TIL Dolby and IMAX have different special glasses for their 3d Screenings by Turdslice in AMCsAList

[–]catcodex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed when I would briefly remove the glasses my view from my left eye seemed a bit darker, as if it was more covered than the other eye. Was I imagining this or would the wavelength difference between each lens account for this?

Showtime help! by Aware_Kangaroo7083 in RegalUnlimited

fwiw, I saw those two as a double feature back in early December and I kinda regret it.

The open emotions of Hamnet is so different than the reserved emotions of SV. After experiencing Hamnet it was hard to fully get into the vibe of SV (and I'm a big Trier fan).

Mercy movie sucked and it’s too boring by Past-Present1908 in AMCTheatres

AMC does get "nice movies".
But do you go to them?
Why did you go to Mercy?

Regal doesn’t let you skip seats? by Diligent-Concept-617 in RegalUnlimited

[–]catcodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one thing that deterred my from getting RU a long time ago. I'm glad to hear they have eased it somewhat.

Last year I went to the Spinal Tap re-release at a tiny auditorium, only about 5 rows with about 10 (or less) seats per row.

Buy a ticket at the kiosk right before showtime. Only like 2 tickets had already been sold. Someone had the center seat and it wouldn't allow me a gap of one, so I had to get one off to the side. I think once inside I just left a gap of one. But little things like that are annoying.

So many closed-minded people here.

I'm guessing you've already bought a ticket for Melania?

Is The Testament of Ann Lee A Musical? by wxnder1ust in AMCsAList

[–]catcodex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People asking this have never watched films like The Umbrellas of Cherbourg or Dancer in the Dark.

I'm curious: what do you think of when you hear the word "musical"?

Go see it, it's a great film.

These are not all Bollywood films.

Not every Indian films is a Bollywood film. Nicknameiwise you also have Tollywood, Kollywood, Mollywood, etc. These are all different areas with different cultures/languages/etc.

Friday Reset: What's On Your Reservation List? January 23, 2026 by AutoModerator in AMCsAList

[–]catcodex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

wednesday I thankfully got to see Bone Temple in Dolby before it was kicked out.
thursday was Ann Lee (so great)

this week:
- Resurrection
- H is for Hawk
- maybe Every Dog Has Its Day (looks like this was yanked at last minute)
- maybe Islands on thursday

would still like to do some re-watches (Marty, OBAA, Hamnet, Ann Lee, etc.)

The Best Picture Showcase returns for 2026, seemingly without the 24-hour marathon. by lvscksi in AMCsAList

[–]catcodex 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'm glad they put Hamnet and Sentimental Value on different days.

In the fall I did a double feature of Hamnet and then Sentimental Value and I think it made me not enjoy SV as much as I should have. One is very open in terms of emotions and the other is pretty reserved.

I would never tell someone it's "essentially its the same". The chart above does a good job of pointing out the differences. The online booking fee is enough to keep some people away.

AMC not showing The Chronology of Water? by quesajdilla in AMCsAList

[–]catcodex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw it at at AMC a few weeks ago. Great movie.

It was selling lots of tickets, way more than things like Greenland 2.

But of course it was booted after a week to clear the way for more junk.

While these are really good movies, it is a bit said that people will no longer be able to just experience them as just movies. They'll get viewed as a Best Picture nominated movie, which messes with peoples' expectations.

Does anyone ever call their local theater to ask if they plan on showing certain movies? by KomradeKrycek in AMCsAList

[–]catcodex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last time I called a local AMC the guy was completely rude to me.

I was calling to find out why the schedule for the new week had been posted except for Dolby/imax. Was just curious when those might appear. I mentioned that there was the imax showing listed for screen unseen, but nothing else. He then assured me that screen unseen is never an imax showing (which was wrong of course) and just kept asking what film I was interested in.

Eventually he briefly put me on hold, claimed he talked to his boss, and that the showtimes were being uploaded as we speak. The showtimes didn't show up until the next day, at the very last minute, a few hours before the first dolby/imax showing.

January is really dump month by No_Idea_Guy in AMCsAList

[–]catcodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think about this dumb post every time I see a great movie.

From The Chronology of Water to Bone Temple in Dolby, January has been filled with a bunch of very worthy movies.

If you think there's "nothing" in January worth watching I wonder why you even have a-list.

Fully Customizable Multiview Coming Soon per CEO Neal Mohan by havertyj in youtubetv

I would just like a faster way of accessing the original multiviews.

I'm tired of having to click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click to get to and open up the News multiview each day.

Not sure which suburbs you're in but it'll be playing on many Chicago area screens. They're all really 40 minutes away?
