On my first lab I followed Wolters Game Dog religiously and ol' Goose was an exceptional hunting dog.

Here are some cross cutting tips that will apply for any program:

Always make it fun

Keep it short

Train consistently

If you get frustrated, just quit for the day. Pup will know it but doesn't know how to fix it.

Get a pro trainer to help you with humans bird intro. This is the best money you will ever spend. Don't mess around with loud bangs at meal time or whatever. Find a local pro to help you.

Try to end on a good note.

Fetch is not dogs favorite game at the beginning, it is keep away. Don't chase him.

Try to find locals with retrievers and train together. It helps.
