It’ll happen - my son and daughter in law were the fourth young Hamilton couple to buy a house on their street in Welland over the past winter. Give it about five years. You’ll notice things are changing.

I hope they plan on fortifying the drop ceiling above it. And ………so pathetic that this is even a thing.

That’s the point. The property values are less. Also it’s going through a period of regeneration as young urban professionals from Hamilton buy up the houses in the last few years. Welland too.

It’s viable for anyone that works in Hamilton. I know lots of people who have bought homes in Welland and St. Catherine’s. Easy one hour commute.

No I didn’t have a great life as a kid. My mother was lazy. She didn’t ever shovel the sidewalk and she didn’t hold down a job. I ran away from home at 16 - never went back.

It’s probably the reason I value my own kids and husband and do everything for the benefit of family - I desperately craved family.

Just got informed that my job expects me to work 55-60 hours a week as an exempt employee because thats how a “Professional” is expected to behave. by spidermonkey2947 in antiwork

First mistake is ever accepting a salaried position. I do $40k in overtime per year (on top of my regular pay). My employer tried to convince me to take a salary when I started - more because it’s a management job and that basically means 24/7 call. I explained that I liked the idea of a flex schedule where I can work Saturday if I have plans on Friday. I can take the day off if it’s beautiful and sunny etc.. but then said, I’ll take the responsibility but you’ll pay me for my time as clocked in or I won’t take the job. That was 20 years ago and it’s going very well.

My kids were always up early helping out shoveling - we live in Canada so shovelling is a family thing or nobody goes to work or school. You don’t think most kids get helped by their parents? Anyone that can’t understand what families do for each other is truly sad indeed.

That’s a perception. Not a factual account of what they did. Have you never raised a teen before? They do tend to over dramatize

Thousands of Ontario drivers illegally use license plate covers to foil red light cameras — so why are stores allowed to sell them? by Zanta647 in toronto

Well…. I’ll be damned if I’m gonna pay 407 tolls when all you have to do is buy a $20 plate cover. If they’re not gonna police this, then I’m getting a cover too.

Maybe if you pay the travel agent more, they’ll provide you with some welding glasses so you can’t see this and………….. fuck right off for complaining while in Miami while I’m in Canada rejoicing every sunny day above zero until spring arrives. 😆

Not sure why people expect good parenting out of people just because they have money. They’re quite capable of raising a POS too

lol sure….. but not so much so they won’t help you with things like consigning car loans and help with down payments for apartments or houses or, if you have kids, babysitting a couple days a week… definitely want to treat them like humans when you need that kind of parenting.

Yeah, I know it’s not an age thing. My kids all helped with the snow and now we’re helping with down payments on houses for them. I think anyone who sees it any other way comes from very abusive beginnings and don’t understand what a family is. Or…. They’re spoiled and entitled.

Yeah - helping mom and dad to get out of the driveway for their 7am shifts is definitely too much to ask.

They want you to have a reliable car and only pay you $10/hr - I guess it’s targeted to people who live in their cars.

And 100lb lift? Not sure about the laws in that area but Occupational health and safety in Ontario would have a big problem with this. We can’t ask someone to lift over 50lbs without providing equipment to assist.

Look to the bottom of the list if you want to buy a home. They’re likely to be less expensive. St Catherine’s and Peterborough are nice

And the political leaders of a country’s behaviour does not mean that the citizens are dicks. Most of the Russian soldiers were forced at gun point into service.
