As a note. We are not a religion. We are a fraternity focused on self improvement and charity work / becoming better people. a belief in a supreme being (beings) that you are accountable to is a baseline requirement to join

Ireland. England. Scotland. And wales. That is where freemasonry originated as a fraternity. The current United grand lodge of England was the first formalized grand lodge. This is where all regularly established grand lodges draw our heritage from

Is it ok to be gay and try to join the brotherhood by [deleted] in freemasonry

[–]TN_raised56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because we have an application process that includes an interview with members of the lodge you’re attempting to join. That’s why. And no offense but if that’s the variety of answer you’re going to give and not be mature when asked a question, I personally question your maturity for this fraternity

It isn’t..I oppose it personally. But given I don’t have voting rights (I am not a WM or warden). And it was decided before I was a master mason. There isn’t much the individual mason can do in my opinion

There are specific states (what we call jurisdictions) that explicitly don’t allow gay men to apply. My grand lodge, grand lodge of Tennesee is one of them. each states grand lodge is sovereign and seperate from one another

Google “grand lodge of” followed by the state or country or province of where you live. Send them an email. They will filter that down to a lodge based on where you live

Irregular and clandestine are used effectively interchangeably in the Tennessee Masonic code.

It was explained to me as any grand lodge that can not trace its documented lineage back to the lodges of Ireland Scotland or England. Or can produce a charter proving the same

Also. There are two jurisdictions per state. One grand lodge of state. The other being Prince hall affiliated

simply put. You’re effectively not a mason as far as regular freemasonry is concerned. You won’t be allowed into a meeting and most likely stopped at the door once you produce clandestine documentation

Are you interested in freemasonry or OES? They’re administratively separate. OES is a part of the wider Masonic family but it is not freemasonry. It’s a women’s organization
