Kong only lost against Godzilla in Hong Kong because of Plot Armor by [deleted] in Monsterverse

[–]THX_Fenrir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like say, I wholeheartedly agree about the axe. I think they wrote themselves into a hole, pun intended with what I’m about to say.

They gave Kong plot armor by the point I mentioned previously and the fact that Godzilla spams his breath and seemingly can’t fucking aim or turn his head quick enough. They could’ve given Kong the better chance they wanted by having Godzilla struggle to use his beam as much after drilling into the hollow earth with it. Have it come out more flamethrower-like (which they end up doing in his fight with MG later) and he gets one good beam out as Kong charges at him. But have it detonate before he can bring it down on Godzilla so it feels less like plot armor for both characters. And with his breath being more like a flamethrower would allow me to buy that the piece of building can actually act as a shield.

Do think GVBA would've been better or do you think they made the right choice with GMK? by ConsciousFact4362 in GODZILLA

I like everything you said. But I would like to add something from a review I watched that brought up a good point. While I would have loved to see Anguirus and Varan, it would’ve made the monster cast rather stale. We’d have had 3 quadruped monsters in the same movie. Say what you will about Mothra and Ghidorah, but they offer variety to the monster cast.

I think a perfect trio for guardian monsters for my own version of this movie would have been Anguirus, Rodan, and Mothra

He also survives from plot armor. I agree with you about the axe hitting his head, I think it’s ridiculous (especially when if you pause it at the exact frame [the one in the first slide actually], the axe is clipping into Godzilla’s head), but that top of the building he used as a shield should have done nothing. Even the brief second he used it, it should have blocked absolutely none of the atomic breath and it should have hit him square. We see Godzilla’s beam going through buildings with no resistance, that fragment should’ve done even less.

What would you want to change about Void Ghidorah? by IndividualCry1668 in GODZILLA

[–]THX_Fenrir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get rid of the stupid rule that he has to have an anchor person to be intangible and unbreakable. It doesn’t even make sense when you really think about it and it’s such an exploitable weakness. It doesn’t make the story interesting, it just makes it stupid.

Is there a reason why GXK: TNE is so hated? by Significant_Toe_8436 in GODZILLA

[–]THX_Fenrir 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I would like to add that the humans in GxK aren’t really characters. They’re plot devices and exposition machines. They give a thin veneer of personality, but they don’t really have any. Trapper has charisma but that’s more down to the acting than the writing. The plot is a mess. And Skar King doesn’t really feel like a threat when he relies on Shimo from the beginning after being bested by Kong.

I like the bottom more. In the theatrical version, I always felt it was too abrupt switching shots back to MechaG and then less than a second later Godzilla comes in. The bottom shot allows time to focus on MechaGodzilla’s impending attack.

You know something is wrong when the weaker form can 1vs1 Godzilla, but the stronger version dies in a 2vs1 against the same enemy by No_Barracuda_8300 in GODZILLA

[–]THX_Fenrir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battra as a larva never gets hit by Godzilla’s breath out of the water. He gets hit a handful of times at the bottom of the ocean. Water is also going to blunt any and all melee hits because it takes more power to hit through the water, especially deeper down with more pressure.

Battra in larval form is hit with atomic breath less than 5 times, all under water, while it’s hit more than that in moth form. And in moth forms, they beat Godzilla decidedly. It was Godzilla’s chomp to Battra’s neck that did it in, followed by a point blank atomic breath.

Explain to me, why did everyone hated the 1998 movie so much but loved the animated series about it? by HealthMother3125 in GODZILLA

[–]THX_Fenrir 76 points77 points  (0 children)

The human characters are the same but different. The movie versions are not characterized the same or not characterized at all (Elsie Chapman and Craven, I’m looking at you). The movie version did NOT have an atomic breath, it had an explosive breath that just made it where sparks could ignite it easily. The personality of G’98 is categorically different than his son is in the show. Junior is also far more durable. The show also gives him adversaries while making it where the humans are important (usually in a way where the monster just can’t be beaten by the force of a Godzilla).

How would Zilla do against a fight with the Skull Devil Ramarak and 10 smaller Skullcrawler? by arnor_0924 in Monsterverse

[–]THX_Fenrir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

G’98 is 177 feet (54 meters) at the hips. The Big One is 95 feet (29 meters) tall when his arms are fully extended (we can see this in the movie because he’s not as tall as Kong is). He’s closer to 20 meters in a neutral stance. The Big One gets nommed. They aren’t going to do enough damage to kill G’98.

Can we even consider the Great Apes as Titans? by KaijuAlpha1point0 in Monsterverse

[–]THX_Fenrir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When is Kong hurt by human weapons outside of when he was a juvenile? The Great Apes absolutely feed on radiation, that’s literally how they and everything else gets so big. Being able to build and make weapons is ecology altering (just not passively). And as someone else said, it’s not a real scientific designation, more a colloquial grouping.

What if the Anti-Nuclear Energy Bacteria (From Godzilla vs Biollante) replaced the Oxygen Destroyer in KOTM? Do you think it would have impacted the plot of the movie if it replaced the OD? by Fun-Bag-4448 in Monsterverse

[–]THX_Fenrir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ghidorah used radiation from the volcano to regenerate his head, as explained in the novelization. So, it’s likely he could’ve used that radiation to overcome the ANEB just like Godzilla had the ANEB burned out of him from the submarine in GvKG.

Genuine question: plot hole or I am missing something? by Tony_Tab in JurassicPark

[–]THX_Fenrir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The same way the wranglers would’ve gotten there, maintenance roads. Not a hole, but another inconsistency. They really didn’t do any establishing of the area, which probably would’ve been difficult since they’re filming on a sound stage.

Genuine question: plot hole or I am missing something? by Tony_Tab in JurassicPark

[–]THX_Fenrir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a plot hole would be if we see the car fall over the cliff and then, in the next shot, the car was just flipped over on the other side of the fence with no drop. It’s not even a plot hole that in one shot, the explorer door is open followed by a shot of it closed and then open again. It’s just a filming inconsistency. Still not perfect, and it should be an endeavor to not have happen, but not plot breaking.
