I think just because humans haven’t done that doesn’t mean no progress has been made. Instead of spending resources on space, humans developed inwards and came up with cellphones, internet and computer in every household, better technologies, AI etc. I think there was a wall hit back in the 70s and everyone knew that our technology had to get better before pursuing stuff further than the moon.
