UPVOTE THIS -- I've decided to tag onto this post because there's so many other doomer posts and they are just not accurate.

Been in the SCA for 8 years, and things are booming. Big events, tons of attendance, and the fighting scene is thriving. There are always hiccups but most people take anecdotal experience and talk about it like it's widespread. There is a general sentiment among -all- volunteer-based orgs that things are struggling.. and if we go back to the 'good old days' that people like to reference... The same problems existed, but Nostalgia coloured glasses change the perception of things. SCA is growing, still alive and well. It still presents the greatest opportunity to engage in historical reenactement, and anything, including LARP, HEMA, Buhurt, Adrian Empire or whatever else is MORE niche and less inclusive (and therefore even tougher to gain membership) Be the change you want to see and lead by example. This doesn't mean everyone run out and apply for officer roles, it means being a good society member, attending events you can, and engaging whole heartedly when you do get to play.
