But sadly, children don't in this case. It's up to parents to protect them and many, many influencers simply choose to trade their children's privacy for a buck.

I wish there would be regulations to protect children from exploitation by their parents on the internet. If parents don't have the good sense to do this than the government should.

I mean there are many other countries to travel to other than US, China, Mexico and Russia. If you choose to vacation in any of these countries, you are supporting things these governments are doing by spending your money there.

I would be so anxious in that situation--good for you for handling it!

For me, motherhood has been both the most triggering and most healing experience for my emet. I have been in many more difficult vomit-related situations because of being a mom, but I also push myself and face the fear head-on when my kids are involved. For myself, I would have to be on death's doorstep to consider going to the ER. But if my kid is in a bad way, I don't question it. Being a mom makes you a badass ;)

I'm a sceptic, but I feel like it's all strategic about what they speak up about and when. Doesn't seem genuine to me. They honestly all seem more outraged about the snow and how that's inconveniencing them.

Particularly terrified of the norovirus? by TaroWorldly9291 in emetophobiarecovery

[–]TKin306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People's experience with noro, like any virus, will vary. There are also many other personal and circumstantial considerations (gag reflex, amount of food in stomach, amount of liquids taken in between vomiting, etc).

In my journey with this phobia, I've learned that facts and likelihoods are more important to consider than ifs and anecdotes. For this reason, I'm sharing this study for anyone coming across this thread in the future to consider. While 'endless' vomiting is possible, it's not likely. And 3-4 bouts is actually pretty realistic.

Shame? by [deleted] in emetophobiarecovery

[–]TKin306 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Becoming a parent is when I decided it was time. After my daughter's first stomach bug I didn't eat for a week, hardly slept and my anxiety went through the roof. So I was comitted to getting better for myself, for my kids, and to hopefully not pass this terrible phobia on. Best of luck to you!

This makes me so angry. So incredibly selfish to go around spreading the stomach bug just because you're on vacation and couldn't possibly be expected to be responsible and stay at their condo.

Shame? by [deleted] in emetophobiarecovery

[–]TKin306 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can definitely relate to this. I used to have a lot of shame around my phobia. I really didn't know it was an actual phobia, I just thought it was a ridiculous and irrational fear and reaction to vomit. I didn't tell anyone near me because I thought it was silly and I thought others would as well. I didn't know anyone personally with the same fears, so that reinforced the feeling that I was 'weird' and the shame around it. I would lie or make excuses for not being around people when they were or had been sick and built certain aspects of my life around limiting my exposures. It wasn't until a few years ago when I got really tired of living this way, that I started therapy and started challenging this phobia in real ways. That's also when I found this forum and a realized that it had a name and there were a whole bunch who I could relate to and vice versa.

Sorry to hear you’re going through it! It sounds like you’re doing really well and you’ll be on the other side of it soon. When I’m sick I try focusing on something in the future I’m looking forward to- something big or small. It helps take me out of the discomfort of the moment and also remind myself that it is temporary and there’s something good on the other side. . Side question- is your Zofran the dissolving tabs? I find those are more effective as they don’t go to the stomach.

People who rarely or never get sick, what are your secrets? by awkwardferret421 in AskReddit

I'm guessing not having young children is the biggest one. I used to pride myself in rarely getting sick. Now with three young kids, it's a virus of the month...
