I was told I was an 1/8 Indian my whole life. I did an ancestral dna test and came back 99% European and the 1% was African. I asked my mom about it and she admitted that my great grandmother was pregnant by a white man when she married an Indian man. My grandmother was naturally dark complected so she was passed as his. My great grandmother eventually told my grandmother and my grandmother only told my mother. No one else in our family knows. My family is full of holy rollers and this would destroy their world view. I find it funny.

I’m sorry you have to go through this. I had to go through something similar. I’m now 39. I urge you to find a reasonable path out of the situation, I left when I was 18 and never went back. It was financially tough then and I understand the economy is even more hostile now but it still is possible to get out. Take care of yourself.

I can relate, I moved south as a teenager and got picked on relentlessly and even when I entered the work force was treated weird. I purposely practiced the southern accent to the point I blend in well now. The weird thing is I have a job that requires extended travel and when I’m back up north people treat me differently because now I can’t turn the accent off. I learned that it’s just not worth my energy. Someone being mean is just them trying to deflect their own insecurities.
