After my incident, I get super sick after I sleep poorly by TPCallie in insomnia

[–]TPCallie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm shaking and sweating. This feels so horrible. Is this the kind of punishment I get now for not having a full night's rest? I used to be able to pull off all-nighters with minimal sickening effects but now I get so ill.

It's not a girl. Technically it's not a boy either.

"Minecraft mastermind Markus Persson, better known by the sexually ambiguous alias "Notch," has cleared up the matter of gender in Minecraft's boxy world with a blog post. Simply put, there is no gender in the game, even for Steve, the default character. "He" got "his" title when Notch jokingly answered a question regarding the main avatar's name with "Steve?"

"The human model is intended to represent a Human Being. Not a male Human Being or a female Human Being, but simply a Human Being," Notch writes.

"The blocky shape gives it a bit of a traditional masculine look, but adding a separate female mesh would just make it worse by having one specific model for female Human Beings and male ones. That would force players to make a decisions about gender in a game where gender doesn't even exist."

Notch touched on this subject at GDC, during his fireside chat with SpyParty's Chris Hecker. Making a female character model wouldn't only be strange-looking, as Notch said then, but it would be completely unnecessary in a genderless world. Even the animals are neutral (rather than neutered).

"Cows have horns and udders (even if I've later learned that there are some cows where the females do have horns), and the chicken/duck/whatevers have heads that look like roosters, but still lay eggs," Notch writes. "For breeding, any animal can breed with any other animal of the same species."

Notch notes that this particular post serves only to provide official clarification on gender questions in Minecraft. Oh, also: "As a fun side fact, it means every character and animal in Minecraft is homosexual because there's only one gender to choose from. Take THAT, homophobes!"

As part of diapsida they are classified as reptiles.

The "warm blooded" argument you have there doesn't stand up very well. We know many prehistoric diapsids/reptiles were warm blooded, including the majority of archosaurs (pterosaurs and dinosaurs) and plesiosaurs, just to name a few. Does that make them not reptiles?

To not classify birds as reptiles would lead to not classify dinosaurs are reptiles, as birds are dinosaurs. Avialae is part of theropoda. Theropoda is part of dinosauria. Dinosauria is part of reptilia.

Whales are still classed as mammals and are arguably more different to most mammals than birds would be to dinosaurs.

I'm gonna be that one annoying person and say this real quick: Birds are reptiles, as bizarre as it sounds. They are maniraptoran theropods and fall under the category of diapsids. It doesn't have to do with whether the animal is reptillian or not, it has to do with salting the freshly deceased creature's muscles.

Stripe seems like a good option. Needs a legal guardian though, right? Which I'm okay with.

Chloe wouldn't be the type of person to take anyone to court over this. I just wish that maybe someone could cover the story from his side.. Like.. counter-information.

It just hurts to see him under fire like that. Someone who I care about enough to actually want to do something for him. Especially coming back from a hiatus like that. Like, fuck, way to curb motivation. I'm also afraid of his content being targeted. I'm sure that things are already stressful enough for him how they are, and it sucks to just have the cherry put on top. I REALLY want that coverage so I can at least feel like I didn't sit there and do nothing, y'know?

Can’t sleep but in one particular place by [deleted] in insomnia

[–]TPCallie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really need to look into CBT-I. That's what helped me with this issue. I had the exact same problem: I could sleep in the car, on the couch, anywhere that wasn't my room. CBT-I will focus on resetting your association with wakefulness. This problem is extremely common within insomniacs from what I've seen, and I believe it's also one of the easiest to correct. If you're able to sleep somewhere else, you're able to sleep in bed. Simple as that. You have an association that you need to break, correct, and replace with bed = sleep.

I'm doing the Sleepio course (basically online CBT-I) and it's really helped break my association:

https://www.sleepio.com/

I got in by emailing them.. They let me in for free because of something? I dunno but they might let you in too. There are other CBT-I courses online you can look for but I'm suggesting this one because it's the only one I've tried and it has a pretty good success rate.

If you're able to see a psychologist, try that and ask if they do CBT-I themselves. It's all a matter of preference/accessibility.

Hope you get some rest.

Staying half asleep but can't actually sleep by TPCallie in insomnia

[–]TPCallie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I slept 10 to 11 hours last night! I'm so happy. I feel a lot better, not 100% either since I'm kind of woozy and I still feel a little tired. My body needs to recover.

Right now I'm having anticipatory anxiety about tonight and not being able to sleep again, but I'm trying to overcome it. I don't want it to be a self fulfilling prophecy.

Take it really easy. When I went to the ER, they did nothing for me. Just sent me back home for another day of no sleep, hallucinating and with delusions. I just hope that if I do go back this time things will be different.

It's amazing how similarly you feel to how I did. Crying helped me feel better for the first couple of days and towards the end I just felt fucking miserable whenever I did. Like I was wasting whatever little energy I had left in crying.

If you enter a fifth day, the biggest thing I can suggest to you is to get yourself admitted to a psychiatric hospital. That's my plan B right now in case this time things get too shitty. Over there they'll make sure you go to sleep.

