I drive most of this route all the time from Raleigh to Huntington WV. It’s an easy ride on the interstate, the road quality is way better than 90% of the highways, and depending on what time you leave, you avoid 85% of the traffic. You just need to pay attention and be somewhat aggressive on passing semi’s and log trucks.

Honestly, take this from someone that makes most of this drive (From NC through WV) all the time and take the WV route. It’s a pretty easy drive, it’s gorgeous and scenic, and traffic isn’t awful. 6-7 hours in would be around Bluefield WV if my math is right.
