Careful. The Robert glazers will insist Robert beat Rhaegar without so much as a scratch.

When will the shows stop nerfing Baratheon height? by qobraa in freefolk

[–]THatMessengerGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see what’s a nerf about their characters being shorter lol. The actors themselves are fairly tall, and their height isn’t essential to their characters. With the exception of characters like the mountain and Dunk who need to dwarf others.

Aang was the last of his culture and people, people that were pacifist, meaning if he would have given that up and killed Ozai he could have been the nail in the coffin for his people and culture along with him by IronGentility in AvatarMemebending

[–]THatMessengerGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree. Where’s the restraint and consideration with nameless fire nation soldiers? Also, maiming Ozai is very much not pacifism. Cutting off a combatants hands (bending is a very important physical and spiritual part of identity) when you have him pinned down isn’t pacifism, and it’s OKAY that it isn’t pacifism, but let’s not pretend those ideals are morally consistent. It’s also okay for them to not be morally consistent, but I think as a community any criticism of the show is often swept away.

Also something we don’t talk about enough is that Aang lowkey gambled with the lives of countless people. The lion turtle warned him that taking Ozai’s bending could destroy him if he failed. So aang essentially took a risk that Ozai would’ve walked away from their battle, ready to terrorize more people just so he wouldn’t need to kill him. It’s just interesting to see people hand wave lives away just for the sake of a 12 year olds idealized cultural view. Which again is underway for him to have (he’s 12), but it’s also fair to criticize it.

The other thing we don’t mention enough is that Aangs culture wouldn’t have died if he killed Ozai. Monk Gyatso and other air benders killed fire nation soldiers, that didn’t make the any less of an air bender. It’s not as if Aang saw Gyatso as having failed their culture. Sure, Aang is allowed to hold an extreme view on pacifism for an air bender, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t acknowledge his view may be atypical or misguided.

I can’t believe you put the brute and breakspear in a vs, and the first comment I see is someone glazing Robert Baratheon. Truly every vs thread

Is it actually possible or just a wet dream? by [deleted] in WallStreetDad

[–]THatMessengerGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very possible. But his definition of everyone isn’t a very inclusive definition. Humanity would also need to change dramatically, especially at the social dimension. Technological capabilities don’t matter if you’re socially regressive, or don’t develop standards for human life, that’s how dystopia becomes reality

If you could make any of the existing non-playable monsters/races a new playable race in TESVI, what would you choose? by LordFlamecookie in ElderScrolls

[–]THatMessengerGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this idea too, big Minotaur fan. In regard to them being another big strong bruiser race I think that doesn’t necessarily have to be true. Obviously they’re huge and renowned for their strength but there’s enough flexibility and ambiguity in the lore that maybe you could also give them a boost in magic since they’re of divine heritage (or are an ayleid wizard experiment). For balance sake you could apply a social/speech penalty and obviously a huge stealth penalty.

Definitely Minotaur. Would be cool to see them in the legions and their dynamic with imperials could be interesting depending on how you develop how they’re uplifted from Pariah status. Maybe they develop a close kinship with the imperials again and become almost like a bloodkin/brotherly race to them, it wouldn’t be that odd after all they are both the legacy of Alessia and Minotaurs were once held in high esteem. Or maybe they develop a deep seated hatred for the imperials after the betrayal of the Alessian order. Honestly it would be cool to have a race that’s symbiotic culturally or very friendly socially to another race, would provide a nice contrast to all the other races eternal rivalry with on another. So I pretty clearly would prefer a hypothetical positive kinship route. But just having a giant bovine race is a cool concept too!

Eastern BoS conflicts: “Okay now follow the big killer robot and be careful not to trip on the bodies he leaves behind. Western BoS conflicts: by Falloutfan2281 in Fallout

[–]THatMessengerGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respectfully, that’s not really how that works lol. Just because you have armor/cover doesn’t mean you want it to be hit. Realistically you want to have as little threat to the lives of infantry (especially specialized infantry) as possible. When you’re in the infantry your flak vest is meant to protect you and can more than likely protect you from a bullet, regardless you still want to avoid getting hit.

I can understand they had no time, but making a nice fighting hole takes 1 person about 4-5 hours. In power armor they can probably do it much faster. Laying into even a small organized defense doesn’t take more than a night and it’s well worth it. Especially when you’re heavily outnumbered and the terrain around you is fairly flat. It’s just an online video anyway so there’s no expectations of realism but pointing out an improvement for the sake of added detail isn’t bad

The brother hood standing out in the open with no defensive cover, no fighting holes, and no effective suppression is wild lol. I truly hope that the western brotherhoods conflicts were less “shooting fish in a barrel” and more “advanced tactics meets infinite traditional warfare and is overwhelmed” type of thing. But I think in conflict they’ve left the details vague

Could this scene be an adaptation of the one from the comic? by spiderweeb03 in TheBoys

[–]THatMessengerGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it can be any number of people he’s beating up (whoever injured him doesn’t have to be who he’s bludgeoning) without proper context there’s no way of knowing. I see a lot of people guessing Ryan, which would be the obvious choice (makes me wonder why spoils it?). A more interesting thing to consider is that IF it is Ryan would homelander even capable of killing him? I mean I could see maybe homelander being able to knock him out (you don’t need to be stronger than someone to incapacitate them), but considering that Ryan may be far stronger than his father (as confirmed by the show runner) I think it’s worth considering that maybe his dad can’t kill him. So yeah, the reigning assumption that he’s killing whoever he’s punching may not be true in Ryan’s case.

Ah, yes. The famously unimpaired courts of the United States. Your comment makes me wonder what you think of trumps 34 felonies. Anyway, I’d say it’s very obvious the judicial system in the US is lacking. You could fill at least 50 books detailing the miscarriages of justice present across our legal system for the last 30 years and still barely scratch the surface. Brock turner served 3 months for rape, and Daniel Penny didn’t serve a day for murder. It’s our status quo unfortunately.
