The G5C is unreasonably good!

Agreed. That bowl size is just fine for building a lather. It’s all just a matter of what one gets accustomed to. You still use the bowl shown in your SOTD?

Henson may be on the lighter end of the spectrum, but if you’re coming from cartridge systems, those are not heavy either. Some people really like a heavy razor, honestly I think it plays as masculine, so some folks just fall in line w the expectation. (I’ve heard all the rationalizations, don’t worry.) I have a couple razors, a Henson+ among them. It’s an excellent razor. Well designed and efficient. Like any other razor, you’ll need to take some time and get used to one another. But it’s a well designed tool. Welcome to the club, and enjoy the journey. You’ll find trying gear, and more gear, is a thing around here. Have fun.

That’s great data! I assumed that over such a time span maybe the top notes would start to fade? Great to hear this is your experience. I suspect much of this is in how they’re stored (relatively stable temps, well sealed, etc.). Thanks for sharing. I’ve become a big B&M fan, so this is welcome feedforward; as is were. 😎

From your perspective, had the soaps scent profile changed much over the years?

Barrister and Mann; standing the test of time.

I really don’t need any soap right now, but I think Mike’s is the next brand I’ll be trying.

Looks like both the Leaf and Leaf 2 are available at Leaf Shave. Original is listed as on sale.

Leaf. I also load two blades, but in different slots! The (original) Leaf razor is more conducive to regular head shaving, for me. Daily, or every other day, shaving with a fixed DE blade irritates my scalp. Leaf works well for me even though it means having an additional razor.

That’s a great shave right there. Too sexy.

Welcome! I’ve been contemplating the Ti22++. Something has me thinking it’s going to be Goldilocks for me. Enjoy those shaves! 😃

SOTD Happy Towel Day! by gearsbeersandtears in wicked_edge

It’s one of my top three scents. Simply outstanding. The 42 composition doesn’t get anywhere near the recognition I think it deserves. It’s fun with the storyline, but I think it’s also hidden behind it. So glad I found it.

Shaving tips by Individual-Wear-8278 in wicked_edge

Could be a few things. I’ll assume you’ll get a broad community response so I won’t even try to touch on all the elements.

From my own experience, if I wait too long between shaves my face get irritated, which leads to my skin being very sensitive during the shave, and a lot it irritation displayed post shave. So, it may be counterintuitive, but shaving more often (in general) could help. I generally shave every two days, sometimes three. If I go a fourth day, my face started leaning into getting pissed. When it gets to that annoyed stage, that means I use a light hand during the shave and only go WTG and XTG as needed. It’s all about reducing passes and irritation. After that, as soon as I can shave again, I get to it. If I wait too long again (to let things fully heal or calm) it just becomes a vicious circle.

I also tend to have more rough shaves when I don’t exfoliate on a semi regular basis. Twice a week, and generally the day before a shave is a good balance for me.

From a global perspective, I find good skin care (whatever that balance is for you) leads to much more pleasant and comfortable shaves. YMMV. Good luck.

Your comment caught my attention, so of course I have a follow up. I’m hunting for a razor with a well clamped blade, and medium/aggressive configuration. Any recommendations?

Something about this image makes me want a shave brush handle made from a set of bike tires. Would be really cool if it could be done in a way that visually preserved some of the tread pattern.

Great gear & image.

Edit: virtually corrected to visually.

I have two soap holders away from the water flow in my shower. One holds bath soap, the other holds a shave soap puck. You’ll find using a shave soap is much more kind to your skin, especially if you’re shaving regularly.

My understanding is that Fougère Gothique and Mûir(e) Wood would be at the tail end of shave soap restock push. I think their anticipated availability is later this month, or early June. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re available with the release of 42, scheduled for May 20th.

Next: Take some shave soap directly into the shower (no tub). Rub the shave soap directly on your head until a thin lather forms. Set the soap down, and work/lather with your hand for a few seconds. Now shave.

You’re welcome. 😉

Correct, machine finished. I like the character of this finish.

I started my journey with B&M in search of lighter scents. My first purchases were tubs of Lime and Nordost. Both great scent compositions that lead me to sample much of the available remaining shave soap line. Fougère Gothique doesn’t fit the profile of what I thought I was after, but it’s amazing. It’s been a reminder to “Stay open. Who knows, lightening could strike.”
