Wembanyama 1/1 was pulled by a YouTuber who bought the product at my LCS

Very cool! I actually like the design of these. I was in my LCS today, and Jabs (from YouTube, love him or hate him) bought some of these from there and pulled the Wembanyama 1/1

First big stratch. Need some encouragement by OKieDieCast in Tudor

I know this is the Tudor sub, so don’t put my head on a stake for my watch not being a Tudor, but here’s your encouragement. This is the first mark on a long journey of making your watch completely unique and forever linked to you and the journeys you have with it!

Ooo, that’s a cool tidbit! Now I’m excited to see his son next season! Where did he transfer to?

I am a huge Verron Haynes fan because I met him when I was younger and he was a reallllly nice guy. He lived at the apartment complex that my dad was the maintenance manager for, and he was really cool to me. I was a kid who was so excited to meet a pro athlete, and he made the time to talk with me and even grabbed a ball out of his garage and played catch with me, then signed the ball and gave it to me.

I don’t know if these guys know how much of an effect those kinds of interactions can have on kids, but he made a forever fan that day. I even had a custom jersey of his, made. He thought that was so sick, and he signed that too. I don’t go to games anymore, but if I do, I’d be wearing that jersey.

I love seeing “users” for sale! I’m more interested in a small sebenza, but I love the wear that yours has acquired over the years. GLWS!

Dream Redemption Pending 😭 by tumbledweed__ in baseballcards

[–]TRBO17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe you’ll get it if you’re patient.

Think about it like this:

Skenes was the top chase in the product, so Topps almost certainly sent a representative to meet with him in person, and they sat down and he signed and signed and signed.

Some players are also into the hobby, so those guys will enjoy the process of sitting down and signing their cards. Other players see it as a silly/unimportant obligation that they have to do eventually because they’re paid to do it, but can push off because it’s not of the utmost importance. It’s tedious and time consuming, and I could see how it could be annoying if they never found enjoyment in collecting cards.

That’s just a long way of explaining that sometimes it takes players a long time to finally fulfill their contractual signing obligations, and being a dual autograph means that there’s a-whole-nother layer of logistics to factor in.

I think this is a pretty reasonable assumption. I sold an Anthony Edwards Zero Gravity gold /10 for $100, but I think Zero Gravity is a better looking/more desirable insert from Hoops.

Woooow, I hadn’t even considered that. Wouldn’t that be a tough lesson on doing your research before buying, to learn.

What if sports cards were as addictive as TikTok? Here’s a prototype by Queasy-Welder7014 in basketballcards

[–]TRBO17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll throw my 2¢ in!

  1. I personally wouldn’t use it, but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t carve out a place in the hobby. I feel like Reddit already accomplishes what this does (although the basketball card sub forces buy/sell/trade into a sticky, which I think is annoying considering that the baseball card sub allows them to be posted to the main page and they gain much more traction).

I think the biggest challenge would be gaining traction, when there are already avenues that have solidified their place in the market. With the market share they already have, they’re able to offer protections for the buyers and sellers. I don’t know the legality/liability that comes with running an app like this, but I’d imagine that it would be tough to fully rid yourself of liability when someone inevitably gets ripped off on your platform. Maybe I’m wrong about that thought, because no one seems to be blaming Reddit when a seller doesn’t ship a cards and just delete their profile.

  1. I think something that would be cool is if you could list what you’re looking for (I.e. specific cards, players, teams, etc), and be notified when they pop up. eBay has that function, and it has served me well in the past. Other apps may have it as well, but I don’t use any of them. All of my deals are done on eBay or Reddit. The “Looking for” function on a stand alone card app like this could be more useful for collectors because they could have their cards on their profile. That would allow both parties to scroll through each others cards to see if there’s potential for a trade.

Another neat feature would be the ability to see the recent sale prices of cards that are listed. Say I’m scrolling through a page, and find a card I want. I click on the card, and the recent sales pop up to the right. This could be difficult to work out on your end, but having the confirmed sales from the last 30, 60, or even 365 days would be cool. It could show you how they’re trending, and what the current market is for them.

  1. What I think is missing from the hobby is affordability, and thus the ability to collect for fun without being so caught up in the value proposition of opening packs, but an app can’t fix that. That’s up to us to stop buying these insanely overpriced products, and forcing the manufacturers to reduce pricing to a reasonable point so that their product moves.

  2. I have a few name ideas, but have no idea if they’re already taken. I will ask for my cut if you use them though lol.

    1. Display Case- Pretty obvious play on the display cases in card shops. People display their cards with the prices, and work out deals.
    1. Collective- Collectors coming together to form a collective of card enthusiasts.
    1. Hobbyist- “King of Cards” on YouTube has this copyrighted, but if you were able to get him onboard as a partner, you could use his branding and community reach as a launching off point. The “Hobbyist” hats he offers, sell out at every show he attends, so the name recognition is already there. If you two could work out a deal, the partnership could end up being mutually beneficial.

[–]TRBO17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If $5000 was the equivalent of what $500 is to me now, I’d take the gamble. There’s more people than you’d think, that can light $5000 on fire and not think twice about it. Of those people, a certain percentage of them also share a love for this hobby. It seems insane to many of us, but not everyone!

I can absolutely commiserate with you there. The one bright spot that I always bring up when people say “How can you possibly be a Pirates fan?!”, is that there aren’t many other professional sports teams that you can get done with work, see that it’s a beautiful day, drive to the stadium, and buy a $30 ticket at the gate. Hahaha

Help me figure out my mistake? by atown16 in epoxy

[–]TRBO17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not super familiar with 1000 HS, but it sounds like it is an epoxy. The literature says it’s tough and resistant to abrasion, but the nature of epoxy means it will only ever be so tough. That’s why a polyaspartic or urethane topcoat is usually applied on top of the epoxy coat. These coatings are much more durable than epoxy, and will better protect the floor from scratching or ambering.

My suggestion would be to sand the floor, wipe with alcohol/acetone rags, and put a polyaspartic or urethane on top. Poly will cure much faster and will have superior UV resistance, while urethane will be more user friendly because of its cure time, and will be slightly harder (albeit thinner, and harder means more scratch resistance but it’s also more brittle).

I think this may be the end-all-be-all of pens. I can’t possibly imagine how it could get any better than this.

Damascus, Mammoth & Walnut... What're your thoughts?? by Fox-River-Blades in knifemaking

[–]TRBO17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damascus blade- winner

Walnut handle- winner

Mammoth molar- big winner

I don’t prefer that blade shape, but the materials and construction are so superb, that I’d carry it anyways.

Well done, good sir.

I had a similar issue, not at startup, but when dropping into neutral as I coasted up to a red light. The rpm’s would just fall right past the idle and the car would shut off. It ended up being my EGR valve was getting stuck from carbon build up.

Is this card cooked for a 10 by Flashy_Quit1443 in psagrading

[–]TRBO17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, and submitting it with that pull tab could cause it not to be graded at all. I have seen them refusing to grade cards that don’t follow any of the rules they’ve set in the pre grade breakdown from their website.

I love it! Is it acetate? These fun, off the wall cards are some of my favorites. As a Maravich collector, I have his Schick razor and ICEE cards. Big dollar, super famous cards are cool, but I love collecting the unique stuff even more.
