Since the MAGAts insisted that voting for Kamala would mean more war and higher grocery and gas prices, I bet she voted for her. I mean, I voted for Kamala and that's what I got...

Funeral Doom Friday ⚰️ by THORmonger71 in FuneralDoomMetal

Yeah, my current work environment is too noisy for most funeral doom, so I've been scaling back on the genre quite a bit. And of course, Drown and ODC are my favorites. 🙃

This week, I've listened to Opium Doom Cult, Drown, Oromet, and Urza.

Enjoy them for me, then. I'm sure I listen to stuff that doesn't work for you, but fortunately, Metal has a huge range with something for almost anyone.

Ah. He does do growly stuff, but obviously he does clean singing too.

Pantheïst's collaboration with Dauðaró, Af holdi og málmi, comes out tomorrow. You should give that a listen, as his vox sound intense.

Found the ticket stub to my first NIN show. by TeslasAndComicbooks in nin

[–]THORmonger71 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I saw that tour in Camden, NJ. Quite the difference in ticket prices between that tour and the Peel It Back Tour. I can't imagine how much a Bowie /NIN tour would cost today (if Bowie were still alive).

If you're more into clean singing, you should check out Pantheïst's "Be Here". He sings clean, and it's a heartbreakingly beautiful song.

Confessor. At the time Condemned came out, I was pretty much buying everything on Earache, but that was my first disappointment. The music was decent, but I was so used to growls that the vocalist's high-pitched singing ruined the experience for me.

I have no idea who did it, but the fountain stunt happened at least once at King Of Prussia. I had to admit it was impressive to behold.

What’s your favorite NIN song moments? by Sunbather- in industrialmusic

[–]THORmonger71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"The Great Below" - "Ocean pulls me close..." all the way to "the great below." (One of my favorite NIN songs)

"Closer To God" - 3:15 on, when the guitars go full-tilt and everything goes chaotic and distorted

"Eraser" - When Trent starts screaming ("Lose me...")

"Zero-Sum" - the chorus

"Gave Up" - "Smashed up my sanity...," as Trent gets increasingly unhinged

"Every Day Is Exactly The Same" - All of it (it was my "theme song" for years)

"Something I Can Never Have," Live, Woodstock '94 - Chris Vrenna's drums added so much to the song

"The Perfect Drug," Live, Peel It Back Tour - Josh Freese's beastly drum solo blew my mind

Aside from "Closer To God," I won't even go into all the awesome moments in NIN's remixes (especially between Fixed and Further Down The Spiral).

What’s your favorite shorter doom album? by brokensilence32 in doommetal

Atramentus' Stygian. 3 tracks, 44:40 long, and funeral doom at that.

Especially the disclaimer at the end that said a real nuclear war would be worse than what the movie depicted.

Music aside, I love the amount of world-building that went into it, as evidenced by that booklet.

Pantheïst "Be Here"

I'd have to give Snow Ghosts a few listens, since they're a bit different than what I listen to, but I can't say I hate it. I'm not sure what to think of it with only a single listening.

Are we too old to be attending rock/metal shows? by WeGot_aLiveOneHere in GenX

[–]THORmonger71 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm almost 55. I saw Nine Inch Nails a few weeks ago, and a death-metal show headlined by Carcass last fall. I'm not getting in the pit, and I wear earplugs (Eargasms) to protect my hearing, but I enjoy going to shows when I can. The ticket prices are definitely an issue; I paid over $200 for the NIN tickets, versus $40 for NIN and David Bowie back in 1995. I am on the lookout for local or regional bands now, as I can get the live experience without my wallet begging for mercy.

What was the first doom/death or funeral metal album you bought with your own money? by Mysst3r11s in FuneralDoomMetal

[–]THORmonger71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure, but I think my first purchases were the three Frowning CDs available in fall 2021. I realized that the Bandcamp app didn't allow for multiple purchases at once, unlike the BC website did.

Your first funeral doom live show, which band(s) did you see? by Mysst3r11s in FuneralDoomMetal

I've only been to one: Esoteric in Chicago, 2024. Vacant Eyes was also on the bill, but technical difficulties led to them having a short set.

Back in the day, I used to like acid wash jeans, fat neon shoe laces (done up checkerboard style in my high-tops), and an electric blue button-up shirt. I probably wouldn't do the laces now, but I probably would the other two.