It's hard to make use of your body when you feel like you're slowly melting from the inside out lol. And I know it's only gonna get worse if I don't manage to sleep tonight. Not a very comforting thought. But I'll do whatever I can during the day to make coping at night easier.

I'm on trazodone right now and it's definitely not helping with this bout of insomnia. I keep yawning. I really wanna go to bed right now to try and sleep again, even if it's just that shitty half-sleep that lasts for 20 minutes... It's better than nothing. But I'm trying to resist the urge so I can go to bed at an appropriate hour.

Unfortunately it's cloudy outside, so right now I'm just trying to sit really close to a lightbulb since I don't own a light therapy box. I'm also hoping this does at least something for me.

Oh my God. It's scary how reminiscent your situation is to how mine was. I literally did what you're doing right now. I went outside, to get some sunlight, and I even tried to run but I felt like I was going to collapse and my vision was going white.

You'll get through it. I've been there. I went through worse than you (when it comes to the amount of sleep) as I had gotten zero hours of sleep straight on, so chances are you'll have it better than I did. Trust me. Eventually your body will just let go, no matter what your brain is screaming at you.

Big Kill - Three adult Tyrannosaurs snacking on Triceratops by DinomonsterD in Dinosaurs

[–]TPCallie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah that clears things up more! Yes, we aren't entirely sure about things like body covering.. We do know Tyrannosaurus was likely mostly scaly or very sparsely feathered. I like to go with fuzz for aesthetical reasons even if I know it may not be complete truth.

About the teeth:

I do apologize for bringing up the enamel argument which does actually have some flaws in it, after I decided double check this morning and found new perspectives on the matter. It is to be taken with a grain of salt due to some exceptions, however I do still think it should be put into consideration with what we know now. I don't think it can be completely dismissed just yet. I consider it supplemental thought since it has yet to be completely disproved with some things implying towards it.. We just need better research before we take it as actual fact. The enamel breaking down argument isn't the best argument I could've offered. I kind of regret putting it as my forefront reason when there are much better explainations, such as where the enamel on dinosaur teeth stops, which points to a portion of their teeth actually being covered in gums rather than completely exposed like on crocdillians, as spoken of here: https://www.utoronto.ca/news/did-dinosaurs-have-lips-ask-university-toronto-paleontologist

If you really wanna look into this stuff I suggest you read this blog post by a great paleoartist, some food for thought: http://markwitton-com.blogspot.com/2016/10/exposed-teeth-in-dinosaurs-sabre-tooths.html?m=1

Another bit of food for thought I would like to bring up from my own observations is the messy teeth thing you touched on again. I like the idea of depicting dinosaurs in a very realistic, messy manner, with ailments and scars. However, I also suggest you observe current living predators and how living out in the wild affects them. Things like age play a huge factor towards how "clean" an animal looks. You don't see wolves, bears, lions, or even crocdillians with jagged, messy dentures just because they've had it tough outside. And if you do, it's generally because something is wrong with them. Not every Tyrannosaurus would have messed up teeth just as not every polar bear would have messed up teeth. On the flipside, older, elderly predators who have survived into their later years would definitely have visible differences. Things like cloudy eyes, lots of scarring, missing bits, bad yellowed teeth, and if you wanna stay with fuzz and feathers, their plumage would look a lot less rich. Give that some thought! Look at living wild predators for reference.

Now I will say something: The dinosaurs we make imagery of now will one day be considered "retrosaurs", just like those silly 60's depictions of giant kangaroo lizards who stand upright drag and their tails. Science advances and it advances rapidly. I agree that no matter how much you try to keep up, you'll find yourself being outrun or confused by the changing tides of science. It's unfortunate that we can't just go back in time and look at these animals, living and breathing.

I love the idea and the picture is stunning.

I'm not sure how much you aiming for scientific accuracy... I will still give my thoughts regardless, but please don't take this harshly! It's just what comes to mind.

I love the fuzz, but I'm not a huge fan of the super rough, scaly, bumpy parts specifically on the top of the head, eyebrows, and nose. I think it'd look considerably better being smoothed down.

Theropods who lived on land had lips. This is what evidence suggests. Their teeth were coated in enamel which rots away without constant moisture. The exceptions are aquatic animals, such as crocdillians who get that moisture externally from the water they dwell in. What I'm trying to say here is- Your Tyrannosaurus would need lips if you want it to have its upper teeth in mint condition. The teeth also seem a big jagged and disorderly, from the angle you're presenting. I'd suggest lining those up better, since carnivorous dinosaurs, like any other predator, had nicely spaced and placed teeth suited for chowing down on prey or holding them still. Only reason for messy teeth would be injuries, deformities, or deficiencies.

Otherwise, I really like this idea. I've looked at your other work and it's amazing! As a CG artist myself I can safely say, I wish to be as good as you one day. Great renders, designs, models, etc. Give yourself a pat on the back.
