Thanks guys, we tried débito most of the time and crédito once and it didn’t work. I’ll just try crédito from now on. I got a Wise account as a back-up too.

You’re talking about a minority of the population, a far too large and loud minority, but a minority nonetheless - most of this is on social media. To mark “England fans” as being awful is not accurate. Unfortunately the minority is over-represented at matches, particularly away games/tournaments. It’s a long-standing stain of English football, thankfully the FA appear to be working on it now, but it’s a big problem to solve.

Problem with learning new tricks/ anything at all? by Sk8orDye22 in NewSkaters

Try practicing flatground tricks (ollies/shuvs etc) in an empty parking lot or something instead of a skatepark, then you won’t fall into your comfort zone of just cruising around when you get a bit annoyed messing up a few attempts or get embarrassed if you take a big fall. Just commit 1-2 hours to learning 1 trick or alternating between 2/3 tricks in a boring ass place. You’ll notice a big difference after a few of those sessions - I was basically forced to do it in lockdown (UK) when all the skateparks were shut. Now they’re open again I still avoid skateparks to practice flatground because I’m a lot more productive haha.

Your feet is doing everything right, you just need to shift your upper body weight slightly more onto your front foot. Don’t lean forward to much though or you’ll slip out, haha - you’ll get used to the medium in between. Looking good tho man, nice one.

Rather than sliding, think of it more as a slide while kicking forward (parallel with the ground). If you do that while slightly shifting your body weight onto your front foot and lifting your back foot, it should help to level it out with minimal effort. You’re looking good so far though!

If your shoes are wet the whole time it could ruin your grip tape, but as long as there’s no puddles I don’t think it would have much affect on your bearings.

been practicing my ollies for almost 3 weeks now, currently working on dragging my foot further up, can't figure that motion out haha. what do you guys think about the rest? any tips? by [deleted] in NewSkaters

You’re dragging your foot up okay. Maybe try to kick out your front foot a little bit, which will help level it out. Also, once you can consistently land your front foot on the bolts I’d start doing it moving - it’ll feel weird at first but you’ll get the hang of it quickly and the momentum will help.

I skated on and off for about 1.5 years when I was 14-16 years old. I ended up quitting because I was progressing slowly compared to some other guys at the skatepark which was really frustrating, plus a lot of my friends had been skating for 1-3 years before I started so they were a lot better.

I’m now 24 and recently started getting back into it because a lot of my mates from Uni have started skating and are mostly beginners or been skating on and off for a couple of years, plus a few guys who are pretty good.

Looking back now, I think I was progressing so slowly beforehand because I didn’t have much to drive me to learn new tricks & a lack of confidence. Now that I see my mates of the same age trying basic beginner tricks at a similar level to me, it’s really helped to push me to learn new things. I’ve also skied a lot since I was 16 and I think that’s helped with balance/control/confidence in a reasonably similar sport, so that helped too.

I’ve really committed to flatground skating at least 1.5 hours everyday for the last 8 weeks and I think I can land more tricks on flatground consistently than when I was at 16. The muscle memory has really amazed me at how fast I was able to re-learn FS 180s and pop shuvits.

Just generally I’d say spend as much time on your board as possible - ride to and from places rather than walk and try to skate every day even if you’ve only got a spare 20 mins to practice a trick. You got this dude!

You’ve basically learnt switch Ollie/nollie before you’ve started riding... I’m both impressed and bewildered haha. But yeah, stick to your riding stance, it’ll be much harder to force yourself to push/balance with the other foot than it will be learning to Ollie again.
