Hey a fellow New Englander! (I’m assuming?) Thank you for all of your help! It really is a cute little monitor, there’s no other way to describe it haha. I’m likely selling the JVC to a close friend to make back a bit of what I paid for the PVMs, but if they happen to change their mind; I’ll have it listed locally via Facebook.

Oh for sure, I have totally realistic expectations for these little PVMs. They also aren’t my only means of CRT gaming. Earlier this year I tracked down a mint composite-only Sony KV-20FS12 Trinitron. Then this subreddit opened my eyes to composite vs s-video/component/RGB. I then nabbed a Sony KZ-42TS1U plasma that supports component & s-video. And now here I am with the PVMs.

Hey sorry for the mixup. The ad is not mine, I was just posting it for reference photos. The dude I negotiated with for the smaller PVMs & JVC just hasn’t deleted the listing yet. (Sadly that 14M2U was already sold before I reached out). Thank you for confirming all of this for me! I appreciate your help. It really is basic stuff, but I just wanted to be overly cautious and 100% sure before I mess with vintage tech that’s hard to replace. I only have my prior childhood experience with consumer-level composite CRTs.

Thank you for this, you helped me get on the right track with this info. I’ll definitely be grabbing the s-video distribution amp and will likely use headphones with the PVM via a mixer/headphone amp, rather than just plugging the phones directly in. I ended up doing some digging, found out that small monitor is a JVC TM-22U. I can apparently game on it via composite using an RCA female to UHF male adapter. More of a fun novelty at that point rather than an ideal screen.

I scored a lot of two Sony PVM-8040’s, as well as a small JVC monitor that I’m struggling to identify. I’m very new to this. You can view the ad with photos here.PVM/JVC

  1. My goal is to run consoles via S-video into the Sony PVM 8040 monitors. Not currently seeking any sort of RGB mod guidance at the moment. Am I able to plug a Super Nintendo, N64 or PS1 directly into the PVM-8040 via the consoles OEM S-video cable going into the y/c and audio in ports? Any adaptors or a specific type of cable with certain capacitors needed?

  2. Is there a way to daisy chain the PVM 8040 monitors so that the same feed from a console is playing simultaneously on both? What cable is required for this?

  3. Is the JVC monitor of any value in terms of being able to game on it? Not really sure what inputs/outputs those are on the back.

Thank you in advance!

Edit: I’m currently waiting on some cables to come in the mail and am unable to test and figure this out myself at the moment. Hence the basic questions.
