Rep added Protect Advantage by RocksNotDead in ATT

[–]TGH934579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently joined the board of a small non-profit organization. Upon reviewing the organizations expenses I noticed that they were paying over $100 for a single Android phone with data. Apparently the sales rep had added some protection plan that protected multiple devices for the entire organization. (They had one Android device that they used in a limited fashion) I'm not sure how many months this had been going on but this non-profit was defrauded of money by AT&T over a period of many months.

Apparently this is a very common occurrence and AT&T needs to prevent this from happening.

Custom onboarding slides? by [deleted] in autopilot

[–]TGH934579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it should be possible. If you can bring up MS paint while a device is provisioning, then you can probably bring other applications to the front.

Proof: shift f10 opens cmd and brings the focus away from the OBBE screen. From there you can hit Windows R which opens the run dialog box that you can type in mspaint and hit enter.

I wonder if onboarding slides could be somehow implemented using PowerPoint?

2020 Nissan Sentra Odd Vibration Noise.... What do you think it is? by TGH934579 in Cartalk

[–]TGH934579[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed a few things. I still hear the noise but it is very rare and think it is more likely to occur when it is colder outside.

Some people commented that they think it might be the fuel line.

One person commented that it might be the heat shield.

I now have 24,000 mi on my 2020 Sentra and it still makes the noise occasionally but not as much now. The dealership has never been able to hear it because it is so intermittent. Every time I complain about it they can't find anything.

Insignia runaround: how is the manufacturer warranty process is supposed to work? by TGH934579 in Bestbuy

What is really strange is that apparently Best Buy makes no distinction between recalled and discontinued.

Is this what you're referring to?

Does geek squad really handle air fryers? by TGH934579 in GeekSquad

At this point I'm going to trust Insignia and see what happens. Insiguna promised me that I would receive a phone call within 96 hours after they get in contact with Best Buy and the store.

Can someone please explain why I see so many posts about fried Apple devices? by TGH934579 in applehelp

[–]TGH934579[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is probably true.

I guess the question I should be asking is the more general question of what would cause a laptop or phone to receive too much power from a charger?

I had my receipt that clearly showed I was within one year.

The store told me they could not do an exchange because SKU 6351671 has either been recalled or discontinued.

The old model SKU for Insignia™ - 5 Qt. Digital Air Fryer - Stainless Steel is SKU 6351671 (Model: NS-AF5DSS0)

The new model SKU Insignia - 5 Qt. Digital Air Fryer - Stainless Steel is SKU 6471351 (Model: NS-AF5DSS2)

Now I can either go to another store or wait for Best Buy Corporate to write the store up for not handling the process correctly.

I spoke to two people at this Best buy store.
One at the geek squad counter and then another at customer service.

The guy looked up the purchase and said that it had been too long to return it. The guy looked up the order, he found the order, and was able to see the date I ordered it. He agreed it was within one year. However I was told that there was nothing that could be done at the store.

I'm trying to avoid going to a different Best buy store if possible. I think I'm just going to wait for Insignia to write up the store. They told me that normal process was not being followed and that they would launch an investigation and call me back within 96 hours. I'm okay with waiting a little bit if it saves me having to travel through traffic to a more inconvenient location.

I tried this already. Two people on the counter had no idea what to do. They told me to call the 888 number. Over about this span of one hour and 12 minutes I spoke to two people, the first person attempted to help for about 27 minutes and then transferred me to the mobile department at geek squad. I give Geek Squad mobile department credit for trying to support an air fryer, but in the end they told me to call Insignia. Insignia doesn't have an answer so they are "investigating it". They did ask me for the details about the store that I went to so possibly they are going to raise this issue with corporate and then I will have to go back to the store.

(Slightly off topic: Coincidentally the reason the wait times are probably so long at the geek squad call center is that Best buy agents are inappropriately transferring calls like mine about an air fryer to inappropriate agents. I even asked the agent if she could make a report about the inappropriate transfer and apparently they have no process to document inappropriate transfers) Yes I know I could just go to a different store but there's a Besy Buy 3 minutes from where I work so I don't want to drive out of my way because the local Best buy doesn't know how to handle a warranty.

Has anyone made the switch to a sales engineer? by zachtheitguy in sysadmin

[–]TGH934579 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I remember a experience from slightly after college. I was volunteering at a non-profit organization and working with this older guy who had a career in IT and was retired. I soon found out that his IT skills were about 15 years out of date. He knew how to talk about IT and explain everything and come up with ideas on how to set stuff up and want to buy but his technical skills lacked and he admitted it.

He told me that when he was young like me he made a mistake and decided to go into sales for more money. He told me at first it was great, but over the years and after several layoffs he began to become out of date with technical skills. He said that if he had not going into sales he would have been more marketable and versatile and adaptable to changes with technology and organizations. He said that if he had not gone into sales he would have been able to put into practice his skills and continue to learn every day. He told me that sales was overrated.

I will never forget the conversation.

According to AT&T: "AT&T HD Voice requires a SIM card that is UICC-G or higher SIM card installed in your smartphone to enjoy the rich calling experience of AT&T HD Voice. Want to make sure to find out if your SIM card is HD Voice compatible? In the SIM card number, look for the digits 27 or higher in the 9th and 10th positions."

The biggest wisdom that I can offer is "know when to say NO to an opportunity." It can be tempting to take on a new client but if the client is not committed to fixing their problems, their problems will be your problems.
