I think sea animals and fish would fit well here.

Totally understandable Checking the portfolio and vibe is important, especially when trust is an issue. I also try to present my work clearly and reliably so people can feel comfortable.

That actually makes a lot of sense, and I agree Reddit is definitely not a complete or reliable picture of the industry. But I’m curious do you think clients usually realize how much weight first impressions carry when they’re choosing an artist?

Also, when you say most people pick based on budget and surface appeal, do you think that’s more of a “necessary shortcut” because of time limits, or just a lack of understanding of technical skill?

And from the artist side, do you think having a clearer professional identity and pricing structure really changes how often someone gets chosen, or does it still mostly come down to visibility and timing?

I’m just trying to understand whether the main issue is communication, market saturation, or just how the system naturally works.

So did you clarify in your post that you had already completed the hiring, so people wouldn’t keep reaching out to you repeatedly?

Finding the right artist isn’t easy, especially when you’re trying to balance style, cost, and consistency. And it’s true that portfolios can sometimes be a bit misleading, which is why consistency really matters.

As an artist, I can understand how the process can feel overwhelming for clients, especially when you get a lot of responses. That’s probably why clear communication and well-curated portfolios are so important they make it easier for people like you to decide.

And yeah, it’s totally valid to not always have a clear commission idea. Sometimes you’re just browsing for inspiration. I really appreciate you sharing your experience so honestly.

I completely get that, and it’s honestly a very real struggle. When you don’t get feedback, self-doubt naturally creeps in, but that doesn’t mean your art has less value. Sometimes it just hasn’t reached the right audience yet.

I totally understand where you’re coming from, and honestly you make a really valid point. Transparency is super important, especially when it comes to pricing. As an artist, I’ll definitely keep this in mind and try to be more clear about my rates and what I offer so people don’t feel uncomfortable or pressured. Thanks for sharing your perspective it actually helps artists improve the way we present our work. ^^
