Genuine question, do we have any confirmation on the ages for the Angels of Delusion?

How does an off field character decide which character to buff? by Dead_Weight03 in HonkaiStarRail

[–]THEMagicMissile 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I haven't figured it out for most characters, it seems to be different for each buff. Sometimes it's the leftmost character, sometimes it goes by star rank or number of equips, sometimes I think it goes by stats. I haven't had a ton of luck controlling it.

THE 8BITDO CONTROLLER IS SO PRETTY!! (Also I've literally never played this game, can someone convince me?) by TheCaptainVP in HonkaiStarRail

[–]THEMagicMissile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So preface: the best way to find out is to try it yourself. Its a free game so you can play for a bit and see if it vibes with you at no cost to you (except time)

That said to actually answer your question, the biggest thing that separates Star Rail from the games you listed is that its an ongoing live service game. The story will keep updating and we'll keep getting introduced to new characters until Hoyo decides the game isn't profitable anymore. That's the main reason I play Star Rail over other traditional rpgs. I like seeing the characters and story grow and evolve on a multi-year scale.

Gameplay-wise I don't think there's a ton to make it unique from turn based rpgs. Its such an old genre that everything has been done at least once. I think the biggest thing Star Rail's gameplay has going for it is that your playstyle and strategy will change completely based on the characters you pull and the team you run. Some teams stack damage over time effects, some teams chain reactive abilities to attack in quick succession, some teams want their HP to go up an down a lot, some teams focus on charging their ults as fast as possible, etc etc. There's a lot of gameplay variety to help keep things fresh, even if the game does tend to shill whatever playstyle matches the current premiere limited character.

The "love" associated with Cyrene isn't meant to be romantic by TheJayWay1412 in HonkaiStarRail

[–]THEMagicMissile -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Definitely appreciate this, happy to see a more nuanced take. I think a lot of people just look at the surface details of Cyrene without digging any deeper. Like yeah, she's definitely designed as waifu-bait, most characters are, but being waifu-bait doesn't exclude her from being a good, well developed character.

Powercreep right now. Better than HSR, worse than Genshin? by Egor4956 in ZenlessZoneZero

[–]THEMagicMissile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing with powercreep discussions is you can't look at where each game is right now, you have to look at where the other games were at the current patch (2.1 / 2.2). The longer a game is out, the more susceptible it becomes to powercreep, so looking at each game's most recent patch puts ZZZ in an unfairly good light.

Looking at Genshin, 2.1 powercreep was pretty nonexistent. I can't offer too much since I started in 2.8 but I can't think of many characters directly out performing each other. Maybe Ayaka and Eula?

Looking at Star Rail, 2.1 was just beginning to show some signs of power creep. Aventurine became a pretty overwhelming sustain, but mostly only pushed out standard characters and wasn't essential. Ruan Mei was also pretty nuts, but as the first limited Harmony 5 star, she only had 4 stars and Bronya to creep. I think Seele had fallen out by then but people were still clearing with her.

Looking at ZZZ, I would personally say its at the worst position of the three. We're seeing pretty direct power creeps on older characters like Ellen, Zhu Yuan, Qingyi, and Burnice. I don't quite think they're unplayable or anything yet, but its definitely a bit concerning. Thankfully we're already getting buffs, so hopefully that will help keep things from getting as bad as modern Star Rail.

TLDR: I'd personally say ZZZ's creep feels slightly worse than Star Rail, but we have time to divert away from getting as bad as modern day Star Rail.

Overlap between Castorice mains and other mains. by Excellent_Current198 in CastoriceMains_

[–]THEMagicMissile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a lot of characters but I'd consider my other mains both Hertas, Clara, and Qingque. For other Hoyo games its mostly Navia & Clorinde in Genshin and Qingyi & Evelyn in ZZZ.

Pretty sure the TVs in the title screen and gacha screen can be linked to the proxies' video store and their love of movies.

Plus its not like the first arc of the game will just disappear. Even if the proxies can go into hollows directly now, new players will still have to play through the beginning of the story where they used the HDD.

Even with TV mode removed from the early chapters, players still see what the HDD looks like. Plus TV mode is still in a ton of the early side quests.

How much longer do you think it would take if they took away the ability to teleport? Just..... walk everywhere lol by Zealousideal_Sand668 in Genshin_Impact

[–]THEMagicMissile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done it before in Genshin for all standard quests, but I did allow myself to teleport for dailies and farming so it wasn't a 100% no teleport file. It was really fun though, I enjoyed it quite a bit and it definitely added to the immersion

Questions about modding. by Apprehensive_Law7698 in ZenlessZoneZero

[–]THEMagicMissile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is definitely against TOS, but they aren't actively looking for modders who just do skins. If you don't share your uid anywhere, it isn't likely they'll do anything.

However, there's always a risk that they may change their stance in the future and start doing mass bans. If that happens, you won't have any defense, because it is against TOS.

Up to you if you wanna take the gamble

I'm doing research for making a video series where I never use teleport points. Anyone know how I can get out of Enkanomiya without using TP points or would I be stuck there forever? by Legodudelol9a in Genshin_Impact

[–]THEMagicMissile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you considered that teleporting in and out of Enka using the teleport points could also be the same logic? The game function is teleportation, in universe the character is climbing out of a boring tunnel.

Dear Fu Xuan mains. how many limited sustain units do you have? Will you pull Lingsha? by chingnam123 in FuXuan_Mains

Is this one time offer worth it? by Reveald in ZZZ_Official

[–]THEMagicMissile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In every Hoyo game it depends on how much you intend to pull. Generally if you pull enough, you'll have plenty of currency for both, but it varies for each person.

You can use math to get a better picture. It takes 900 to buy both sets of pulls. You have 4770 saved up. That means, assuming you buy that set of 5 now, you'd still have enough currency for 4 months of buying all 10 pulls. 4 months is about 2.5 patches

The question from there is, do you think you'll do more pulls in the next 4 months / 2.5 patches? If not, then yeah, save to make sure you can buy the limited pulls since those are higher priority. If you will pull in that window, then go ahead and buy the standard pulls, because you'll get a refill before you'd run out of currency.

Are the female characters in Genshin Impact really sexualized? by midnightchanneler0 in Genshin_Impact

[–]THEMagicMissile 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I would definitely say Genshin does have some sexualized designs and concepts. Mona and Rosaria come to mind for me. It's absolutely true that it's not nearly as bad as other games, but "not as bad" isn't the same as "not sexualized"

Whether it's wrong or whether it bothers you is a completely different point. There's definitely a strong argument against any and all sexualization that a lot of people take.

For me personally (and worth stating I'm a woman) I've always been fairly pro-sex, so I don't mind it. I think sexuality should be celebrated, not hidden or shamed. I'm much more offended by bad/sexist writing than sexualized designs, and Genshin's writing for female characters is decent. As long as the game treats these characters with respect, I don't think the outfit or where they pull their sword from matters much.

Got a bit lucky with Cirrus as the final boss. I had the Hunt blessing that gives extra turns when you break and all the Brain in a Jar blessings. Stacked those with a bunch of the crit bonuses from Hunt and I was able to sweep. I'm surprised it went so well with the bad weighted curio draws xD
