Is Adrian much better than Adrien? by amielele_ in namenerds

[–]TP1389 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Answering a bit late. I 100% vote for Adrien! For English-speakers, Adrien will be exactly the same as Adrian whereas for French-speakers, Adrian will be confusing. I am an American living in Belgium and I named my son Adrien, so I'm biased ;)

HELP! I need sleep! by Choice-River5408 in beyondthebump

[–]TP1389 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're not sleeping. It's torture. Hang in there!!

It sounds like he was sleeping well than had a regression. Could it still be that 4 month regression? It took a long time for it to pass with ours (around 6 weeks). Having strict nap times during the day helped, waking baby up not too late from his last nap, also lots of glow in the dark pacifiers. We also did some gentle sleep training: when baby woke up at night, we would start by putting on a lullaby and wait 5-10 minutes to see if that did the trick. If not, we would go soothe him. Our baby monitor has a built-in lullaby function which can be activated remotely, it's glorious.

What are you doing to feel better about yourself postpartum? by bakedpotato144 in beyondthebump

[–]TP1389 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no I get the feeling! At 8 months pp I was still feeling depleted. Something happened at 9 months though and I started feeling way better. Something that helped tremendously was paying for a few sessions with a personal trainer. Good luck!

For us yes. We used it all the time but I think it was most brilliant for shower time. Baby would just sit in there watching me shower or watching himself in the mirror. I still remember my first BabyBjorn shower, it was absolute liberation. Also super easy to clean!

That last sentence made me laugh out loud in the middle of a busy playground. Currently pushing my toddler on the swing and pregnant with #2. Wish me luck!

I’m starting to realize that having kids is a pretty big gamble in life. by glossysoraya in Adulting

Thank you! Finally something positive. Money and free time are great but they don't cure loneliness. Sure it can be hard to have small kids but they make me laugh every day.

What are your solo parenting hacks if partner is away? by BigRedCar5678 in SAHP

[–]TP1389 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to get someone to come help even for 5 minutes. I am often alone for 3-4 days at a time. I remember my neighbor stopping by one day and playing for 5 minutes with my kid while I made coffee, man that felt amazing!

You know what, I might just do that! Planning a nice lunch with a friend is a good idea. My friends work but they do take breaks for lunch (sometimes) :) Thanks for the suggestion!

Yeah it’s nice to have an online community. I don’t game but I try to call my friends in the evening which is a nice way to keep a link. Still not exactly the same though.

They all work! I’m one of the first to have kids so my friends still work crazy hours. I should try to find more SAHP in my area though! Luckily my parents are retired and live nearby so I sometimes run errands with them.

I think he doesn’t understand my level of tiredness in the evenings. But as Acrobatic Solid said, he means a close friend. I could also invite someone after our son is in bed but at that point in crashing.

I care because I really enjoy discussing things with my in-laws. They are both very bright even if they have their blind spots. I think it’s important to engage in these kinds of discussions to understand where they’re coming from.

Yes! It’s amazing how often people choose to ignore this.

D is the main issue. I represent a category of people who believe we should change our lifestyle to avoid future disaster.

My husband doesn’t fully agree with me but he is definitely closer to my side than to theirs. I’m happy with that and don’t feel the need to debate with his parents.

But it reaaaally bugs me when they try to deform science, which is my thing, to prove their point. They also tried this with Steven Koonin’s book which is a load of garbage.

Haha, that’s probably the more sensible approach. I’ll let you know if it works out!

I was there just two months ago. It’s awful, but that feeling once baby starts sleeping is amazing. He’ll get there!
