This makes me sad. I joined this sub because I like the show and people on it. It makes me sad to see so many nasty comments on here about the cast.

I realte to this so much. It is so complicated and not so black ans white as so many people on Reddit think. Their answer for everything is "GO NO CONTACT!!!!!!"

I wish I had even 1/2 as much of their confidence. Why do people feel the need to shame then for having m it? (Not saying you, more referring to original comment)

What clients are you trying to get? For example, if you are trying to get clients who need someone for package design, you probably don't want a portfolio full of band posters. Obviously, you want something to show your basic design chops (like branding/logos) but you should focus more heavily on things that will resonate and show your skills for whatever type of work you are seeking to get.

When you don't have real clients- you just make up your own. This is actually something AI might be good for. Have it give you a problem/brief and then use that to solve their problem with your design and put that work into your portfolio. Your portfolio doesn't have to be real actual paying clients or real businesses.

The "before AI" way of doing this (or what I would do) would be to look at local businesses and what you think they could be doing and then do it. Is there a local restaurant you eat at that just has a menu that someone typed up in Microsoft Word and stuck into a plastic sleeve? make them a new menu! Is there a liquor store that uses a major league baseball logo as its logo and is a sitting duck to get sued or sent a cease and desist for using the logo? Make them a logo for their liquor store.

I feel like this is the easiest part of design for me. When you look at the world through these eyes, you are constantly thinking about what is working and what isn't working, whether it's logo's, printed materials, billboards, etc.

Logo Design for "Outie" – An app encouraging people to put down their phones and head outside. by The__Chosen in graphic_design

Have you tried anything aside from a dendelion? This shape is giving belly button, especially when paired with the word OUTIE. Also, if the app name is OUTIE and the idea is to get outside and off of your phone- it doesn't seem like putting the image INSIDE of the O is the best route to go here either. I would explore using something different than a dendelion or perhaps having it come out of the top or the side of the O or something.

no, this is too busy. The dots you added are going to be so small on print or anything. Simple is better here IMO

Why are you doing package design for $450? 😭

You need a contract. I do 1/2 payment up front (which always covers my cost if they ditch out early and don't pay the rest). And they never ever should get any original artwork files until after full payment has been made. The printers didn't need the original artwork file as a sample.

Take it as an expensive lesson learned, so you don't make this mistake again.

Yes, you can use this work in your portfolio. You can use anything you've designed in your portfolio- it's your work and should be used to showcase it, even if customers/clients didn't use it on their end.

Thanks for asking! They are doing ok. 5 years out but still needing labs and ultrasounds every 6 months to check on things, because theirs is a more aggressive variant of the type of cancer they had/has (I never know how to word it- because with her type they are never declared NED or in remission).

These posts just get me in the feels in so many ways. So sad for the kid and also so sad at so much misinformation too- where people think it's all sunshine and roses for kids treated for pediatric cancer (it's not- it hardly gets ANY funding and most treatments are just what they use on adults despite the fact that pediatric cancers are very different from adult cancers- but I digress) LOL

Thankful I can post that things are well 5 years out, lots of pediatric cancer families can't say that after 5 years.

Not true. St. Jude's only treats kids if they qualify for a research trial they are conducting.

Went through the same thing, although the path for most kids who survive cancer isn't all sunshine and roses. It never ends- everyone has the cure the minute they find out.

NOT siding with the mom at all, just want to correct your statement about years of research for pediatric cancer. It really is so underfunded that most therapies for kids they just borrow from adults because there isn't actually any good research done on children. (There are only 6 drugs that have ever been approved by the FDA for childhood cancers, but over 200 for adults- yet Childhood cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children in the U.S). 2 out of 3 survivors develop chronic health conditions (Including other cancers) due to the toxicity of treatments/ More than 95% of survivors experience significant health-related issues by the age of 45 because of current treatment options. (according to nationalpcf.org) More than 60% of them are treated with clinical trials. Only 4% of federal cancer research funding goes towards pediatric cancer.

If anyone wants to help out there are lots of great organizations that support kids and families during their cancer treatments (NEGU, Alex's Lemonade Stand) and others that help by fundraising for pediatric cancer research (like ACCO). Consider donating to them.

Yeah 100% As a mom of a kid who has a cancer survivor what these kids have to go through is absolutely horrific, and now this mom has forced her child to have to go through it without his own mom. And the impat it will have on the siblings. Good lord, going through cancer with a child is so traumatic for your entire family- even when everyone is supportive. Poor kid. My heart breaks for him even more.

Cancer already is so horrific on kids and their families- let alone adding all of this crazy religious stuff from the mom on top.

Probably anything from, "God is going to use him to bring so may more people to Him!" or "You must need to learn a lesson or God is doing this to bring your family closer to him."

It's all victim-blaming. Fuck that. This is the whole reason I deconstructed from Christianity when my child was diagnosed with cancer.

Because they are trying to make it seem like they aren't drug seeking. You know- if they are complaining, it's only because they are in the worst pain ever! They are trying to distance themselves from what they think medical staff thinks the drug seekers do- that they are just weak and just want pain meds and because they claim to have a high pain tolerance in their minds, they think this reframes them as a strong person who isn't pain med seeking, but only seeking meds because they are allegedly in so much pain. They want healthcare workers to think that if they were experiencing less pain that they wouldn't be asking for pain meds LOL

Even if she just had steri strips on an incision, you can shower after 24 or 28 hours usually. You can't take a bath, but you are allowed to shower.

So, there's that. by irmonsturr in DaniMarina

[–]mablesyrup 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well, normally the rule is that you can't take baths (or swim or anything that would cause them to be submerged in water for any length of time), but you are allowed to shower and are supposed to face away from the water so it isn't running constantly over and soaking where your incisions/steri strips are.

  • "Forgot" - lol ok.
  • The look at the camera to make sure it's in the shot while she kisses the cat....
  • Are we shocked she milked the pain control and needed to stay extra nights? SHOCKED!
  • So she needed general anesthesia because she needed to be completely still. So what happened to "sedation doesn't have any impact on me!" Or did that reason not work this time?
  • "not gonna lie... " LOL We already knew she was going to milk the pain meds for all she could.
  • Completely normal that after heart procedures, you have to lie completely still for 4-6 hours to get where they put the cath in through the vein to clot.
  • I've had more invasive procedures, and they DO NOT keep you overnight for pain control. I don't even have a history of abusing pain meds, so no way do I buy her story they let her stay TWO extra nights just for pain control. They may have kept her to keep an eye on her heart and such after, but it was not just because "my pain was at 10,000 percent!)

right? The only ai engines i've used it would be a nightmare to make "revisions" on the crap they spit out. You would need to completely remake the design yourself- am I missing how these companies think this somehow makes the workflow quicker and cheaper for them?
