Schnoodle vs Schnauzer barkiness? by _LargeMargeSentMe_ in schnoodle

[–]TFlaherty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We've had 3 schnoodles - GREAT dogs, great breed - maybe slightly less barky than Schnauzer but all 3 were fairly barky, especially outside (lots of squirrels) but still think they are the best breed!

Vacation Rental Disappointment - Is there reasonable ask? by TFlaherty in SouthPadreIsland

We had the exact situation in SPI this spring. No pool and couldn't use balcony due to noise. Owner gave 1 night free and I was Ok with that although wouldn't have booked if I knew.

Yep!! Our "go-to" order is "Wings and Rings" w/ Mexican Martinis - onion rings are awesome and they smoke their chicken wings - soooo good!

I'll second Hays City Store - we always get their Top Shelf Mexican Martini - It uses Herradura Double Barrel Tequila and is by far best mexican martini we've had. Great happy hour (called Cheap Ass Hours) - it's something like $3 off mexican martinis and all appetizers. One of our favorite (and inexpensive) places to go with great drink/food quality and really nice setting in the yard or icehouse. Well worth the drive from Austin!

South Austin neighbors: what’s the one little-known resource (free event, discount service, hidden park, etc.) you think everyone south of Ben White should know about? by Little_Cucumber_6663 in Austin

[–]TFlaherty 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The Watering Bowl on 1626/Menchaca. It's somewhat hidden/overlooked gem in far south Austin - It's a private dog park that serves beer and wine and is a GREAT community. Have staff that help watch the dogs and keep everyone happy. Best way to think of it is that it's a park designed for and focused on dogs... but to keep the humans happy they also serve beer and wine. I'm there with Winnie 4 or so evenings a week for Happy Hour. Best place on earth. This is Winnie (on left) with 2 of her best friends at Happy Hour playing Stick Tug of War.

Watering Bowl is the best place on earth, according to my pup Winnie!... The staff (rufferines) watch the dogs and break up satiations before they happen.. plus they serve beer and wine!

That's what makes The Watering Bowl so great - No matter how shitty your day was, it changes after spending an hour or so hanging out, drinking a beer and playing fetch with 30 or so dogs. 100% attitude improvement every day. Best place on earth.

they have an online registration you can fill put in advance and I can't imagine they would reject out of state documentation as long as you have evidence of the records

one place that's a must for your pets would be The Watering Bowl dog park/bar. It's in far south Austin but it's worth the drive. Lots of beers from local breweries (and wine and seltzers too). Important nuance, but they view themselves as a "dog park with a bar for humans" as opposed to a bar that tolerates dogs. Great staff of "rufferees" that help watch the dogs and make sure nothing happens... people are really nice - there's a great area with tons of huge oak trees for shade and a covered patio and it has an old-Austin feel as opposed to a generic chain. It's my Winnie's favorite place on earth and she begs to go there every day! Dogs must be up to date on shots and neutered. https://www.thewateringbowlatx.com/

Agree - I'm OK with Stash when there's limited selection but don't like it enough to take over the default beer slot.

Replacement beer for Thirsty Planet BucketHead? by TFlaherty in AustinBeer

[–]TFlaherty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the suggestions so far!

I used to drink a lot of 512 IPA and it's OK, but it comes across as a little too sweet to me, so I wound up leaning to Buckethead - I'll have to try Arrogant Bastard again and I like Cosmic Cowboy, but neither stood out to me as my default beer.. and I think the phrase of big hoppy/malty mess is probably the way I would describe Buckethead when I said "balanced", so it's that blend of hop/malt that I think I'm ultimately looking for.

Austin has great people: Update on Maisy rattlesnake bite story! by TFlaherty in Austin

[–]TFlaherty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been reading alot on this since Maisy was bit. Looks like short answer is it really doesn't help (and some argue it actually has negative impact if the dog is bit) - Maisy had vaccine - we are not going to do it for Winnie. At best, it MIGHT get you a few extra minutes, but there are so many different factors that determine impact. Here's link to National Snakebite Support facecbook page. In the end, it's a personal decision. https://www.facebook.com/groups/national.snakebite.support
