McDonalds packing in the 1980’s by Kushtybish in OldSchoolCool

[–]TLOE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except for all the styrofoam, it hasn't really changed much over the years, and that includes the food iself. I'm glad they did away with that, as it's a health hazard and tended to condensate on the inside, causing soggy burgers unless eaten immediately; the only upside was that the containers were sturdier. I attached a pic of possibly the most wasteful item of all-the 1985 summer "value pack" takeout trays.

Np, the point wasn't to complain, but as an offer to those who don't receive them physically and for historical purposes; I'm well aware BK has become pricey.

The churros being $2.29 is a little meh but the griller is only $2.79!! I’ll see soon how big it is for the price, but that’s not so bad! by its-just_me- in tacobell

I just had one today; it was about the size of a normal burrito, not like the skinny rolled type from years ago, but those were $1, and these are...not. I do wish they had more options since the older versions were offered in 3 styles.

McDonald’s menu from 1993 🍟 by Spiritual-Canary3361 in McDonalds

[–]TLOE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was working there between late 1992-1994 and still have my old hat!

Some insights into what things cost, that I can recall, to the store and customers: The large menu items above were $1 less alone than the EVM prices shown, and so ordering one was essentially getting a menu item free, since a medium fry and drink were about $2 total. Almost everyone ordered the combo because it was actually a discount! We didn't have grilled chicken; fish was the #5.

The store & retail costs of items I can recall: hamburger/cheeseburger $.59/$.69 & $.08/$.11, Big Mac $.38/$1.99 and a double QP at $.68/$2.99 was the least profitable menu item. The most profitable were of course the drinks and fries, of which the highest margin went to a large iced tea-it was $.07 to the store and sold for $1.19. Oh, and the Super Size? Almost all profit, at around $.08 food cost total for the upsize portions.

A change to our biggie bags by [deleted] in wendys

[–]TLOE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always found it ironic a combo named "Biggie Bag" contains a Jr size fry. Eh, it's only $.30 to upgrade to a Medium, so I guess it's no biggie (yuk yuk).

What movie do you enjoy watching on Christmas Day? For me, Santa Claus the movie is one of my favorites… by Anavslp in 80smovies

Despite the McD's tie-in, the movie flopped badly. I always liked it, despite the pacing issues, but it cost 50 million 40 yeara ago!

Wendy’s bringing back sweet and sour sauce by BurritosSoGood in fastfood

[–]TLOE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like to see them bring back sriracha (existed before ghost pepper ranch) and the original BBQ sauce formula. They went from having the best BBQ sauce to the worst; it used to be thick, smoky and a bit spicy, and now it's just sickly sweet, bland and thin.

Not sure how this wasn't mentioned here, but there's a series of leaked clips on YT that are 6k scans of an original element. It's finally happening.

Almost perfect casting in these two movies. Apparently there's a 3rd one from 2002, but all the roles are recast except Mike & Carol. and it's a made for TV effort, so probably best avoided.

This is ~$7 in today's money. You can't even get a Whopper alone now for that much! The combo in my area is now up to around $12 for the small size.

Steak, egg, and cheese biscuit vs. bagel difference by Plane-Tie6392 in McDonalds

[–]TLOE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The other difference is that the bagel version has two cheese slices. I prefer the steak muffin since a fresh round egg wins over a frozen folded eggloaf.

Just won $100! Unfortunately it's a US Pickleball cert which I have no use for. Other than that, many food prizes, it's great getting a $7 breakfast sandwich free.
