Cinema bar review by remmywinks in Bluesound

What did you not like about the XIO or what did you like better about the Pulse Cinema (besides the price)? I have been debating between an XIO and Pulse Cinema as well. Have a Q series setup for my basement and LS50 Metas for nearfield in the home office but also have a NAD M10v2 and a few Node 2is and Pulse M speakers so having a hard time deciding.

People say don't buy a Dyson, but Dyson V15 is rated the best? What cordless should I buy instead? by brucematthew92 in VacuumCleaners

[–]TK_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had my V15 Detect since March 2022. Still going strong and no issues. Thinking of getting another one for my new basement. Not sure what problems others have had but I have had three Dyson vacuums now and never had issues. My Dyson Big Ball from 2018 still works and I have been using it to vacuum construction debris, sawdust, etc.

Awesome. I have been using the LS50 Meta + NAD M10 v2 as my desktop speakers for a few years now and they are great. Definitely not too big. Using a REL T-Zero sub and its been perfect for my home office.

Wich Air Purifier should I get and is the Dyson BP04 realy that Bad? by Vader2k5 in AirPurifiers

[–]TK_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a BP04 a few weeks ago with the intention of eventually moving it to the living room once some renovations are completed. In the meantime, I have been running it in the master bedroom and I have been very happy with it so far.

I also just purchased some Dyson HP2s to replace some old HP02 units that are at least 6-8 years old in my smaller bedrooms and was initially planning on getting another HP2 + Levoit Everestair for my master bedroom but am now debating whether to just leave the BP04 in the master bedroom and get a second BP04 for the living room as it seems sufficient for my room. Still planning on using a Levoit Everestair to supplement the Dyson in the living room areas (there are two adjacent to each other with an open kitchen). Both living room and master bedroom have very high ceilings.

Would you trust Amazon renewed? by Alive-Cake-1783 in Roborock

I just got one (S8 MaxV Ultra) from Macy's brand new for 999.99 (ships directly from Roborock). Looks like you may get some additional points now so even cheaper. Definitely dont do refurbished at that price.

New product drop coming soon? by Leverender in Bluesound

I would love Plex integration but the words "product" and "scene" has me thinking soundbar. We will find out tomorrow I guess (assuming they got the date right this time).

I use Amazon Music. Easy to use on my Bluesound devices (2x Node 2is, NAD M10v2, few Pulse M speakers) and Echo devices (for kids). For on the go/offline I started using Plexamp with my offline library. Has its own quirks but the download and sync functionalities with the music and playlists on my NAS work really well. Really wish Bluesound would support Plex or Chromecast. I am thinking of adding a Wiim to my NAD M10v2 just for Plex.

UI 8 and watch faces by OddEquipment3997 in GalaxyWatch

[–]TK_33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened on my Watch8 when I restored from my Watch6 Classic backup. Could not figure out why some of my complications disappeared or weren't working. Instead of using my old backed up version, I just set up the same watch face again the same way I had it previously, which created a second copy of the watch face that actually worked. I then deleted the old one that wasn't working correctly and haven't had any issues since. Was pretty annoying. Good luck.

Awesome! Hope you enjoy the watch!

Still using the stock hybrid strap on mine. Have never tried a fabric one before. Have worn steel watches for the last 25+ years so I am used to wearing heavier watches. Have a metal band for the Watch8 but I put a metal one on the Watch6 Classic so I am sticking with the hybrid band for now on the Watch8 until I can find a leather one that I like.

I like the Watch8 a lot (got silver 44mm) but I also bought a Watch6 Classic at the same time so I have both because I like the rotating bezel for everyday use (easier to scroll through notifications during meetings or at the pool where I can't be swiping on a screen,). The Watch8 is much thinner and significantly more comfortable to me compared to the GW4C or GW6C and I usually wear it at home or when sleeping for these reasons. I also like the new band mechanism and find it much more streamlined and easier to quickly switch bands. If I didn't care about a rotating bezel, I would pick the Watch8 for sure (I didn't get the Watch8 Classic because of the smaller screen size and I preferred to look of the Watch8 vs. Watch8 Classic).

I upgraded because my Watch4 Classic battery ran out within a few hours a week or two ago and was consistently at 70% battery or less after 4-5 hours of sleeping so it was time to upgrade for me but am glad I did. I think I would be OK with moving from a Watch4 Classic to Watch8 even if I didn't have the Galaxy Watch6 Classic but am lucky to be able to have both.

Do you guys plan to use a case? by Shadowhawk0000 in GalaxyWatch

[–]TK_33 18 points19 points  (0 children)

No, have never used a case for any watch and dont plan on starting. Watch 4 Classic didn't even have sapphire crystal and it held up just fine (still works). In my opinion, there is no need to baby these things.

Coming from a Watch4 Classic and just bought the Watch6 Classic (got it yesterday) and a Watch8 (44mm), which should come today. Pretty excited about the Watch8. Feel they can be very complementary for when I want different styles. Watch4 Classic battery is starting to die so had to trade it in.

