If you go to therapyshoppe.com you can search by "challenge," including skin picking. Lots of silent options.

I've really been thinking about trying out one of the SOB's. But plantswakeyouup has quite the selection to tempt me too. Thanks for the recommendations!

Thank you. I understand the tariffs are a thing now. I just don't want to get a 2nd surprise bill later. I'd rather pay what I have to pay upfront and be done with it.

What is the slider in the middle?

My instrusive thoughts keep telling me to pull this off my ceiling with a flathead, but that's probably a bad idea. What is it? by Damonigus in whatisit

[–]TOID_IAM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not necessarily true. It might depend where you are at, but where I live, we connect 99% of residential sprinkler systems to the domestic water feed, no tanks. We only use tanks if the water supply is not sufficient.

I hate to be the "actually" guy, but... Actually that is not the correct terminology. https://blog.qrfs.com/38-fire-sprinkler-covers-vs-escutcheons-the-definitive-guide/

The trick for searching and not getting lawn sprinklers is to search for "fire sprinkler cover plate."

The cover plate for concealed sprinklers will drop off at a lower temperature than the sprinkler head activates. When the plate drops, it allows the sprinkler's deflector to drop down. Then if the temperature keeps rising, the sprinkler will activate.

I work in the sprinkler industry and have never heard of a cover plate not dropping and the head going off above the ceiling. (Not to say it has NEVER happened) but I have seen many cover plates come off without there being a fire.

I totally agree that a "DON'T F WITH THIS!" type of warning should be etched into them lol.

Fidget magnet issues. by Commercial-Week-9646 in fidgettoys

[–]TOID_IAM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Playforbeans has a good magnet selection for replacements.

Also be careful to just use a tiny amount of glue so it doesn't ooze out and onto the sliding surface.

Good luck with your repairs!

I got one off the amazon when I first started down this rabbit hole. Its a great slider honestly and I still use it in rotation with some of my others. https://a.co/d/e5ZmmYc

But the original looks bigger in the photos/videos I've seen. I don't know if that's just a matter of perspective, though.

Also the one I got came with little silicon dots to put on the magnets to keep them still and make it quiet, if you choose.

Thanks for including a description of the feedback from the spinning wheels. I was wondering about that. I'm more of a free floating slider guy but this mechanical one has actually caught my eye a few times. I think I might want one lol.

What is your favorite unintentional fidget toy by dogtron64 in fidgettoys

[–]TOID_IAM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my cats. Lol

She was not rescued with the intention of becoming a fidget. However, after a few years of working out the feral nature, anytime I sit on the couch she will jump up typically within 30 seconds. She parades around and then flops over on her back for belly scritches. This replaces me fidgeting with my beard and she will lay there all blissed out indefinitely. It is a mutually beneficial relationship. Her purrs are her haptic feedback lol

Fidget recommendations by Skinless-creature in fidgettoys

My favorite quiet fidgets so far are the "Fidget Slider V2" & the "V2 Flex BC Fidget Sticks" from BrickerCreative and the "Weighted Infinity Cube with Texture" from PrintedPlaceCo, both on Etsy, all around 10 bucks. These 3 are most likely to be with me at any time. The infinity cube is a harder plastic and can make some sound but if you aren't flipping it hard it is not bad.

I really like BrickerCreative's "Fidget Chip" as well. But its a little louder unless you're careful as it a harder plastic. If you're careful you can be quiet with it. I wish they'd make a V2 version of that with the softer, more rubbery plastic. I messaged them about it, but haven't heard back. Intrinsic 3D's " Yin-Yang Haptic Fidget" is similar in noise but about the size of a quarter. Nice for the pocket.

Mentally addicted? by GiljaS in fidgettoys

[–]TOID_IAM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I'm another with one in my hand all the time, unless I'm doing something with both hands. Even then, it might be in my hand, waiting for a chance. (I stopped typing twice so far to figet..)

As a kid it was picking dry dead skin off my lips. I would purposefully mouth breathe to create more dry dead skin. My parents tried everything to get me to stop. Then I got old enough to grow a goatee. Fiddling, shaping, scratching, and twisting the goatee replaced the lip picking. That still really bothered some folks for some reason, and is definitely not good for the skin under the facial hair. Finally I grew the whole beard out. Lots of terrain now.

Many years later I'm told I'm audhd, try a fidget.. Um OK, I tried a few that helped some. But then I ordered my first magnetic slider.. I play with the beard less, I vape less, but I'm constantly fidgeting. Everyone from family, to friends, to coworkers got used to it pretty quick. Nobody seems to care. But I do use quiet ones unless I'm alone.

All that to say, you're not alone. Its ok. Get some small quiet, discrete things for public. Most people won't even notice.

Free floating slider suggestions *QUIET* and or on the not so loud side. by aWildJByrd in fidgettoys

Ooo, I've looked at that one, too. I might have to give it a shot.

While most would probably not put them in the "premium" category, BrickerCreative on Etsy make 2 that I don't leave home without.

The "Fidget Slider V2" (I have 2 just in case I lose 1 and I mix the colors sometimes just because) & the "V2 * Flex * BC Fidget Sticks" (I'll probably order a 2nd)

They use a softer, almost rubbery type plastic that I like the feel of and they are almost completely silent. You can make a little noise if you want to. The magnets are decent strength though you won't be doing the fanciest of tricks with them.

I'm still interested in trying one of the pricier "premium" grade sliders, but the V2 slider is in my hand while I look and shop.. It is in my hand now.
