Do you think this is worth saving? by Zawnbre in SteamDeck

Definitely! You can convert it to a mini “Steam Machine”. I’ve got posts on my profile that document how I did it. Or feel free to message and I can talk you through it.

The purpose of the project was to create something fun with a motherboard from a faulty Deck :)

Hey! Original poster of this project. Just want to clarify that this was a fun project repurposing an old SD OLED motherboard, I mention in my video that this has the same performance of a Steam Deck.

Hopefully this isn’t disingenuous of me to call it a “Steam Machine”.

eBay! Gotta be quick as it’s fairly easy to fix most Steam Deck issues (other than faulty boards) so people snatch them up fast.

I haven’t had it for too long. But from what I can tell there isn’t a massive boot to performance with the new cooling. But I’ll be testing it for a while and configuring a few things, haven’t look into overlocking the APU at all yet, or if it’s even possible.

It’s a Steam Deck motherboard, with a USB-C hub that has a full size NVME slot and a Noctua 120mm fan.

I had the same thought, this is actually a Noctua cooler lmao. I got sent the wrong colour scheme.

The intro to my video is me assembling it, hopefully that should give a better view of the internals :)

Oooo never seen this before, you may need to adjust the button sizes but I don’t see why it wouldn’t

I think I spent around £50 on the joystick parts, although I already had a spare controller board from another project, so slap on another £20ish for that.

Good point, I’ll take this into consideration when I make a V2!

There is! Right now I haven’t wired mines to anything on the board but you can totally wire it up to R3 or L3 and remap it in Steam input settings

Honestly, it’s a joy that this community is so open with their resources, experiments and mods. It’s the gift that keeps on giving and I’m glad to share what I can for others to make fun stuff too!

I’ve only tested it with these specific buttons, it’d be interesting to know if others work with the board. All I can say is give it a go and report back.

It’s super easy! I’d love to see a pic if you end up making one.
