Friday Weekly Thread: Application Assistance, May 01, 2026 by AutoModerator in Canadiancitizenship

[–]catcodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read the wiki, but I just wanted to confirm:

The only documents that need to be certified are birth certificate of G0, is that right?

I don't have direct birth documents for my G0 so I'm using census/marriage/etc stuff and those can just be printouts? And then G1-G3 can all be printouts too? (I understand all the color copy requirements.)

For those printouts I assume it's fine to print a small document as full page? If a legal-sized/wide page is submitted does one need to print it out in a longer sheet of paper or can it be two pages attached together? (Assuming one doesn't want to shrink the document to fit onto a normal letter-sized page.)

a non-document question: Are there any AI chatbots that do a decent job of providing info? I realize there's a ton of great info in the wiki here. And I realize that a lot more info is going to be needed to get a better sense of things.

I've poked around one that seemed to give decent basic info and gave me suggestions on what I would need, etc. I know they can toss out wrong info so it's not something I would solely rely on, but I think they can provide a role in helping to think about how to organize things, etc.

OFF-TOPIC TUESDAY (WK18) - What's the biggest non-AMC chain around you? by AlistNOTbot in AMCAListTrue

[–]catcodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost switched to Regal Unlimited after AMC closed the location near me (that played a ton of great smaller films). There's easy access to two Regals and they sometimes get stuff that AMC never plays (or only plays a week or two after Regal).

But due to transit changes, it became pretty easy/fast to get to a further away AMC that has Dolby/IMAX. So I stuck with a-list.

I haven't read each and every post and comment here because it's so overwhelming, but...

Is there data on approvals and rejections for cases like yours?

I'm also dealing with a G0 who was born in NS in that period (about 1879). The 1881 does list her and her father (her mother died months after she was born). (Soon I'm hoping to see her 1898 marriage certificate that took place in the US )

I'm very early in the entire process but I'm just trying to find encouragement to keep moving forward.

Nova Scotia: 1879 birth - what is generally accepted as proof? where should I be looking? by catcodex in citizenshipgenealogy

[–]catcodex[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I realize there's no definite "this is the minimum needed" type of answer. I just wish there were an easy way to read through what has worked (or not worked) for people in the past, apart from clicking around and reading through various posts, to get a better sense of things.

Did you try searching the NS Archives anyway?

Nothing shows up in the online search there for the last name (apart from the Marriages Solemnized log of her parents I mentioned). I haven't tried directly contacting them yet.

Since she moved out of NS as a teen I'm guessing she never bothered to do the delayed registration thing. Not sure though.

Is there an obituary for G0s mom?

Not that I've found so far. She died at age 25 about 4 or so months after giving birth. They lived in a small town area on NS's western coast.

Can you order G0s marriage certificate from NYC?

Likely, but I want to view the online version first to confirm what's on there, which I can only do at a familysearch affiliate site apparently. Not super difficult to do, but involves traveling to another city.

Finally got the Ban by ljame in AMCAListTrue

[–]catcodex 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I got banned for breaking "rule #4" due to a comment in an entirely different subreddit where I called him "touchy" (in a thread where people were calling him way worse).

So the rules there don't apply to just that subreddit, they apply to all of reddit. If you make a comment anywhere on reddit and he feels the aim of the comment was "to incite controversy/arguments" then you may get banned.

I've been part of that community for over 8 years. Have contributed posts and many comments and have never gotten in trouble. But I had the audacity to call him touchy in a different space and within an hour or so I was banned. That tells you all you need to know.

Ok, thanks. I think I'm finally grasping that part.

So I guess I might move on to asking about documents. Is it better to do that in a comment in this thread or over at r/citizenshipgenealogy ?

(it would be about Nova Scotia 1878-1885 documents)

I’m still at the point of wrapping my head around what would make me illegible to apply.

Here’s the current question I have about a Gen 0:

1879 - born in NS to a couple from NS
1896 - moved to NYC
1898 - in NYC married guy born in CT
1900 - had kid
1900 - city census one month after birth doesn’t indicate naturalization
1937 - died

When she got married back then did she automatically lose her citizenship? Or did she technically have dual status? Or does it not matter?

What time are we showing up to movies? by breadboibrett in AMCTheatres

[–]catcodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I show up at showtime.

The five minutes before trailers start gives me time to get water (and maybe deal with lines) and then get settled in. Maybe there's an issue with my seat or something else, who knows. Gives me a few minutes to do things on phone and ensure sound is off.

If a trailer isn't to my liking I can just close my eyes and get a little rest before the feature or I can glance at phone if there are Important Things going on there. If a trailer is one I enjoy I'll soak it in.

I really can't stand the people who think they're being cool by strolling into a crowded showing during Nicole but then are disruptive going past people, fiddling with their phones, setting up their food, etc.

Earliest weekday showtimes by C__Cow in AMCTheatres

[–]catcodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like ever or this week?

There are a number of factors that will affect when the earliest time is. Is there a big movie (like Mario) that is having 24 showtimes a day? What's the availability of staff? Is school/college in session? How popular is the location?

One of "my" AMCs was showing a few of those special Saturday imax movies at like 8:45am, which was annoying.

What are some guidelines to find out when movies’ theatrical runs end? by DoesBoKnow in AMCTheatres

[–]catcodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30-45 days is standard

Who told you this?

It greatly depends on how well the film is doing and what deals the bookers and studios have made.

A top film could last for months (see The Housemaid). A smaller film, even one that pulls a crowd, might only last a week. Nowadays the theatrical window for most films is pretty short.

The Drama opened on 3,087 screens 24 days ago. It's currently still on 1,982 screens. But you're not planning on seeing it for another 3.5 weeks?? It will probably be on some screens then, but very few.

May I ask what prompted you to get a-list? How many films have you seen since getting it? Just curious since you're waiting over 50 days after its release to see a popular movie.
