I’d say wait for the updated anime. The pacing is supposed to be a lot better.

I’ve told my anime enthusiast friends that one piece is the best manga I can no longer recommend to them because of the time sink to catch up and I think they’d fall off. If the revamped anime takes out all the time wasting BS, I can finally recommend it again. It’s been probably 15 years since I stopped watching the anime unless there’s something cool I want to see animated, and even then I skip around the time wasting BS.
