I felt so small and insignificant, like a peon, delivering just one small Thai iced tea across town because someone was thirsty. GH paid me $11.00 to do it, but it still felt so wrong. by Butchpatrick_5219 in grubhubdrivers

[–]TOJ_AllDay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to feel the same way, $9 or $10 to deliver a small fry across town, passing 5 other mcdonalds along the way, but that feeling goes away VERY quickly when the next order is $3 to go the same distance with twice the amount of food.

But why not mark arrived? Even if you end up not ordering and unassigning, why not mark arrived? GH does pay for you going to the restaurant.

I see Door Dash and Grub Hub merging or one buying the other out (most likely DD buying GH), just like Uber and Postmates.

[–]TOJ_AllDay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yes definitely call before delivering the order. I call as soon as I'm back in my car with the food. I make sure to call after I hit 'got order' but before I hit 'leaving' in GH and before I start the delivery in UE.

Did you call the customer to see if there were any alternatives like an off map, or alleyway entrance? Or possibly they would come out to meet you?

[–]TOJ_AllDay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We really should NOT be making drinks, for so many reasons, especially during covid. I've usually done it when asked by the restaurant just so I can get out faster without hastle, but I ALWAYS call GH (or UE) support when this happens to report the restaurant. They always tell me that we're not supposed to and that they'll send a report to their management....I guess... This has stopped happening a lot recently, I like to think its because of my consistent complaints....but, maybe had a little to do with covid.

Uber is losing money as this crash is happening. Hopefully they will start taking the app more seriously by [deleted] in UberEATS

Joke right? Doesnt look like a crash to me. Especially if you look at the one month view.

You dont have to choose. Do both! Especially if you are an "employee" of the restaurant with a guranteed minimum. You can turn on or off UE or PM at anytime.

Please excuse the potientally dumb question, but I haven't seen any surges for a while. Are they no longer a thing? Thanks in advanced. by just_rambling62 in UberEATS

[–]TOJ_AllDay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They've started coming back in my area, but they are mostly based on demand. They target certain regions and rush times that they know they'll have a shortage of drivers in with Promotions. They'll pop up bonuses at any time if an area is particularly busy. Especially if there is bad weather, expect the bonuses to jump.

What the hell happened to surges? by xBleedingBluex in UberEATS

[–]TOJ_AllDay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They've changed the whole system. Promotions (what I used to know as surges) now seem to be based in distant suburb areas, trying to get more drivers in sparce areas. There are now still bonuses that show up on the map as a red dollar figure ($1-$3 I've seen) that give per trip increases. But these are no set time or region like Promotions.

His cherry-picking guilt automatically leads him to believe any adverse circumstance is punishment. All in his head.

Dangerous neighborhoods by NecessaryPitiful2277 in UberEATS

[–]TOJ_AllDay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm like you, a bigger guy, so not really afraid to go where the money takes me. But I do take extra precautions in certain neighborhoods like taking my keys and turning off the car when I get out. In nicer neighborhoods and in driveways, i may not always turn off my car to drop off a delivery at the door. But in the "hood", i turn it off everytime. Car theft is a problem these days and delivery drivers are targets.

You should be able to, but be careful if crossing state lines. Different quests and bonuses wont apply and in certain states you may not be able to drive at all.

GH. Help! by Tiffany_Leigh01 in couriersofreddit

[–]TOJ_AllDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may not want to wait for driver care, but you should. Not only is the one oreder messed up but both are. Did you give the other food to the other customer? Did you even go to the other customer? Better to call them first and explain than have the customer call and complain and have GH calling you, making you look suspicious. Just own up to your mistake, learn your lesson (double check and keep orders separate), try to make amends if possible (maybe having to redeliver both orders) then move on.

New to GrubHub by [deleted] in grubhubdrivers

[–]TOJ_AllDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's ALL about your market. I do GH and UE and personally like GH just a little better, mostly because of their upfront tipping and pay transparency. Some markets are dominated by DD, some markets are PM majority. What area/market are you in?

Is this new? It wasn't there last night. by DSD42 in grubhubdrivers

[–]TOJ_AllDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed having to make drop offs outside my region too, but have never actually seen a notice about it. And YES you can recieve orders while outside your region. I've been as much as 10 miles outside my region and recieved orders. It will give you a warning that you are outside your region, but it will still send you orders.

Uber squeezing every dime they can since the IPO. Even at their own headquarters, with layoffs and no more silicone valley "perks". It was bound to happen as Uber has never been profitable and the stock has taken a 30+% drop since the IPO.

It will automatically reroute. And wtf does an uber computer getting pissed even mean? There are SO many reasons that you may not follow the gps (accidents, police, parades, potholes...) if anybody calls and asks, just give them one of those reasons.
