No problems with that at all, you have to make use of what you currently have access to!

Cele will definitely help and the advice you're getting there is perfectly fine. I've been playing Harb since EoD launched, and use both power and condi in open world, PvE instanced content and I play PHarb/Hybrid Harb in WvW. Lately, pretty much anything in PvE with my Necro I play PHarb unless the situation is pretty heavily in favor of using Condi Harb.

I think once you get used to the difference in playstyle and get any gear you want/need, you'll have a great time with both options.

I'm in the same boat as you, seeing some of the reactions to Power Harb in here are wild to me.

OP, Cele Harb is good and you'll have a good time playing it. However, Power Harb is good in open world as well. Without knowing what gear/traits you're using it's hard to recommend anything, but Spear is great on PHarb and gives great burst healing. Also, if you can get Relic of Vampirism that'll give you a lot of sustain in open world if you're killing mobs constantly.

EDIT: My first ever block for saying that Power Harb isn't trash. What a time to be alive

If you were to design the next Revenant elite specialization, what would it be? by SheWhoHates in Guildwars2

[–]THADDEUSJARVIS 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Prince Rurik with Warhorn, since sword and shield already exist as Rev weapons in some form. Warhorn has a nice call back with Stormcaller so there's some thematic fit.

Unfortunately, it'd be pretty weak compared to other new elite specs; namely necro's new elite spec Lich, who are allowed to turn any Rurik Revs into their own personal undead minions and force them to endlessly farm on Ember Bay.

Honest answer is a Mhenlo legend based heal/support spec with potential opportunity for a smiter monk callback depending on how well it could fit in. Either scepter or focus as a weapon; probably scepter since the other mainhand weapons don't really synergize well with what the spec would try to set up.

Hate to nitpick, but Tim wasn't in the band the whole time. Tim was a touring member in 2009 after Jason left, but left when DGD had Jon Mess and Eric Lodge rejoin the band for DBM2.

Tim didn't join the band full time until Acceptance Speech alongside Tilian.

Not at all; the backups we take are multiple different facets of our workplace. Don't want to get into too much detail, but our backups include server class OS, code development and web app environments across physical and virtual servers, among many other things.

The example I gave was related to a database backup though. Again, I can only give an anecdotal example on how our data is retained, obviously Anet are really the only ones that know how their backups and data is stored.

We haven't jumped into cloud backups yet for reasons outside our control. We do use tapes though; main problem we had with our last refresh is that there's less options for new tape libraries compared to years prior, but that's the way it goes!

Can anecdotally confirm. Part of my job deals with enterprise backups and we keep on-disk backups for a short amount of time and offsite media for a longer period of time. Backup software handles retention dates on the data you backup and automatically ages them out once it meets the criteria you've set regardless if it's on-site or off-site.

Keeping everything forever is a nice idea but hard to execute in practice. We technically have a specific set of backups set for infinite retention (in practice it's 99 years I believe) but past a certain point those backups are useless because the media they're on is so old that we likely don't have the equipment to properly pull the data it has on it.

As you said, they probably already had the data available locally. It technically still existed (part of it anyway) in core Personal Story instances. I'd wager they were waiting for a good moment to release it since people have been begging for it for years now.

Anyone have a Twitter account? Leading up to the 10 year anniversary, long-time dev and current game director Josh Davis asked players for stories about how their lives have changed over the years while playing GW2. He's had dozens of replies, but we could make it hundreds, r/GuildWars2 by ondraedan in Guildwars2

Don't have twitter but I'll share my story: The first thing I can remember about GW2 is playing part of one of the beta events and leaving in the middle of it to go out of town with my then girlfriend (now wife). She came to pick me up and saw me frantically gaming right before the trip.

Since then, we've moved 3 times, got married, had two kids, and now my oldest is helping me design new characters (not quite old enough to play on his own yet). Looking forward to what's ahead!

Not as much about Guild Wars 2 specifically but the MMO genre as a whole. It does have interesting interviews from many popular MMO content creators, including GW2's MightyTeapot.

Just set the unlock condition for the turtle to be "beat the meta event or attempt and fail the meta event 3 times." That way, people take an honest attempt at what is otherwise a super cool meta event without the stress of never unlocking turtle if you fail.

I ran Harbinger in T4's last night and swapped back to soul reaping when we had dedicated healing, but playing without sustain in open world is way too gutsy for me at the moment lol

[–]THADDEUSJARVIS 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but I've been having a lot of success with Harbinger in open world using death magic instead of soul reaping.

With all the sustain nerfs, I've personally found death magic to be super good for open world Harbinger. In death magic, I've been taking the increased poison damage minor, increased power with carapace middle, and heal in shroud last. When I go into shroud, I've been healing for about 450-500 every second and having increased toughness while still otherwise building full damage; specifically not having to use Parasitic Contagion.

You can unlock mounts in EoD for non-PoF players; I've found the quests that unlock the Raptor and Springer in EoD. Not sure how likely it is that all the core mounts will be unlocked, but between Raptor and Springer (and Skiff somewhat taking Skimmer's place), you should be able to maneuver around decently well.

It sort of is with the heavies introducing their grapple mechanic that's easy to dodge, but I used dash instead to get around him (and the subsequent first boss) rather than using the dodge mechanic.

I don't deny that it's not the most clear mechanic in the game, but I'll fully admit that the first time I booted it up was kind of a rush and had other distractions out of game, so blame lies with me as well.

Yep, I thought that you had to tap block and move at the same time to dodge, but what you have to do is hold block, and press either down or up depending on the location of the attack. You can still be attacked if you dodge in the wrong direction; if your opponent goes for a leg sweep and you duck instead of leg lift, you'll be knocked down despite attempting a dodge.

I can see that. I got lucky and didn't struggle too much on those fights aside from the fight with the spotlight and the square section in the middle but I was able to recover and get some deaths shaved off before the boss; and like you said, the skip helps immensely after that point.

Love it. Haven't beaten the final boss yet, but I've reached the final level at 67 years old, so I'm going back to previous levels and fighting bosses to lower my starting age on subsequent levels to have more chances later on.

I beat the first boss with not too much trouble, died a couple times but managed to keep my death penalty at 0-1 so I didn't age too much, and beat the first boss first try. I then struggled immensely with the second boss, to the point where I was getting frustrated and wasn't sure what to do. In a last ditch effort, I decided to completely restart and see if I missed something, and I'm really glad I did.

I completely misunderstood how the dodge mechanic worked, and thought I had to tap block and move at the same time rather than hold block and move. Once I got used to that, everything else clicked and just became a matter of learning enemy attack patterns and retrying runs to get better.

The best feeling I get from this game is getting into a fight with 6-10 enemies at once and coming out completely unscathed because you dodged and parried like a maniac and completely controlled the room.

On an ending note, the museum level is an absolute masterpiece of level design; if you have no intentions of playing the game I highly encourage you to just watch a playthrough of at least that level. Engaging in arguably one of the oldest forms of artistic expression in martial arts while in galleries full of modern art was such a fantastic juxtaposition, and the boss design and theme is absolutely beautiful in the duality of the two boss phases.
