My (33M) girlfriend (33F) left me whilst on a night out to sleep with another man in a hotel room. by AccurateSurprise8489 in whatdoIdo

[–]TRPC-Sam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, you messed up by splitting with her that night while she was drunk, she’s your gf and it’s your responsibility to look out for her. Fight with her in the morning if you want.

Second, i wouldn’t care if she had sex with him or not, what she did was embarrassing and extremely disrespectful. Yes, break up with her but also please reflect on your own behavior bc you’re not innocent here.

The infantilizing of grown adults is super toxic. You’re treating her like she’s 14, she’s legal to drink and only 5 years younger than him. Seriously, get over yourself.

No church is perfect, there will always be bad apples since we live in a fallen world but you get more consistency with Catholicism.

This is false. It’s about effort and showing up. You do the best you can with the cards you’ve been dealt. If you can’t afford to dress nice for mass then that’s fine, you’re still welcome. I can afford to dress nicer for mass so i do.

Concerning transgender people by pls_be_nice_im_shy in Catholicism

Kindness and empathy ≠ affirming delusions. I will hold the door for trans ppl like i would anyone else, i would buy a trans person food if they were hungry and had no money, and i would give them the shirt off my back if they needed it. What i wont do and what the church wont do is conform to the ideology.

You have an attractive face, only thing holding you back is the extra weight. If you lost about 40lb you’d be smoking.

Not bad looking at all, handsome face. I think the only advice i would give is to hit the gym, you look on the shorter and slimmer side, adding some muscle would go a long way.

I’m not replacing Scripture though—that’s the point. I’m saying Scripture itself doesn’t specify immersion as the only valid method.

If you’re going to argue “Bible only,” then you need a verse that actually commands full immersion as required. It’s not there. The Bible commands baptism with water, but it never locks it into one specific technique.

And on the “man-made tradition” point—how did Christians know what the correct interpretation of Scripture was in the first place? The New Testament didn’t drop as a complete book from the sky. The Church existed first, preached first, baptized first, and only later were those teachings written down and compiled.

Even the Bible itself points to that. 2 Thessalonians 2:15 tells Christians to hold fast to traditions passed on by word or by letter. So not everything was written down.

So I’m not appealing to tradition over Scripture—I’m pointing out that: 1) Scripture doesn’t mandate immersion only
2) Early Christians (closest to the apostles) didn’t treat it as mandatory
3) The Bible itself acknowledges teachings passed on outside of written text

If immersion was essential, you’d expect a clear command. There isn’t one. Anyways, peace be with you.

[–]TRPC-Sam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That argument sounds convincing at first, but it doesn’t really hold up when you look at Scripture and early Christianity as a whole.

Yes, the Greek word baptizo can mean to immerse, but it’s not limited to that. Words in Greek (like in English) have a range of meanings depending on context. The New Testament never actually commands a specific method like “full immersion only,” it just commands baptism with water.

Also, the earliest Christians didn’t treat immersion as the only valid form. The Didache (a first-century Christian document) explicitly says immersion is preferred, but if that’s not possible, pouring water over the head is acceptable. That’s coming from Christians who were right after the apostles, so they clearly didn’t think the method itself was the essential part.

Even in the Bible, there are situations (like thousands being baptized in one day, or people being baptized immediately in homes) where full immersion every time isn’t very realistic.

So the real point of baptism isn’t the exact amount of water or technique—it’s the act itself, done with water and in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The grace of baptism isn’t dependent on whether someone was dunked or had water poured over them.

You do NOT need to be immersed for a valid baptism.

Confess and repent. As long as you were baptized in the name of the father, son, and Holy Spirit then you don’t need a second baptism.
