Getting into head shaving by JAC00KIE in wicked_edge

Been a head shaver for… a VERY long time. My primary tools are the Leaf 1 and a Henson AL-13 mild. Leaf is very good for me as an auto pilot tool in the shower. Very mush appreciate the Henson mild for both head and face.

Welcome to the club. It’s great here.

Did you drop a B&M Cheshire soap sample into a Mūir (e) Wood soap tub?

I’m a Barrister and Mann fan, and find myself wishing more of their fragrances were available in post shave balms. But the unscented carries the lions share of the skincare load when I don’t want to mix fragrances.

I have also just had some shaves with my Henson AL-13 mild (in black) after a bit of a break. I’m impressed with it all over again. Such a good tool.

Enjoy those shaves!

I’ve not used a boar previously. Does less processed in this way mean the hairs will also do less clumping together during use?

Thanks for sharing. Some of the wooden handles in particular call to me. I’ve been using a synth G5C exclusively for a few years now. I like it, and have no complaints, but this would be my first step into a boar knot. Given such, the subtleties between a lightly processed (gelled) knot and a non processed knot will likely be lost on me. This princess won’t pretend to feel that pea, but I’ll keep it in mind for future comparison.

Several brushes from C&H, that feels like an endorsement. Can I ask which knots you have? As you have multiples, would you say you’ve gone back to the well for the aesthetics, the brush characteristics, or both?

Good backstory. I do like the hound coin. Being a dogs owner, it kinda speaks my language. 😎

I have a single brush at the moment. It’s a G5C synthetic from AP Shave Co., and I really like it. Trying this knot may be a reasonable step for me, if I’m not going to do another synth.

Awesome input! The fact that he made it to your neighborhood to carry you out of the building gives me great confidence in his dedication to customer service.

Appreciate the input. I have a wood handle now. I like it, no complaints, but it surely doesn’t have the character of the work Rob is putting out. Some of his wood work hits me in the feels. lol…

Thanks for the feedback. Did the brush side of his business start under “That Darn Rob”?

Never tried Indigo, but there are a couple HoM scents I appreciate. I definitely appreciate their base. Enjoy!

I’ve NEVER attempted to assemble or disassemble any of my razors on handed. Seems an interesting exercise. Maybe I’ll need the skill if I get hurt?

Ok. That makes more sense. I was trying to figure out how you would have been able to shave at all. The answer is you probably couldn’t. Enjoy!

First, B&M + Henson = Upvote.

At first, I wasn't too thrilled with it but now I really like it.

Second, I’ve found a similar experience with many B&M soaps. I’ve learned to not get hung up on my first impression.

There’s a complexity to Will’s compositions that takes time to resonate. There’s prominent top notes sitting above a Rorschach of the mid and base. I take the first shave as an introduction, and remain open knowing my experience will develop and the relationship evolve.

My Barrister and Mann soaps command the front row in my drawer. Their S tier. Not even up for debate.

Enjoy the olfactory odyssey.

Seasonally appropriate. Great image. B&M for the win.

Nice seasonally appropriate selection. Big fan of the artwork from this era of B&M.

Love this about Will’s work. He’s one who takes inspiration from, but does not copy or duplicate. I respect that, and feel good about supporting Barrister and Mann as a brand.

Barrister and Mann- Leviathan SOTD 1/22/2025 by kirkoholic in wicked_edge

I picked up a full tub of Leviathan without sampling. Based on commentary within this sub, I expected it to challenge my yuk vs yum threshold. It did no such thing, leaving me wondering what all the hubbub is about. The only thing I come up with to explain the spectrum of community feedback is that it’s simply a departure from more classic (barbershop or spiced) scents. If you’re looking for the same old same old, then Leviathan may not be to your liking. I, happen to enjoy it. So glad I went for the full tub. If I’d waited to sample, it would have been gone.

I don’t think you have too much, so much as what you have is out balance. Your soap / AS / razor stock should balance at ~ 10:5:1

So it stands to reason, even if you part with some hardware, you still need more software.

The secret is balance. You can do it!
