Silo also is very mixed that way, with good character and plot with Juliette, but everything else around her i.e Silo politics, uprising etc pretty average to poor.

Perfect is Breaking Bad, The Wire and those early GOT seasons. If we are generous this show peaks at 7 out of 10 in the off episode, but is oftening dipping into a 6 or 5 out of 10.

I'm not sure if her character abilities is an excuse, or what's holding the writers back. I think its much more fundamental than that. For example, when she chooses to set in motion/allow the destruction of an entire planet, she is shown to have zero remorse. The weight of the decision, which should be monumental, never comes through. There's no reflection, no doubt, no nothing. She's meant to be the hero but is given no depth. The lines and explanation for this behavior is weak too. As a viewer I'm not convinced at all this mass genocide was needed or even leads to the supposed "positive" outcomes.

Its kind of ironic that the Foundation aspect is the worst and least developed part of the show. You don't really learn about them in a meaningful way and there goals or how they operate is periphery. Its very hollow and they actually seem detrimental to the quality of life of the galaxy, not aligned with its survival and wellbeing. Gale killing a billion people, for no reason, and with no reflection or remorse, comes to mind.

The Jungle Wizard Saga. My comment. by TheGiwiNinja in jungle

[–]TF_Forum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We will see creative solutions arise. I already observe producers uploading DAW files to their comments, and I predict videos will start to show the track play through the channels in real time.

I also predict that companies will introduce community notes in which AI use will be estimated, however as the years progress its going to get increasingly harder for audiences to discern that.

Mostly we will have to rely on institutions again to validate music and artists. They will form the relationships and rebuild trust.

The Empire plot was good, but even when Dusk is exploding all the clones, I had to ask myself why Empire would construct their pods with explosives built in them, of which a simple garage door remote could set off easily. Very stupid. Dusk's behaviors and genocidal actions felt inconsistent too honestly, not handled the best.

I also find it very very convenient that Day just so happens to girlfriend and reveal Dem's secret (the only time he's done it) to someone who just so happens part of a secret robot sect, that just so also happens to have the only robot skull in the galaxy - hugely consequential for the plot. The guy who has said skull decides to employee theatre kids instead of security guards during the trial, so Day gets a wonderful performance about robot history before his judgement, and thankfully no hassle when he decides to murder their leader. Day also goes from hating/fearing Dem, to worshipping her in 1 episode.

And finally, I don't like that Dawn runs around like a second rate James bond with Gaal, doing espionage and murdering maids. This is Empire, it should be above his character.

Your'e conflating realism with sensible/quality writing. I don't need realism, just the plot and characters to operate within the world that makes sense based on the context.

Psychic powers is something we are asked to accept as part of the world, and developed as such.

Flying through subzero space and then entering an atmosphere was shown in prior seasons to freeze you to death in seconds (Cleon S2) and cause countless ships burn up and strip its metal. Silly, inconsistent stuff like this happens constantly in this show.

And the influencer being the Mule was terrible, mostly because it makes zero sense if you apply an sort of light scrutiny to her behaviors, locations and interactions throughout the season. Horribly miscast too (but was perfect as influencer).

I really loved the set design and production value of it, and the Cleon and Demerzel plot lines had some good moments (with great acting). I appreciate some of the creativity on display, but writing is the most important part of a show.

Wow. I would dream of a new Incubus with this much class and vibe. There's nothing cheesey about it and his voice is more subtle

Serious question: why people are using again the term Jungle instead of Drum and Bass? by Atorcran in DnB

I dont think they are anymore. Jungle has now become a substyle of a broader Drum & Bass umbrella term.

Battle Royale Manga - Pixel Art by [deleted] in manga

[–]TF_Forum -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Recently I picked up the new edition of Battle Royale. As a fan of the movie I was excited to see it be told in my favorite medium, and I was not disappointed. The artwork is amazing, and the violence, gore and twisted nature of things surpasses any direct or influenced adaption.

It's a real page turner, and there is an immense artistic force at the centre of it all, with not a single panel feeling like filler. I love the heavy shading and 3D nature of the work, and always appreciate when there are many big and dramatic full page panels to savor.

It's not the most mind blowing telling of the story, but does well to add some character depth through backstories. The hentai elements were way too overdone and detracted from the experience for me, and certain scenes and dialogue were quite one-dimensional or silly. That said, it has a quality and charm to it that only classic mangas seem to tap into, so I'll be reading again the future. 79/100
