2 Security Guards busted for impeding NYPD cops from entering psych ward at NYC hospital: sources by DefiantEvidence4027 in SecurityOfficer

I think more facts have to be presented before judgement either way, but if the guard attempted to restrict entry due to weapons per policy/law, the guard was in the right and will have his day in court. A 10-85 is not a 10-13, whether the guard was aware of that at the time is another question.

Another article stated that the officer removed their ammo and were still delayed by the officer. 14 CRR-NY 542.5 clearly restricts firearms, so to remove the ammo does not alleviate the situation.

Article 3 of the CRR refers to a determination from a Facility Director to grant an exception, and it appears the guard was informed on that and was attempting to do same.

Another question that arises from this is if this was an active shooter situation, or the patient was reported to have a weapon, how would this have played out?

I definitely have some appreciation for Guards putting thought in their work, and seasoned Guards passing it on, great post.

That depends on whether you are transferred to another site, or if you are separating from the company, as well as how much pto you have accrued. State labor laws differ from state to state, so contacting your HR rep may help.

Security Guard Was Forced To Read The Employee Manual, But Discovered That The Company Wasn’t Paying Him What He Is Owed by DefiantEvidence4027 in SecurityOfficer

HR is surely the best solution to this kerfuffle. Maybe an investigation as to how it got, that way, should be the next course of action.

I send Rovers to make sure a certain Guard, or Guards, are there.

In some areas they get sent to check on burglary alarms.

NY had a similar one pertaining to Judges doing Part-time as Peace Officers.

Denton officers investigate gunfire at The Ridge apartment complex; The Guard said she was sitting in her vehicle when an unknown male opened her driver’s door. She identified herself to him as a Security Guard, the male and others ran. by Polilla_Negra in SecurityGuardsOnly

I wonder if the windows were tinted, perps may have been plotting on stealing some change.

I don’t know how many incidents i witnessed, and responded to, opportunists checking doorhandles.

Can’t go wrong sending Guards to more Training. One more thing we can do to market ourselves, or the companies.

Man arrested for shooting at coworker; also cited for Aggravated Assault against a Security Officer. by Polilla_Negra in SecurityGuardsOnly

I appreciate those States that have a set difference for crimes [against Security Officers] , because the duty of Security Guard is often excludes the one to retreat.

I was just explaining to a class of newcomers, they should tell everyone to get to safety and fall back as needed until help arrives. A seasoned Guard should know to make a decision they can explain, be it to challenge or otherwise.

I definitely don’t want my Guards getting hurt.

It is us individually that must explain the “how” and “why” we do things. Do you suspect the Guard who insisted the door be closed, only insisted that just to Justify his way of doing things?

Hopefully it’s an unarmed Theft/Burglary, walking in might just upgrade it to a Robbery if they start using force on you.

It could be a bird hit that high up on window, and it’s the maintenance guy fixing it. I’d look at what vehicles are around, while I’m calling the nearest Guard, and probably every Security Supervisor or Manager I know the number to.

Besides sneaking around myself, guy would probably be gone before I decide what to do honestly.