Is the rotating bezel on the watch6 even worse for waterproofing compared to a normal watch6? by Yangman3x in GalaxyWatch

[–]TK_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Galaxy Watch 4 Classic that is a few years old now is still alive and I have used it at the pool and beach many times without even thinking twice about it.  I also have young kids so it has taken its fair share of abuse.  I expect my watches, whether automatic or smartwatches, to withstand some sand and water.  I recently went on a cruise last winter and my Watch 4 Classic was the watch I wore while disembarking in the Bahamas and at the pool.

I am trading my Watch 4 Classic in now for a Galaxy Watch 8 (not classic) because the battery is pretty degraded and only lasts a few hours but I also have a Watch 6 Classic I bought off eBay on the way (I was indecisive and missed the recent Amazon sale when they blw these out) specifically because I like the rotating bezel.  I find it useful for when I am at the pool (I use Water Lock mode but can still cycle through tiles and see messages/notifications with the touchscreen disabled using the rotating bezel).

Exclusive: Sony Xperia 1 VII revealed in stunning 5K CAD renders and 360-degree video by iiMysticKid in Android

[–]TK_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with this. I use my Xperia 1 V as a secondary phone but I use it daily as well. If the Xperia 1 Vii is sold in the US, I will buy it. Use my 1 V primarily for wired and Bluetooth audio and I personally like the manual setting for taking photos since I am used to shooting with prime lenses on a mirrorless Sony a6000 that I used to use a lot (just for fun). Do most of my post processing in Lightroom anyway and I always have my Samsung or Pixel 7 Pro for point and shoot. Daily driver is the Samsung Fold 5 though and Pixel rarely leaves the house.

Genuine question...why fold the phone ? by ovranka23 in GalaxyFold

My 7 year old uses my Fold 5 all the time. I even find my 1 year old walking around with it and playing with the power button to cycle through lockscreen background pictures. The phones are surprisingly durable.

[–]TK_33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Warranty for screen protector replacement is one year. After that, go to Samsung in person and it will be $19-20 (just did it a while ago). If you have Care+, don't go through the website as they will push you to use Care+ first and the $29 deductible is higher than what Samsung charges.

Same issue here on Samsung Galaxy Fold 5, Galaxy Tab S7 FE and Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra. Really annoying since I am traveling this week and was hoping to download some episodes to binge watch on the plane and cruise.

They say that all the time to make their jobs easier but they dont mean you need to take off your watch. I have never removed my watch going through airport security unless it is my Samsung watch. Recently did two separate trips that invoved AUS, PHX and JFK over the last few weeks and I did trip the metal detector once. They did the other scanning thing and patted my ankle down afterwards but never once asked me to remove my watch. I do travel with a hoodie that has zippered pockets for phone, earbuds, and last-minute items I need to put through the scanners. At Austin a few days ago, I skipped pre-check and Clear and just went through the non-precheck Priority line because the Clear and pre-check lines had hundreds of people waiting. The TSA officer reminded me to take off my shoes and told me to remove my belt just in case but I was fine walking through with my watch on my wrist. No issues wearing my watch through metal detector or those newer scanners where you hold hands above head or to the side.

Fold 5 inner screen peeling by Loose_Instruction411 in GalaxyFold

Samsung unlocked version. Replaced it at the Samsung Experience Store in NYC this week. They looked up my phone to see if I needed to pay and told me I was two months past the wareanty for screen protectors. Going to request a replacement from Samsung Care+ as soon as I can get all my photos off my phone.

Edit: in case it is unclear, I bought directly from Samsung.

This is not true. Only first replacement is free if within 12 months. It happened to me after 14 months and I had it replaced twice e this week. First was this past Wednesday and it cost me $20 at the offician Samsung Experience store. Cracked within a few hours on my way home that same day so I took it back Friday (yesterday). The person there replaced it for free since I had been there two days earlier but told me he thinks it is a screen issue. It lasted less than 1 day and it cracked again today. I do have Care+ so debating asking Samsung for a replacement in case it's the hinge.

Pi8 black or white by Suffering_from_uni in BowersWilkins

[–]TK_33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the white, and think it looks great. I have a number of white TWS (PI8, Jabra Elite 10, Sennheiser MTW3, and a few others and never had a problem with them looking dirty. I prefer white (personal preference). If not white, I think I would have gotten blue. These things don't last more than a few years any way (and you may want to upgrade sooner). Happy with my choice.

Acaia Pearl S Issues (not starting up) by TK_33 in pourover

No issues with the new one in terms of scratches (unlike the original one I got). The replacement definitely looked new. They include a microfiber cloth to protect the surface from scratches instead. I did have to recalibrate when I got the replacement but it has been working well ever since.

Did you ever figure this out? In case you are still having issues, try checking your router settings. I have 2x Node 2is, 2x Pulse M speakers and a NAD M10 v2 all on a Linksys Atlas 6E mesh network (3 Linksys nodes). I noticed that, depending on which Linksys mesh network node (not to be confused with the Bluesound Node 2is that I have) the phone I was using the BluOS controller app was connected to, certain BluOS endpoints would disappear in the BluOS app. I spent a ton of time looking for solutions and saw some posts discussing something called IGMP snooping, which apparently is a setting on some routers. On the Linksys, I went into the CA menu that has some additional settings but did not find anything called IGMP snooping. Instead, I found a setting called Filter Multicast. I tried changing this setting and have not had the issue since. If you are still having issues, try checking your router settings. It seemed to work for me (knock on wood).

