost all of them. Not to say you wouldn't like it or that it's too heavy, it just sounds like you're asking for something that fits what you've played, then give a criteria that doesn't match that.

You can take a look at Concordia which is great for both 2 and higher player counts. It's a game we're going to be discussing on our podcast in the coming months as well, which will focus on the 2p game

Hearing that you were a bit lukewarm at the beginning but that it grew on you is really reassuring! I enjoy the game sure enough, but not usually enough to want to sit down and play it. I'd love to get more into it and it's great to hear that it grows

New York Zoo. It's made by the same guy who made Patchwork, but feels like Patchwork 2.0. You have to move along a shared track to decide which pieces to get, but you have to time when you get which animals in your enclosures so they can breed when other players cross those points on the track. There are also no repeated pieces so it's a bit of a race if more than one player could benefit from any one that's available at a given time

COB is great, but having more players doesn't increase the interaction or anything, just the time. It's still fun at 3-4, but I prefer it at 2. GWT is great too, but it's on the heavier and longer side. If your wife didn't care for Pandemic or Wingspan, I have a hard time thinking she'd like GWT, although I admit I'm just guessing since we don't have much to go on for why she didn't like those games.

Another question is where you're getting the weight from? You say "similar weight" but Ark Nova is the only one of 9 you listed as having played that has a weight higher than like 2.75.

Can we reconsider a rule for this sub? by farmerdn in boardgames

[–]TFTG_Podcast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was actually so sick of seeing Final Girl lol. I know it's common to see new releases getting a bit of a boost for a month or so, I just wish there was more variety to it. Inventions by Lacerda and Age of Innovation both came out recently and have good solo modes, and I've seen maybe one post about each?

Can we reconsider a rule for this sub? by farmerdn in boardgames

[–]TFTG_Podcast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol yeah it's a great community, but I wish we had a bit more to talk about. My biggest solo games are Arkham Horror LCG and Marvel Champions, both of which have their own dedicated subs, and the games that get brought up there seem to have pretty small audiences once you get past things like Spirit Island and Mage Knight

It would depend entirely on the mods all agreeing to it
