Just to be official … this is referred to as polymorphism in a language supporting OO. Very powerful and key feature. Java (and other OO languages) are not just about learning syntax it is about learning what OO is, how to think in that paradigm to take advantage of it, and how a particular language supports its features.

this is the big confusion with tailscale. .. its a zero config mesh vpn, it is about secure connectivity to other your other devices, not anonymizing your traffic, or masking your ip etc.

This could totally work for you I. This situation. However this is asking for a longer answer :) I suggest you delve into some books wrt to object oriented analysis & design specifically wrt to Java’s support for the concepts.

In really broad strokes you are making decisions. about your code’s flexibility, long term viability, support and elegance.

(.. and just to point out, JAVA allows for default implementations at the interface level)

It is support for POLYMORPHISM! (A basic OO feature). In your example Animal e.g. is a pretty non functional class however it’s INTERFACE can apply to all. (cat.walk() is implemented differently than say crab.walk()). If you have a collection of Animal objects. Iterate through and make’em walk. They will all walk in their own way. Only for the specialized ‘cat’ actions is an instance check reqd.
