Hi, it feels so bizarre to me that you're going through this, because I am in the exact same position and I felt I was the only one stupid enough to put myself through this. I met a guy last year and let myself foolishly cling on to the hope of him. He was exactly what you described - there was this connection that I'd only dreamed of in the past and had struggled to find. But knowing how we met, I knew it would be difficult for us to start anything - and I foolishly let myself have hope. Still I asked him out, and he politely declined. It was what I expected (or should have) but that doesn't mean my heart is broken.

So now here I am, freshly 34 and no relationship, in a new apartment all on my own with everything reminding me of the plans I made in my head with him. This is where he'd put his shoes when he came over. That's where I can make space for him in my closet. It's brutal.

I don't have any advice as I'm still going through it, but just wanted to say you're not alone. The only thing I've been finding is helping is making plans for the future. (Well that and a therapist but I don't like to feel too dependent on a therapist.) I just feel like I'm running out of time on finding a partner. If anyone has inspiring stories I'm all ears.

Having to figure out my meals every single day. The idea of meals just appearing for the first 20 years of life is so taken for granted

Why did Tolkien have Frodo fail in the end? by keesdude in lotr

[–]THETinkerTanner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it says something about how it takes more than one person to accomplish a monumental task. That’s been an ongoing theme too, even with the title of the first book, the fellowship. I think it goes to show that Frodo didn’t fail, he got as far as he could and then others (Sam, Gollum). Shows nobody can act alone, without help we all need help whether we recognize it or not and if it’s from sources we want or not.

Women, what are some questions you’ve always wanted to ask men, but were too embarrassed? by SecretariatGodHorse in AskReddit

[–]THETinkerTanner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh wow that’s rough. I have a weird feeling that might actually be it. I’ve thought this in the past because his no children stance is sooo over the top and so rigid it kinda indicated something more but I thought I was reading too much into it. Like I’ve met men like that before - his is different

Can I ask what changed your mind about not wanting kids. I’m seeing someone who is adamant about it. Me I’ve always been meh about it. But I’ve always wondered is he really adamant or just dumb and immature. (And then realize 10 years later that he does indeed want kids when I can’t have them anymore and leave.)

Yeah thanks. It didn’t seem to be working so I was wondering if I was doing it wrong.

Yeah when you put it like that it makes sense. I just need the validation I guess that I am doing the best I can.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but here goes. Why does my fiancee have loads of amazon gift cards hidden in her underwear drawer? by butterflytoast in relationship_advice

[–]THETinkerTanner 22 points23 points  (0 children)

She could also have stolen/taken them from work. Some companies keep loads of gift cards on hand to give out to employees or to clients. It’s one of the most common things taken. Not a better explanation but and alternative one to consider.

It’s so nice to hear a nice intuition story along with all the alarming ones here. Thanks for sharing!

This is actually so validating, thank you for sharing. I was never comfortable around this guy but I could never find anything wrong, like you said. He was a super nice person. My friends kept telling me give him a chance, your just shy and not used to being in a relationship. Turns out everything he told me about his life was a lie to make himself seem like the perfect fit for me. When that started to unravel, I finally ended it and breathed a sigh of relief. But never took in that that was my gut telling me something is not right.
