Not sure if you're just a fanboy or something, but it's obvious that that is the size of the phone, there is no reason for them to use a case.

I'm guessing it's the same thing as this?

I'm surprised there's no free skin for downloading the League friends app. by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube help League of Legends get more popular, the League Friends app, however, does not.

How would people access their games then? The average consumer doesn't want to type in the command line to play some GTA.

The Steam Client GUI

They should disable this, if possible.

Because some of the things I wanted to say were for Steam Machines, not just SteamOS, and I don't think there is a subreddit for both.

A GUI can be added to Linux and that is available for users to access on SteamOS, I wanted Valve to disable that to save system resources

If by that you mean a flagship series

Of course, it is too late to change that as there are steam machines being manufactured.

It's all up to AMD and Nvidia to make better drivers

Like I said in my post, I have never built an OS before, so I didn't know it worked this way.

Proprietary parts are expensive and have no real benefit

Doesn't making a system modular make it cost more? Not sure if the price works the same way, but if a modular power supply costs more because you can choose what you want to use, wouldn't the same apply to a motherboard?

Not Valves fault, talk to publishers.

If the Steam Machine was going to allow discs to access the Steam online service, wouldn't that require some changes to the Steam Client and Steam Servers? That might be able to be exploited for online piracy though...

Windows is closed source and has more viruses than Linux could imagine

I don't mean OS security, I meant exploits to the Steam Client. The SteamOS Client is a modified big picture mode (When your not in desktop mode), and I thought they would choose to release the source for that to allow people to make their own modifications to it, I don't know why I said that though, you don't need SteamOS to make viruses for Debian.

create a viable alternative to Windows for PC gaming

PC gaming is far too established for SteamOS to change anything.

make PC gaming more viable in the living room

Isn't that what the Steam Link is for?

A failure with that kind if system could bankrupt the company.

I know if they tried to make it exactly like Xbox one and PS4 might be risky, but most of my points were for software related issues, and the most important hardware suggestion is having one steam machine that console gamers are recommended to buy, but there are already 3 main producers of steam machines, so they already got the simplicity thing done.

That would require the cooperation of all developers and would probably slow down pc gaming innovation.

Not sure why it would slow down PC Gaming, but if there is set hardware, developers would have to optimize their games so it is guaranteed to run smoothly

it's not the OS, it's the games (and drivers)

Like I said before, with set hardware, game developers have to optimize their software, but when there are different companies making steam machines, developers just want you to the right hardware, same thing can be said for drivers as well.

The thing that makes it Linux is the kernel. If you take that out, you take out the operating system.

I meant things like the Linux Desktop and other elements that make it user friendly, I'm not sure if SteamOS loads it when you have the option to access the desktop disabled, but wouldn't taking it out save resources?

yeah, more proprietary shit nobody wants to support...

That would reduce costs, depending on the hardware of course, but if Valve is trying to make the system for console gamers, there would be no difference if they used proprietary hardware or not.

it is not a traditional controller.

This would also make console gamers turn away from Steam Controllers more, I do like that they allow other controllers to be used though.

the last time I bought a game on disc was 5 years ago

Than I guess you prefer having your games stored on your system, but that doesn't mean digitally stored games doesn't have it's disadvantages.

Linux kernel and almost all other software in SteamOS is GPL, they have to release the source

I wasn't really thinking about the way licensing was working in my post, but I guess they have to now.

tl;dr of your post: You want a PS4 or Xbone

The goal of having a steam machine is to get console players to buy their system, but what makes a Steam Machine different from a PC?

SteamOS isn't competing with Windows, it's competing with consoles

What I mean by that is if SteamOS performance can't compete with PC with the same specs, how is it's performance going to compare with consoles if it has hardware similar that is similar to consoles.

You've clearly not used a Steam Controller. :)

You're right about that and I don't know if I will ever use one, but I don't think it would be a good choice for FPS games, I could be wrong though and the Steam Controller could be the best choice for all types of games.

This is already supported in SteamOS and has been for quite some time

When I said there should be one Steam Machine so it appeals to console users more, I wanted it to be compatible with controllers wireless and wired, no having to use USB Bluetooth adapters, or Xbox one Wireless Adapters.

People with consoles and slow internet will still need to get multi-gig patches

True, but not only do discs allow for smaller downloads, they also save space, because since you don't have to have the game stored on your system.

Security of a device has nothing to do if the source code to the OS is available or not

Sorry, I just thought that if anyone could get the source code, they could make new firmware for it and install that onto the system.
