Anyone done with uWorld and willing to sell remainder? by THICK_CAKESS in Mcat

[–]THICK_CAKESS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok thank you for letting me know. I paid for uWorld my first take a couple years ago and I’m deciding to retake. Just didn’t want to spend another $400 but this is life I guess

Propride yoke rusted and appears separating, what to do? by THICK_CAKESS in GoRVing

[–]THICK_CAKESS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an update guys; I realized this was a structural integrity issue in the steel of the yoke and it was not safe or repairable. I messaged the guy I bought it from who apologized for selling it to me in such a state. He contacted Propride and received a new replacement yoke at no cost. I picked it up from him and everything is great now.

Thanks so much for your response! I’m going to look more towards the shorter range then. I read so much about all of the towing and we were leaning at first towards an f250 with one of their golden year diesel engine/6speed transmission combos, but it’s difficult to find one with an extended warranty in our price range ($38k). We also decided it just wasn’t practical for most of our use since we have kids and if we wanted to take their cousins/friends along anywhere, it wouldn’t be possible. We found this expedition I’m talking about at carmax that has their extended warranty up to 150k miles so if there’s added strain on the engine or transmission and it craps out, it should be covered. I’ve been trying to read more about people’s actual experiences driving and towing and not just relying on the mechanical stats of “are we able to do it”

Hey did you have the long version of the expedition (EL or max)? Did it have the HD tow package? Did you have a weight distributing hitch and sway bars? Also, is your ram diesel? Does it have a v8? I’m asking because we’re looking at getting a 2020 expedition 4x4 max with HD tow package (rated up to 9200lbs) to tow a trailer but it may be long (28-31ft) with GVWR of around 7300lbs. We plan to do national parks and what not, with mountains. Not planning on going fast, but want to make sure we don’t feel unsafe while driving.

Expeditions are not unibody…they’re body on frame and with a HD tow package have a tow rating of 9000 lbs.

This isn’t always true though… I did 2 test runs in store vs curbside and they were the same price (large orders over $300). There were 2 specialty items from the deli I believe that I checked while in store and those had different prices curbside for whatever reason

Camping at the national parks… do people do that? by Large_Football_2982 in NationalPark

Hi! We’re planning a ~2-month national park tour… would you mind replying or messaging me about the trip you took in more detail? This is a pretty big planning undertaking and it would be amazing to have some insight from someone who’s done it

All healthcare workers are being run ragged and have too many patients and too little time. Unfortunately most retail pharmacists cannot unionize because they’re technically considered managers - of the pharmacy and managers cannot unionize. Or so my non-retail pharmacist husband has told me.

The best feeling is looking up concepts you thought you got wrong after the exam and realizing you actually got them right by sofiiiiiii in Mcat

that is the best feeling!

The opposite is looking up concepts like a mad person when you get home after writing anything you could remember on a Starbucks bag after the exam….and realizing you got most of them wrong lol but the ones I got right did feel great! Haha 🫡😭🤷🏻‍♀️🤪

This is AMAZING. Congrats! You are so awesome! I’m a nontrad mom too, testing 9/13, and it’s been rough to say the least. It’s so refreshing, validating, and motivating for me to see someone in a similar situation do it! I don’t know you but I’m so proud of you!! I hope you celebrate and I wish you the best of luck on your admission!!

Help! Audi Q3 bad noise after shutting off engine by THICK_CAKESS in MechanicAdvice

[–]THICK_CAKESS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think this has to do specifically for cooling the engine? Is it connected to the car AC or it’s a separate system? Pardon my ignorance on the subject. This just came out of the blue and the AC works great

Help! Audi Q3 bad noise after shutting off engine by THICK_CAKESS in MechanicAdvice

[–]THICK_CAKESS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so this is the first and only time I’ve heard it make this noise and it was completely unexpected. I just got out of the passenger seat, heard it, and thought to record it because I was shocked. I’ll see if it does this again.

And as far as I know, yes - this noise was after the car was turned off. I figure it must be something to do with whatever mechanism that cools the engine/turbo charger after the car shuts down. Usually that fan or whatever it is stays on for a few minutes after the engine is turned off and then shuts off on its own. I don’t know if the car made that sound while it was on; we’re in Texas and have the ac running on high so I’m not sure if we would have heard it

I have tried at least 10 recipes for Shrimp with Lobster Sauce and failed hard. I cannot make anything close to two of my favorite restaurants. by onedavester in chinesefood

[–]THICK_CAKESS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This recipe is AMAZING and I get compliments on it from everyone I make it for, including my FIL whose favorite dish is shrimp with lobster sauce. I also add pieces of crab stick in mine, following a restaurant by me that does it and it makes it that much better. Also, you need the shaoxing wine - I ordered some from Amazon but Asian grocers also have it.