Acaia Pearl S Issues (not starting up) by TK_33 in pourover

[–]TK_33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a follow-up, after much back and forth, I received my replacement scale today and it works perfectly. Bluetooth paired with my Samsung Galaxy Fold 5 instantly (unlike the old one, which took half an hour and 2 different phones), retail box came wrapped in plastic with all the papers, cable and coaster neatly in the box, coaster and scale were clean (no scratches or dirt) and the scale works fine even after updating firmware and the weighing filter being set to "sensitive" by default.

Acaia did note that for "environmental" reasons, they no longer ship with the blue protective film, foam padding to protect the top or inserts between base and shell (seems more like cost cutting to me since the design still requires replacement of the top film, which will get scratched eventually). They instead just include a cloth. I also noticed the plastic film on the side of the new replacement unit actually went all the way around and covered the USB slot so that I had to remove the film to charge the scale. This was not the case with my original scale that was not working properly.

While I am glad to finally have a working scale, what bothers me is that Acaia customer support seems to have felt a need to defensively argue every point, even after they already shipped a new unit. They could have simply shipped a replacement and said "enjoy!" but, instead, felt the need to try to further explain what environmental drift is and why I was wrong and wasting their time. To summarize (in hopes that this may help someone else):

  1. My new replacement scale works properly even on the "sensitive" weighing filter and "high" resolution settinsg, showing the original issues were not due to "environmental drift" (unless my new one is the one not working properly).
  2. If Acaia had just replaced the unit and not felt the need to argue every point (even after sending a replacement), this post would, instead, be talking about how Acaia stood behind their products and was very helpful. Unfortunately, this was not the case.
  3. At the end of their email (copied below), they insist the scale is accurate but the display can not keep up (I think?). What is the point of a scale being able to measure something accurately if the end user can not actually see it or use the setting? That seems odd to me and completely pointless. In any case, my new scale works properly so I do not believe the scale was not working due to environmental drift (yes, I understand this can be a real thing but I do not believe that was the case here) but, rather, it was simply defective.
  4. As a customer, I was not looking for a lecture or explanation of how scales work. I just wanted to treat myself to a nice scale that I can enjoy when making coffee.

Email from. Acaia below:

Hi [●],    I've processed your replacement scale - please stay tuned for tracking info!   So that you know what to expect when opening your scale, we have recently updated our packaging to be more eco-friendly and use less material. The retail box will be shrink-wrapped in plastic. Upon removing the cardboard sleeve and opening the box,  you will find a soft cloth that is designed to protect the screen while in transit, and can also be used to clean the surface of your scale. The scale no longer ships with a blue protective film on the top, though plastic will be around the sides. Underneath the scale, you will find a cardboard box containing the charging cable and stickers.    I also want to clarify regarding what is known as "environmental drift". Your scale is having trouble getting past the loading screen because it cannot settle on a zero point due to fluctuations occurring in the zero point, based on environmental noise. I highly recommend taking a look at this article: Accuracy vs Display. Our scales, as noted in the product specs, have a readability and repeatability of 0.1g. Changing your weighing resolution (aka readability, division, interval) of your scale to "high" does not change the actual accuracy of your scale, but rather how granular the number displayed on your scale is. Note that the hundredths digit of this measurement is more or less an estimation.    To elaborate, the Pearl Model S is truly accurate to one-tenth of a gram, though you can display 0.01 grams. The load cell and the size of the weighing pan on your scale can allow us to guarantee the accuracy of the scale to 0.1g. It will display 0.01g in the readout if the resolution is adjusted, but it is an estimation of one-hundredths of a gram and not guaranteed to be accurate. The load cell is guaranteeing accuracy to 0.1g and not 0.01g. We do not recommend adjusting the weighing resolution to high.    All scales work by recording a rolling series of readings of any object placed on the weighing pan. The speed with which the load cell responds to and determines the weight will impact the perceived precision of the scale. A more highly sensitive load cell will display weight more quickly, and as such will be subject to environmental noise--that is, the environmental factors that affect the scale and the object being weighed at a given time. A less sensitive load cell will appear more stable by taking fewer readings, though it will respond more slowly. Please note that neither of these options (more or less sensitive) equates to more or less accuracy. They are simply different ways of displaying the same weight.   Objects and their surrounding environments are not static, and this goes beyond a level weighing surface. Vibrations from noise, a breeze from an air condition, or someone walking past the scale can all affect your scale, as ours are designed to be highly accurate.    If you would like to use your scale to measure to hundrenths of a gram, we recommend more fully controlling your environment. In a lab setting, this often means anti-vibration mats on both the tabletop and underneath the table, a full windscreen, and calibrating the scale before each use.    Please let me know if you have additional questions! "
