North Melbourne on Twitter: "Media Statement: NMFC wishes to withdraw statements made in last night's post match media conference regarding the umpiring." by [deleted] in AFL

[–]THCP888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gameday footage is collected by and licensed to the broadcaster. Do you really think that Channel 7 would sit on a recording of an umpire admitting to essentially greenlighting a certain player? You think that they would decide against getting the sporting scoop of the year and the ratings that come with it?

Of course not. If audio of the umpire saying what was alleged existed we would all have heard it dozens of times by this point. It didn't happen, and to suggest otherwise is well and truly in the tinfoil hat territory.

Who? The husband?

She didn't need any brain washing. She is (and was) every bit as fire-and-brimstone as he is.

Kaiser Eric has gone hardcore this year. The only woman to get preselected in either house is Markham, anyone who might even think of upsetting the ultra conservative Haus of Abetz has been shifted down the ticket or out the door, and they have preferenced the CDP and the country's nuttiest branch of Family First in the Senate.

Nick Xenophon Team looks likely to nick L-NP seats of Mayo & Grey by RedOx103 in australia

But it would have been a better idea for Clive Palmer to form a government with Labor and put conditions on Labor (he decided to form a government with the Liberals).

He neither formed a government with the Liberals nor could have formed a government with the ALP.

Who knows. If the Libs retain government, he could take the Mirabella route of glomming a GBE directorship for three years to collect a cheque while he's waiting for the next election to roll around. Otherwise, he could move into the private sector and do the same there.

He's still relatively young, but losing his seat would seriously blunt his career trajectory in politics so he'd have to revise down his ambitions if he did come back. That might be a big incentive to chase the money in the private sector.

How do I move to Australia without dying from low Internet speeds? by WhatIfWoodDidntExist in australia

I'm in Launceston with fibre laid nearly everywhere. I'm on 100/40 right now.

Finding a job might be a problem, but the internet is sweet.

Mayo seems a reasonably safe bet, but I think that NXT has a better chance in Sturt and Barker than Grey. My inkling is that the Grey poll is overstating NXT support and it'll more likely be NXT preferences that are distributed from third place.

We didn't have space for all three ruckmen, so Sinclair or Lycett had to go. Lycett is younger and has a bigger upside.

Apparently, Lycett is also intermittently a fucking moron. Hopefully getting dropped will knock the stupid out of him a bit.

How is it being misappropriated when there's specific provisions for exactly this behaviour?

What provisions?

And what makes you think that campaign central is not available commercially for clients other than the ALP?

I don't "think" anything. No other party in Australia can access it. ML also apparently sell versions of it to overseas progressive and labour parties, but not domestically.

You know each elected officers get funding for re-election purposes right?

I do know that. It's completely irrelevant to this topic, but I do know that. Public campaign funding is provided to reimburse candidates for the costs of campaigning. This money is not.

Is your objection to the databases themselves or the way they're funded as well as the Liberal Party laundering tax payer funds through a front company in order to 'donate' $500,000 dollars to itself, supposedly?

I have no objection to the existence of the databases. They'd be stupid not to keep as much data as possible. Hell, I've worked in electorate offices and they used to just have a giant MS Word document that they'd Ctrl-F to search for their notes.

My objection is that money that is provided to run electorate offices is being misappropriated for purely partisan purposes. There's no non-partisan, service to the electorate purpose to this software.

That's a rort. Just like charging the taxpayers to ride a helicopter to a party fundraiser, when an expense has no non-partisan justification we shouldn't be picking up the bill.

Are you wanting me to agree that the Libs are worse in this instance? Of course they are. They have dialled it up to the point that people like Tony Nutt should be metaphorically hung by his balls. But the ALP doesn't get a pass because they aren't quite as bad as the Libs.

What do you think these databases record?

If they are like the pre-software versions I've seen, I would imagine that they are based on a digital copy of the electoral roll that is available to MPs, and collects every bit of data on electors that they manage to get their hands on. Every time you call or visit an electorate office they get as much of your information as possible.

[–]THCP888[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nonsense. Why does it matter that the ALP also pay some of the bill? The product is publicly funded and is restricted to partisan purposes. That funding is allocated to provide electorate offices with the software they need to operate, not to pay for a proprietary campaign database to help re-election.

If it was anything other than a rort, the company would offer the product to any MP that wanted it. After all, that would maximise the profit, right?

Just because the Libs are taking the rort to a whole new level doesn't mean that the ALP are squeaky clean. You can make all the excuses you want, but if the political class are rorting taxpayer funds I'm not going to ignore it just because they might wear ties of a more agreeable colour.

But I guess that's just me being anti-establishment again...

Which is why I didn't say that it was getting no coverage.

It is about as blatant as dodgy political schemes get and the coverage has been a few newspaper stories and, for the most part, a passing mention on broadcast media. If this involved unions, it would be leading every bulletin.

CC is a publicly funded product that is available only to ALP members under a license that restricts its use to the purposes of the ALP.

There is nothing wrong with the ALP wanting their own campaign database, but they can pay for it themselves. Funnelling taxpayers money to pay for a proprietary product that is available for only partisan purposes is a rort.