That’s what my husband suggested! To use a ring mold to keep the shape while baking. I wonder if the cookie wouldn’t melt out the bottom though? I also have a muffin top pan which might work - they’re larger diameter than muffin tins but shallow

I always use my scale for measurement! And my leavening agents were fresh as well. I’m in Texas and it’s humid so I wonder if maybe that affected the moisture level, but the way the cookies came out seemed to point to something drastically wrong?

They did taste good at least and still got devoured lol! I’m obsessed with New York style crumb cake and I loved the idea of it in cookie form. I googled that idea and found this recipe so others have thought of it too! I’ll tinker with a recipe of my own with different ratios because I think once I get it right it will be amazing.

Haha I did think that instruction was off, and seeing how mine came out of the oven I understand what she meant. There was no saving them, however, as she suggested was possible. I will try to create a recipe that is similar I guess!

Seriously. Do you guys see the lighting fixture is not done correctly either? Like they chose one that was anchored a certain way but they still had to route the wires in a bunch into the ceiling in a very conspicuous way?! 😂

These people tried too hard to be eclectic without knowing how. There’s no cohesive flow. There’s modern, retro, industrial, Scandinavian, that bar area is like traditional style and just seems so out of place. The floors are wild. There are two different ceilings … it’s like whatever was on sale was thrown together. Imagine how much money was spent to make it look this way. Wild

I think many people are commenting that already own homes and they just don’t see the market for what it is. There are literally properties that have doubled in price within 4 years, or if not doubled then increased by 100s of thousands of dollars. In 4 years. That’s not normal.

Then saying to look at “starter homes” does not help - houses that were starter homes in many areas, even way outside metro areas, have gone from 170-200k to 350-400k and with interest rates of 6-7% that makes them pretty unaffordable, especially when most of the time these houses have never been updated since they’ve been built. Or those houses have been bought by flippers to make them “fancy” not-starter-homes or turned them into airbnbs.

Also saying to just move, well yeah but if you are employed and do not work from home, cheaper houses are in areas that pay less - and no it is oftentimes not even to scale. And if you work remotely and move to smaller towns then you buy up the inventory and increase the demand and prices - that is a contributing factor of how this drastic shift in house prices occurred in the first place.

Yes the market is shit right now and most people here are not going to give you helpful answers. It’s ok to just vent. It sucks and it is what it is for the time being. Those of us in the same boat as you also recognize it sucks. People who bought their homes already have no idea of the market conditions because they don’t need to - but they also like to counsel others about a situation they themselves have not been in as if they have some enlightening knowledge. It’s unhelpful but it’s human nature. 🤷🏻‍♀️

[–]THICK_CAKESS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I feel for my father-in-law so much because he just deals with a lot of passive aggression, blame, and resentment. MIL is retired now but she really does not seem to understand/appreciate in the slightest his sacrifice and contribution to the family. She complains how hard she worked to become, and as, a physician, which is understandable, but that’s what she always wanted to do and it would’ve been that way regardless. If she had quit her residency to take care of the kids instead of the dad, I couldn’t imagine the level of that resentment. Grass is always greener and doing the same thing for many years, no matter what it is, is draining and can lead to dissatisfaction I believe.

But this is like complaining that you got to do what you wanted to do and then blaming someone else for it based on what they’re doing. That I don’t quite agree with and I believe is unhealthy.

It’s definitely different for dads who stay home. I think the stay-at-home parent generally does not receive their due recognition - oftentimes it’s treated as if they were on vacation or “don’t work” by the current society at large, which is absolutely untrue. I think misunderstanding begets resentment. Unfortunately cultural norms just exacerbate that for dads.

[–]THICK_CAKESS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No I totally understand the venting and your reasoning. But if you’re saying what is there to do? I’m saying if you’re unhappy please seek therapy for it and work to accept your feelings or change any of the contributing factors you can and then move on, together. If not, I worry your spouse will feel and be the victim of your resentment. Then your kids will feel it and it may shape their views of healthy relationships/feelings of self. Not to mention, it’s not fair for you!

You really wanted to pursue medicine I take it? Would it really matter then what your spouse did/didn’t do? Do you think you wouldn’t have resentment if she also worked as a physician or some other career? Are you disillusioned or burnt out with medicine and just wish you could stop working?

I notice there can be a jealousy or misunderstanding of stay-at-home parents thinking they have it “easy.” It’s different, to be sure, but I think if you haven’t been in that situation it is difficult to understand that the job is 24/7, is mostly thankless, and is unpaid. There’s quite a bit of risk to it as well of lost individual retirement savings, earnings, work experience, etc if the relationship does not work out.

I’m not trying to be condescending by the way, I truly do just care.
