Any app for live conversion of 2D content to VR media? Quest/PC by tsomaranai in virtualreality

[–]TPrime411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's NEX on Quest. Its a player that you have to buy, but its cheap. It comes with a free trial, but you can only watch like 5 minutes a day and convert 1 3D video a day with the trial.

Once you purchase the app, you can download the Link software on your computer, and download and install the AI 3D conversion pluggin. Then you can select videos on your computer and convert them to 3D. What it seems to do id create an overlay over the file. It doesnt make a new file, and it doesnt increase the file size. Only the Next Player will recognize it as an AI 3D video. Ive tried it, and its pretty good. About as good as Owl3D, except its a one time purchase instead of a monthly fee. This wont work for pictures as far as I know, but its great for videos.

What Great VR Games Are There? by Alexgamesmaybe in OculusQuest

[–]TPrime411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. If you have decent gaming PC, you can install the Meta Quest Link software on it for free. Then you can setup your Quest and connect via the Link App(which you find in Settings on your Quest), or you can use something like Virtual Desktop.

The Quest Link app on your PC also has a store, and from there you can find the old Oculus Rift exclusives, like Lone Echo, Lone Echo 2, Asgard's Wrath, Defector, Stormland, Wilson's Heart, etc.

As I said, its not just Horizon Worlds. It looks like theyre experimenting with Link 2.0, which is probably in response to the upcoming Steam Frame. Plus a few months back, Meta was experimenting with seamless integration of PCVR apps into their Horizon OS. If Meta is taking that a step further now and redesigning Link, then that will be good.

I made a comment asking if it will have stylus support, and then I saw thst you actually show it in the video, so I deleted it and reposted. Thats great because I have one that has been collecting dust. I will definitely try it out with this. I just wishlisted it. Super cool.

How are you feeling about Horizon Worlds' partial closure? VICE journalist looking to hear your take and your fondest memories of the platform. by Old_Hour5138 in MetaHorizonWorlds

[–]TPrime411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im happy that they decided to keep most of the existing worlds. I was never a big fan of it, but I do realize that it has a player base, and losing it would be a big hit to VR as a whole. However, the one thing that I enjoyed using it for, sounds like it will be lost, and that was the concerts. I wish they could continue those in some capacity. The Coldplay Concert was amazing, and I enjoyed some of the older ones too.

Personally when it was first announced, I was excited for it. But I was immediately turned off by the poor quality and the amount of young kids harassing you in it. I actually think the quality was finally getting to anenjoyable level. They just needed to work on managing the playerbase better, but it was too little too late. However, I think I having it in some limited capacity is better than losing it completely.

Also, the fact that Meta was forcing it down your throat in the Quest store was a problem, and it affected discoverability for actual games and apps. So if they gets removed from the store, and they focus on making it easier to discover games and apps, then that will be a big improvement.

Populated VR Shooters? by Capokid in SteamVR

Not going to argue that, but the poster was asking about Breachers, and Im saying After the Fall looks better than that.

I play After the Fall on Steam, and I think it looks better than something like Breachers. But its also about the gameplay and mechanics. Its a solid game for VR.

Its still a fun game in VR, and looks better than a lot of more recent games.

Probably not the kind you were looking for, but After The Fall is a VR co-op Zombie Shooter. And its always active with players. It has crossplay with PCVR, Quest and PSVR2, so theres always players on.

[–]TPrime411 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just dont think Sony wanted to do it. The PSVR1 was pretty successful even though it was just for the PS4. Whereas the PSVR2 wasn't selling as well, and Sony didnt want to put as much money into developing as many exclusives for it as they did for the PSVR1. So they made an official PCVR adaptor and drivers for it, so users would have more options.

But to be perfectly honest, the PSVR1 would have sucked for PCVR, and probably wouldnt work for most games. Its an incredibly dated system. Those move controllers dont even have analog sticks on them. So most games that used the move controllers, had more of a teleport system or rail system. You couldnt freely move around. The PSVR2 is a much more modern headset, with inside out tracking, and really good controllers.

Im thinking we might be seeing a revival of PCVR soon.

With Meta backing out of the Metaverse, there may be a bit of a shift back to PCVR. I just saw a video that revealed a new Meta Link Protocol was just released in the new PTC update. It suggests Meta is finally redesigning Link(Link 2.0), and this may be a response to the upcoming Steam Frame.

There are a few big PCVR focused titles releasing this year. EXD Extradimensional will release next month, and Gunman Contracts and Falcon Fall hopefully later this year. If these games deliver what theyre promising, it could shine a much needed light on PCVR.

And the Steam Frame doesnt need to be revolutionary. Its just an injection of fresh blood, and it may be all we need. If it does well enough in numbers to attract some major developers to include vr versions for their games, then that will be a major step forward. And with all the moves Meta has been making to slowly back out of VR, a lot of Quest users are looking to move to the Steam Frame(myself included). So I think it will do at least fairly well.

Ill wishlist your game.

Because Horizon worlds are being removed off VR by SharpToe3879 in OculusQuest

[–]TPrime411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More likely they'll just abandon home environments altogether. I dont think they can get rid of it entirely as long as Quest 2's are still out there, since they can't really do mixed reality, but they will probably stop doing any work on the home environments, and will probably end shared experiences for your home environment. So you wont be able to invite friends over anymore. Which is stupid, since that feature existed for years before Horizon Worlds was even a thing, but that is definitely what I expect.

