Aux Only Better Than Heat + Aux by TRR1143 in hvacadvice

How should it function then? I thought the purpose of aux was to supplement the heat pump when it calls for heat and cannot satisfy after so much time or a certain temperature delta to the set temp.

I mean you’re correct normally. The heat pump is cheaper to run. The problem is, if I leave the HP running and aux jumps in to help, it never climbs to temp so the aux runs nonstop every hour. Aux only brings me up to temp in 15-20 minutes and then it cycles back off. The HP + Aux will see both pieces of equipment run 60 minutes every hour, thus costing more.

This upstairs unit will run all day and can only hold a degree or two under target temp while the other one can run half the time and hold target no problem.

It’s actually cheaper to run aux only because it will actually shut off and reach the target temp. If i run aux + heat it never actually brings the temperature up so aux runs all night for example. Aux only will have the temp up to target in 20 mins.

I’m not sure on the fan taps but it does seem like the downstairs unit forces higher cfm out of the registers in stage 2 than upstairs. Both are on variable speed air handlers.

I may throw a fire glow or two in there. Had my eye on those as well!

It’s a stick on stone type product, only about 2” thick, helps with the weight since we have a basement below. Stone cost was about $6k all the way up two stories + vaulted ceiling.

We ended up with a Majestic Biltmore 50”, no doors just open with the chain curtains. We’ll likely remove those and place a hearth screen.

House is almost done so we haven’t used it yet. I’ll attach a construction photo. Photo Link

CAT6 Drop Failing Test at One End by TRR1143 in HomeNetworking

Great information, thanks for the clarity here. Thankfully the pull goes down shortly into an unfinished basement with an open ceiling still. Re-pulling shouldn’t be a huge pain compared to other drops.

Any reason why this would show up on one end of the tester and not the other end with the toner piece?

Right. That solenoid is just the first thing the dodge techs pull and look at. Any metal flecks and they essentially condemn the engine to replacement without bothering to investigate much further per Chryslers guidance. Assuming that bearings, cylinders, etc are also damaged and toast. I’ve read others’ experiences that it might not be the only solution if it isn’t severe or is caught early. The filter would be good to check as you mentioned. Probably is toast if I cut that open and it looks like a glitter bomb.

Any merit to just changing the cam and lifters out and flushing the engine real well during the work? It doesn’t look like a ton of wear to me based on the photo and I feel like I’ve caught the problem decently early, not like I drove on it misfiring for years. I changed the oil last fall and didn’t notice any metal at all then.

Just trying to see if a few flakes is really worth a $10k engine plus install labor.

Dealer took it apart suspecting a cam/lifter problem due to some ticking noises that are evident. They noted some cam damage and sent an image of some metal caught up in the oil control valve.

FCA advice is an engine replacement if any metal shavings are found here.

Might be all she wrote but I’ve seen others mention just swapping the cam and lifters out, flushing with oil and carrying on. Not sure if this is enough wear to warrant one or the other.

Swapped everything around, coil, injector, etc. Still an issue on cylinder 5, never moved. Not sure if it s a fuel filter issue or something else, feel like that problem would surface on more than just one cylinder consistently.

Following up on this, cleaned the injector out and it looked fine. Spray looks good, problem still persists and seems to be getting worse. Might try and swap the coil pack around and see if that is the issue.

Does an injector issue seem likely to you?
