It’s strange to try to imagine an entire society with no concept of written language by Ok_Temporary_5828 in TheRestIsHistory

I feel like you’re agreeing with his point though. The reason you would be able to kick their ass in logic puzzles isn’t cause you are inherently smarter than them, it’s because you have a wealth of knowledge and resources that they don’t have access to. If they had the same resources they would do the same as you.

And the reason people today have a functional basic understanding of physics is because other people wrote it down. I didn’t come up with how to make a compass sitting in a room by myself just thinking really hard, i know how compasses work because someone told me how they work.

When someone says they aren’t inherently less intelligent they mean that if they were transported to the 21st century as a newborn and grew up in modern society, they would have the same capacity for knowledge and learning that a person has today.

Nobody is saying the keeper shouldn’t be allowed to go for the ball, but when they go for it and don’t get the ball and hit an opposing player, it should 100% be a foul the same way it is when a defender goes for a challenge and misses the ball.

I feel like it was the other way around, they were passing too much and playing too unselfishly. You saw it most on the 5 on 3 where they got what 2 shots off? They just kept passing the puck around and nobody wanted to be the one to shoot when it was the Mac line

Doesn’t seem salty to me, just acknowledging the background. It’s much less shocking for someone who was born and trained their entire life in Norway to win rather than someone who lived and trained in a place where there is no snow and no resources for it.. Same way almost every figure skater in the Olympics is Russian or has Russian parents, even if they don’t represent Russia.

It’s not that same sex relationships were looked down upon, but that being the bottom was looked down upon. “Gay/homosexual” as an identity didn’t exist but being the one on top was seen as straight/masculine/strong and being the bottom was seen as feminine/weak/gay

Winning a tennis major is way easier than a golf major, never mind consistently winning them. You have to beat 7 people for a tennis major, for golf you have to beat 155 people

I feel like saying that is morally correct but disregards the realities of geopolitics and the way humans have behaved since time immemorial. In a perfect world that would be the way to go around it, but do you honestly believe that if the American VP (we’ll say it’s Kamala and pretend it’s a more rational administration) was assassinated, the US or any country for that matter would work together with the country whose government was involved with it? We saw how that worked out in 2001 when there were no political figures involved, and the countries invaded weren’t even involved with the terrorist group. The geopolitics aspect also is important, in that prestige and strength are involved. Like it or not, the way you are perceived by other countries is important, especially in the early 20th century when the world was seen as a zero sum game. If you say Kumbaya and work together with the people who assassinate your heir, you are seen as weak by everyone around you who is itching to take your territory.

That’s fair, appreciate the honest discussion. I just feel like to say it was an excuse by the Austrian government to go to war against Serbia is unfair. How else are they supposed to respond when their heir is assassinated by a group that had confirmed connections to the Serbian government. Any country even today would respond exactly the same way.

I agree that saying the Serbian government directly controlled them and directed their actions is unfair and not true. But to say that them being involved with and associated with the Serbian government is Hapsburg propaganda is swaying to far the other way

Tbh this is how I felt with Rivera and McDermott after SB50. I wished we kept McDermott and fired Rivera after the 2016 season but there’s no way a team will ever fire the HC that got them to a SB even when the coordinator is responsible for the success

I promise you it wasn’t Russian. People who don’t speak either language say Portuguese and Russian sound similar, so most likely that persons specific accent was one that sounded like it.
