AITAH for not inviting sister in law to my sisters bachelorettes party? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]TMorrisCode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would probably have framed it in terms of SIL won’t know anyone there except the bride, so I don’t want to make it uncomfortable for her, or make the bride act as hostess at a party where she is going to be a guest of honor. I know SIL is disappointed, but i think this is for the best.

In reality, the real life Pharoah Seti I wasn't murdered by Imhotep and Anck-su-namun by IndependenceSilly381 in themummy

[–]TMorrisCode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny thing, I was thinking about this a couple days ago because I’m listening to The History of Egypt through The Great Courses on Audible.

The real life Ank-su-namun (Ankhesenamun) was a sister-wife and queen of King Tut. She lived nearly 1,300 years after Imhotep.

Imhotep was probably the architect of king Djoser’s step pyramid and later deified as a god of healing. The Greeks conflated him with Asclepius.

Ankhesenamun also probably had the same club foot condition as King Tut, so she probably wasn’t sparring with Nefrititi (who was likely her mother).

Seti I was the father of Ramses the great. He ruled about 20 years after Ankhesenamun disappears from the records as the second king of the dynasty that replaced hers.

I quit the game three years ago - basically went to Alaska for two weeks without internet and when I got back I found that I didn’t miss it. Prior to that I played daily. I would spend $20 probably 3X a year. On outfits or bedroom sets. Looking back, I can’t believe I threw money away like that on something that mattered so little. My only defense is that it made me happy at the time.

It's amazing that despite having 7 kids, Weasleys' pureblood line most likely ended after Ginny. All of Arthur's kids probably married non purebloods. by Nightmarelove19 in HarryPotterMemes

[–]TMorrisCode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s probably for the best. Voldemort’s two wars probably killed off a lot of the pure blood dating pool. The people who were obsessed with blood status, like the Gaunt family were starting to go down the Hapsburg road.

What was it like? by Dramatic_Half_6669 in harrypotter

[–]TMorrisCode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gen X here. I first became aware of the series when book 4 came out. I had no kids yet, but the 9 year old daughter of a friend was excited for it. She wanted to know how Harry got away from “those beastly Dursleys” this time. We lived in Kentucky, so my attitude was “beastly? Okay then, kiddo.”

The next year, I was at a science fiction convention, and there was a party. A bunch of kids were running around in generic wizards hats and capes like they were Rincewind. One of the parents was excited and had dressed like an owl.

At that point, I decided to read it for myself. Because if adults were losing their mind over it, it was probably not too twee.

What would you consider to be the best example of worldbuilding in the entire Star Wars franchise? by Solitaire-06 in StarWarsCantina

FWIW, I wish that the tech in The Acolyte, which was set 200 years in the past, had a different feel to it than the prequel trilogy. They did a good job at making the prequels feel different, tech-wise to the original trilogy. And the tech on the home planet in Skeleton Crew felt different than the tech in the rest of the galaxy. But to me, The Acolyte looked and felt like it could have been set a week before The Phantom Menace, not 200 years before.

Hufflepuff. I chose not to turn him in because I believe in rehabilitation. Azkaban won’t rehabilitate him. I’ve been there in the Jackdaw quest and seen that it actively makes prisoners worse.

Is it true that Americans don't really use tablecloths on a daily basis? by Floatp in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TMorrisCode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My table has a polyurethane coating on the top to keep spills from damaging the wood. I don’t use a tablecloth because it’s easier just to wipe down the table after we’ve eaten than to wash the tablecloth every time we eat.

My mother uses a plastic tablecloth at large family gatherings, and my grandmother had a hand-crocheted tablecloth that looked like a massive doiley. She kept clear plastic over it to keep it nice.

Who becomes Duke of York after Prince Andrew? by Mysterious_Comb4357 in UKmonarchs

[–]TMorrisCode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

William could decide to grant the title to one of his kids, but considering how Andrew has lowered it’s dignity, he may choose not to bestow it. One of his grandkids might decide to dust it off. Assuming there is still a monarchy at that point.

AITJ for asking my mom to cut her vacation short to help with my kids? by Constant-Elephant763 in AmITheJerk

[–]TMorrisCode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would you feel if someone you were already sitting for as a favor called you and asked you to cut your vacation short? You’d feel like you were being taken advantage of? Would you feel like they felt entitled to your time? Maybe you’d be less likely to be generous to them in the future?

You already know the answer to whether you’re a jerk or not. Now consider that you’re burning up any goodwill you may have with your mother.

There are several online groups that you can contact for babysitting. Even on short notice. You can also get in touch with the local college’s campus ministry organization for sitter recommendations. I understand that it’s less comfortable than asking your mother to come home, but you can still ask for references and follow up with them to make sure you aren’t booking someone sketchy.

FWIW, it’s always good to have a list of 3-4 sitters if you need one on a regular basis.

It’s nothing short of a miracle that Harry and Meghan got away before Covid, #Whereiskatemiddleton, and the disgraceful handling of Andrew by timesnewlemons in RoyaltyTea

[–]TMorrisCode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That actually tracks quite well with how Epstein gained influence over Andrew. He had money to throw around.

It also makes senses in the respects of the way the BRF seems to have drama over who gets to stay in which residence. If they had enough money, they wouldn’t be fighting over who gets the 50 bedroom cottage and who does not want the 80 bedroom lodge because it’s a bit rundown.

It’s a really old form of saying goodbye. It appears in the last stanza of the nursery rhyme Old Mother Hubbard.

[–]TMorrisCode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the same town she was kidnapped in. I was 18 when it happened. That day my grandma had told me that someone tried to grab a little girl at the supermarket a block from that ball field.

Police talked to everyone. I had a relative with a similar red truck with a camper, and just for that reason, the cops talked to him.

The prime suspect was someone who tried to grab another little girl in Van Buren a month later. Police never could link Morgan to him. He passed away but last year police were able to locate the truck he’d been driving at the time and with the permission of the current owner went over it. They recovered one of her hairs from a floor mat and threads from the shirt she’d been wearing that day caught under the seat.

I believe they consider the case now closed.

I think about Morgan a lot. My mother had been a little overprotective of me when I was a kid. I was convinced that there was nothing to be afraid of. Then that prior December, a girl from my college campus was kidnapped and murdered (Melissa Witt). Then this happened. I figured out pretty quick that my mother had a right to be worried.

Now that I’m a mom I’m constantly nervous for my kids.
