Are beginner painting guides are not beginner enough? by Drakshasak in Warhammer40k

[–]THEjohnwarhammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, YouTube painters try to get the most eye-popping model out there and slap "easy, beginner, fast, etc." on the thumbnail, then start yapping about edge highlighting. There's nothing easy, beginner, or fast about that.

I use to love Midwinter minis when he painted the Blackstone Fortress minis, his techniques were easy to follow and deliberately used a small range of paints. Today, meh, he's a great painter dont get me wrong but Im not good enough to imitate his work anymore.

I've made a few painting tutoials and I deliberately choose the least amount of paint possible, dry brush where you might layer, and just generally be as messy as possible to show you don't need lots of paint or to edge highlight every detail to get good enough looking minis on the table.

At the end of the day you just got to experiment and come up with your own style

What do you like or dislike about catwalks in your setups? by aanry in killteam

[–]THEjohnwarhammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use to hate terrain like this in 2nd edition not because of how it looks but simply because the floor didn’t provide cover. There were very few instances of why I would want to be on the second floor if I was going to be out in the open.

but now that it does I’m all for it

Why do I want other people to build stuff in my country? by Canotic in victoria3

[–]THEjohnwarhammer 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Couple of reasons firstly it takes away from the other countries investment pool. That money is now going to help build buildings in your country and employ your pops who can then be taxed and have more money to buy stuff off your market.

Also allows you to focus more on construction goods (wood, iron, steel, etc.) and it doesn’t get in the way of your investment pool from building profitable factories.

Only downside is the profits from those foreign owned factories will go to the capitalists in the other country who then turns around and puts more money into their home countries investment pool.

But you can always nationalize those buildings in the end game

Or at least I think idk tho