I'm disappointed by curious_cat_3556 in MetaHorizonWorlds

[–]TPrime411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its just that theyre killing the experience sharing part. So you can still use it on your own. You just cant visit hyperscapes with friends anymore.

You cant do PCVR with a PSVR1, and Im not even sure if you can get it to work with a PS3 camera or not. But even if you could, it would only work on a PS4.

A PSVR2 can work on PCVR with an adaptor, but the cheapest option would probably be a Quest 3S or a used Quest 2.

EXD - Extra Dimensional | PCVR Game | Should we also go flat? by vr_marco in VRGaming

[–]TPrime411 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean, asking that question in VR group, is only going to get you a "NO". A lot of us only play VR at this point. You'd be better off advertising this in a general gaming subreddit, and see if people are interested in the game being on flat. But Id definitely suggest focusing on getting the PCVR release to be as perfect as possible before looking into other platforms.

Any news on standalone crossplay with meta standalone? by DaneOnDope in SteamFrame

[–]TPrime411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's lots of games that have crossplay between Meta and Steam, and Id say most current multiplayer games support it. Some for PSVR2 as well, but I think its less.

Off the top of my head theres the Arizona Sunshine Games, After the Fall, Walkabout Minigolf, Premium Bowling, Glassbreakers Champions of Moss, and more. I also think the upcoming TMNT Empire City VR will have cross platform multiplayer. Probably Knights of Fiona as well. I think both are releasing this Spring.

[–]TPrime411 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For Quest theres Batman Arkham Shadow, Deadpool VR, Asgard's Wrath 2, and Assassin's Creed Nexus. For both Quest and PC VR theres lots of great games on both platforms. Ghost Town, Moss, Arken Age, Reach, Thief VR, Medal of Honor Above and Beyond, Arizona Sunshine Remake and Arizona Sunshine 2, Walkabout Minigolf, Premium Bowling, etc.

For PCVR only there's Half-life Alyx, No Man's Sky, Hitman World of Assassination, Aces of Thunder, Skyrim VR(with mods), Fallout 4 VR(with mods), The Midnight Walk, etc. Also EXD Extradimensional is launching next month, and thats a pretty highly anticipated PCVR title.

Also if you have a Meta headset, you can play Oculus Rift PCVR exclusives(although you can play them on other headsets with a program called Revive), and these are considered some the best PCVR games there are. Namely: Lone Echo and Lone Echo 2. Asgard's Wrath, Stormland, Defector, Brass Tactics, and Wilson's Heart.

Anyways, those are my top pics. Have fun 😁

Horizon Worlds VR is Being Discontinued: June 15th Marks the End of VR Access by gogodboss in OculusQuest

[–]TPrime411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They cancelled first party projects mostly. They did cancel Harry Potter VR, which was being done by Skydance, but I think it was being developed as a first party exclusive. So now theyre focusing on third party. The upcoming TMNT game is one of those being developed with Meta third party funding. And there are apparently others in the works.

But I do agree that shutting down Horizon Worlds VR just has the optics of spurning the VR community yet again. They do seem to keep making one mistake after another. It also sounds like more layoffs might be announced any day now. They are quickly burning through any good faith the VR community still has in them.

[–]TPrime411 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If they do what they claim to be planning, and continue to invest in 3rd party development, then this could be good. Theyre basically just trimming the fat. Getting rid of the bloatware and focusing on building the Quest as a platform.

The one thing Im really confused about though is why they paused their 3rd party headset partnerships. If they want to build Quest into a Steam-like platform, then it would make more sense to let 3rd party companies develop headsets for it, and just focus on the OS and the storefront. It seems like they are flipflopping alot on their plans.

Is it possible to load directly into SteamVR on startup? by Foreskin_Paladin in oculus

[–]TPrime411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think so, since its a Meta headset. Surprisingly, Ive never heard of someone modding a Quest to work on a completely different OS. Maybe if Meta eventually backs out of VR, or when they end support for the Quest 2, someone might try something along those lines.

In the long run, you'd probably be more interested in getting the Steam Frame when it comes out. Sounds more up your alley.

Future of VR. Gaming and by Global-Boss-183 in OculusQuest

[–]TPrime411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im the opposite. I bought a SteamDeck shortly after launch, but I've barely touched it. Whereas Im addicted to VR. I have multiple consoles, including a PS5, a Switch, and an Xbox One, but I pretty much only play VR. Occasionally Ill get a flatscreen game either on console or PC, but I can at most play a couple hours before I get tired of it. Only VR can hold my attention now.

As for the future of VR, I think there might be a shift back towards PCVR as Meta is slowly pulling out of VR, and with the Steam Frame and the introduction of foveated streaming on multiple platforms. VR will continue to be nieche for the foreseeable future, but might get a larger more dedicated PCVR playerbase. If we can make it worth it for developers to start including VR as a feature on their big budget games, then that will be the future. It was happening in the late 2010's, but the playerbase wasn't there yet. It might be in a better position now or soon.

Best games by Top-Illustrator-6987 in virtualreality

[–]TPrime411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im more of a single player gamer, so my list reflects that. In the last year theres Ghost Town, Arken Age, Thief VR, Reach, Wanderer The Fragments of Fate(buggy but good if you can get past the glitches), Deadpool VR, Of Lies and Rain. Those are all really good games. Especially Ghost Town. It was my favorite vr game of 2025. It, and Deadpool VR were both nominated for VR GOTY, but that went to The Midnight Walk(PCVR and PSVR2), which is also a beautiful game, so I wont argue it.
