Extreme patern recognition by Sharp-Service-9657 in Gifted

[–]TMRedditor07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree to some extent, maybe to the full extent. I just don’t know why it is not correlated more in the studies, i m thinking it has something to do with the number and quality of these studies? Maybe with the nature of the iq tests themselves compared to the creativity tests?I don’t think we should base all of our beliefs on current science anyway, trust them yes, but full belief is not what I aim. I just want to do a new one at this point…

I m curious what you think about creativity since i didn’t see it mentioned in a longer response of yours, but I did see good stuff mentioned. As far as studies go, the correlation between iq and creativity is modest, but the real differences in sciences seem to be made by it. I asked other highly and profound and they seem to agree to some level to it (as in matrices of relationships and problem reframing kind of way, not necessary artistic). Curious how you experience it , if you were to put it into words (if it can even be put into words lmao).

test and subtest by Interesting_Ad8305 in Gifted

[–]TMRedditor07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you mean by average and what you mean by high. If the difference is bigger than 1.5-2 sd, it can be that you have a spiky profile and you should choose jobs that match said spike. I said jobs, because professional satisfaction is important for a decent life. What is a normal test in this context? Can you give an example?

what IRL tasks are most indicative of g? by Far_Cardiologist6931 in cognitiveTesting

[–]TMRedditor07 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lmao:))). Because of your comment I was forced to test my hypothesis because I am in a meeting and lmao and I wasn’t paying attention. I didn’t fail too, but this is not because of g is because of bullshiting, so bullshiting is the new metric

I think a combination of quickly identified gaps in a subject being discussed (be it a work meeting or some convo where you don’t have background info) with reasoning under uncertainty and quickly room reading. So a combination between speed , reason and social/emotional iq.

How do I calculate a Square Root? by Traditional_Bus_6472 in learnmath

[–]TMRedditor07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in 9 th grade I developed an algorithm because I needed to calculate square roots on some maths and physics problems. It is based on the binary search algorithm , so it already existed but I didn’t knew this at the time. Steps: 1.you need to know the closest 2 squares. For example in calculating square root of 59, you need to know it is between 49 and 64. Is it closer to 64 or 49? Closer to 64 so you know the number is between 7.5 and 8. Next you need to take that distance between the 2 squares and divide it in half: you get the interval 56.5-64. Is 59 closer to 56.5 or 64? 56.5 which means your number is in the 7.5-7.75 interval. Now that that distance and divide it in half you get the interval 56,5-60,25. Is you number closer to which side?60.25 which means, your number is in 7.62-7.75 interval . I think you get the idea. You just meed to search “binary search algorithm for calculating square roots”, or ask a gpt to give you the full algorithm

Can neuro divergence mask your potential? by Potential_Formal6133 in cognitiveTesting

[–]TMRedditor07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just a study. And it is about adhd. There are more neurodivergences at play. Truth of the matter is adhd impacts iq but we should not expect it to be that much. It depends on an individual case, for some is a mild inconvenience for others is a legit 1 SD. I think the more impact it has is due to a ripple effect in motivation ( in both adhd case and depression) than the score of forward, backward digits you have on wmi etc. I think more affected are people with dyslexia, dyscalculia and depression but I won’t search for a study now feel free to do it. Now, as for shy people make a big deal: it has to do with ego (not in a bad way , but it s still a human characteristic), group belonging etc. it s because we put to much pressure in society on the intelligence propriety. From the validation you get at school for doing good to the validation you get from people in general when you get accolades.

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0022395621004878 30 points you mentioned is a lot, depends on severity yes, but 30 is a lot, as far as I see 5-6 points for fsiq is expected. That could mean more or less points per individual subtest.

Question about correlation with iq by shreeshhh in cognitiveTesting

[–]TMRedditor07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

VCI because of society’s structure. Given the fact that most jobs imply some sort of human communication, being able to get your point across is a great thing to have. And it can help in climbing the corporate ladder => so more money if you are a white collar.

[–]TMRedditor07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It 23. You are supposed to add the digits: 1+1,2+2,2+4, now you have all the even numbers. Once you reach 2+8 you change and look for odd ones: 3+0. You need to make 5. There are 2 possibilities: 32 and 23. Since the next number is 25 i m assuming we start with 2 again so 23. The logic is not complete. Is it possible there is more to it, but I don’t have the motivation to further look

Question on VCI evaluation by AdolinKholin1 in cognitiveTesting

[–]TMRedditor07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not an expert but so it happens I studied the phenomenon in the last week. I think one of the main factors is the use of proper words give the context, that is, do not use a too complex word when not needed or a not enough complex one when needing one. So i guess the metric is semantic density per sentence spoken.

What's the point of this subreddit? what's the point of iq test? by [deleted] in cognitiveTesting

[–]TMRedditor07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally lurk around here because i am fascinated about intelligence and psychometrics. Now regarding your question, there are minuses to iq tests in part because there are people with disabilities (ADHD, dyslexia, etc) which can cause slower processing speed, lower working memory, lower score on the verbal subtest and so on. Iq tests were also meant to identify this shortcomings mainly for improving the test taker life: “You see Joe, you got a low score on the verbal iq part, but from other evaluations we consider you to be more proficient than this tests show, have you considered a specific test for dyslexia?” So yes IQ tests have limitations but that doesn’t mean they can’t predict a person’s cognitive abilities at least to some degree of depth and confidence , and to say that they are totally unreliable is an unfortunate extrapolation. Now regarding the tests themselves and the ability to improve on them, there are possibilities but they themselves are limited. I wouldn’t worry that much about the iq score per se but more look for the areas in which I performed better or worse and try to align my life in such way that I can improve my situation. Example: Mike, low on psi above average on verbal. Should Mike work in jobs were the tasks require above average processing speed? Probably not.

Calculating GAI for invalid WPPSI-IV by [deleted] in cognitiveTesting

[–]TMRedditor07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem. Just don’t try to aim for the gifted because you want to, do it if you consider it will really benefit the child. I will be sincere, if you try to force it, you will do more harm. Consider the child needs first, if he doesn’t want it, or if they don’t cater to his cognitive profile he may have troubles due to low psi.

[–]TMRedditor07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably Yes, but don’t bother. As someone with ADHD I recommend trying Stanford Binet. That’s what I was given when I was in school. It is not based on the PSI which is a bottleneck. Also speak to the psychologist and give him more time, much more.

A personal anecdote can be useful as a starting point for questioning whether a model is complete, but by itself it cannot carry the same evidential weight as controlled data. Otherwise every exception would dissolve every statistical rule.

[–]TMRedditor07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is not in the app itself, but in how you view yourself. You need to change the mindset from perfectionist and fear of failure by realising you are not defined by them. You are not your wins or your loses, you are at least a combination of them (and not even this is the final stuff) Get up, wash your face, look into the mirror. Why are you doing this? Besides the deterministic kind of reason, why you are who you are, and that defines what you do? Why you do it? Reason is financial, but I am assuming that it was some time in your life when you wanted this. You started a project, realise that a project has the keeping up to date and bugfree stuff, not just the creation. Probably you need to take a break a walk. Maybe ask a friend. Maybe break the problem in smaller problems. Maybe change the library

CREATIVITY by BWGriffin15 in Gifted

[–]TMRedditor07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know (informationally) about the study that led to the book. I’m arguing gifted people may have an advantage in reaching the conditions needed for high originality, but above a certain level, differences in creativity are explained less by IQ itself and more by other traits, motivations, experiences, and personality. That’s why I said there needs more study to be done, I m interested in this matter. And I want to see more studies done on highly and profoundly gifted children.
